Very commendable honest self-reflection here. Love this type of video. I think credit where it's due -- Retrograde Radio is a genuinely great title. It has a beautiful ring, it's intriguing and evocative while being ambiguous enough to mean a lot of things. Hopefully you'll find a better work to go with it, would be a shame to waste!

Thanks Kieren, I’m really happy to have found your channel as your videos have given me lots of really helpful advice and information. I really appreciate them and I also really like how you produce them, the lighting is perfect as it creates a warm intimacy that makes it feel you are talking to each person individually. I shared your channel with an American lady I met in a Zoom workshop on free writing that I did the other day. I’m in Australia. I hope you achieve your goal of doing this full-time. My goal is just to write and get better at it. I’m not considering even trying to get the novel I’m writing now, my first one, published. After attending numerous writers workshops it became obvious to me that so many people ‘s hopes and dreams of getting published, or even just having their story read by an agent were shattered by the process and by the gatekeepers in the traditional publishing industry. It was interesting to hear you are not going down this path and I was hoping you might share why not and what you are intending on doing with your writing? Self publishing or … ? Thanks again for your channel, I listen to one video every night. Chris

I've started multiple stories in my head but never put down a single one, i try and try but it's like the moment i start i immediately feel overwhelmed by fear of not being able to convey the world or scene as i imagine it...

I love that McCarthy wrote in Spanish. There’s a tiny Mexican restaurant in Santa Fe that only does takeout and the owner is the only cashier. She knows but doesn’t speak English on purpose, forcing you to use your Spanish. Maybe it took you out of the story but taking you out of your comfort zone seems to be his intention

He's amazing. It's not easy. I don't know if it's talent as much as it's perseverance and taking the journey. The mind is more powerful than you think. I'm 67 and sitting down to write those old scripts of mine I put in a drawer long ago. It was lack of patience, perseverance and ideas. Or so I thought.

I have been using your advice to edit my first book. I know you should not write a novel first, but my muse disagrees. I heard a quote, "A good book will write itself." This book and its characters have led me through my changes. I have cried twice. I am just finishing the first 20,000 words.

Thank you for the positivity. When I was looking for writing advice, many authors gave all the reasons not to write. I like that you present a concept, give examples, and explain your thoughts. No judgment.

I really needed this. I've been thinking about a story for YEARS! I want to sit down and write it. It's about time.... UPDATE: I just spent 2 full hours, writing a total of 3 pages. That's far better than what I've been doing with zero. And I can always edit and/or rewrite. But for now I'm happy to have just started ❤

Guess I did something Like you said in your Video in my novel. My character is a german soilder who comes back to germany into a foreign town after WW 1 ends. Now he is walking over the town hall square, where he and his comrades arrived the day before: The town hall square looks very different from yesterday. There were only people and flags. Now I notice everything: The blue sky is hung with clouds, not tethered balloons or airplanes. Half-timbered houses stand in an orderly row. Flags fly from their gables and roofs. The cobblestones on the ground are clean and bicycles lean against the walls of the houses. A group of young boys play by the fountain and people walk past me. They are talking, laughing or hurrying. It is an idyllic, peaceful town. An intact town, there is still such a thing, not just shot-up frontline villages.

I've just discovered your channel and I am really enjoying your videos. Thank you so much for all the valuable advice you have been sharing. I am going to be 50 next year and I always wanted to write stories, so there is no time better than now! Have you ever considered creating a discord channel to create a community around writers? I also use VR and there is this VR software called VRChat where people can meet like in real life and talk. It would be great to hang out with you and others to talk about this passion of ours that is writing :) Greetings :)

Thank you for this videos. I didn't go to university for writing. And I did doubt my self too. But I know I have it on me since my first writing I was 8 years old. I been learning process from reading, search, video's like yours. I'm good at story telling but still learning on script writing. My story coming from my own experience. My life story is my teachers. Writing is my savior and my companion during dark times of my life. I have written so far 8 story base on true events with fiction.
