Good info! One thing tho, please do not record to your camera’s audio and use it as a main source😅that is a big no no in production. There’s many inexpensive ways to record audio today that would make ur projects pop. I’m a one man band often and can’t mix all the time so I needed reliable audio to have when I shoot. Camera audio is the weakest form of audio u can use. And is mainly just used for syncing or the occasional background ambience for certain things

Everything is cliche at this point. There are about a handful of shots a decade that are original. Just storyboard whatever cliche that comes to mind and note that you want to change it later. Then onsite find a way to use the uniqueness of the environment to make it a better shot.

Well stated, Kent. I like that you used scenes from "Boogie Nights" about the changes in the porno industry to illustrate your points. I agree with your conclusion. It's always been up to "copyright" holders to defend their work. Same with owners of patents.

the "it was a dream the whole time" can work if the plot its focused on the development of the character, maybe beating a trauma. the events didn't happened, but they did for the main character,he changed as a person

fun fact: Had a good laugh regarding the pineapple, genuinly thought it was a joke as Pineapple in french is Ananas (the ending of the word sounding like the accronym NAS)... given the explanations it's a pun not intended but still working...

Hi Kent! The movie had me riveted. Yes, it could use some trimming, but the story and most of the acting carried me through. Special kudos, of course, to Chris and Kevin. Wow. They're really friends! What a nice touch of reality. It probably explains one of the moments I really liked, when Ray slaps Jesse's palm and Jesse doesn't know how to react. Don't know if you're still reading comments, but I had a few on the film's actual YT page. One shot that impressed me was that vertical crane (in video we'd call it a "pedestal") going up from the ground floor into the attic of the house. It was clean and smooth with no jarring breaks between the resets. I also liked the "Steadicam" shot following the little girl with those cute tap shoes up the stairs, knowing what she was going to find in the attic. Good move not showing her reaction. I could go on. As an author of two novels and many short stories, I have explored writing a screenplay, but probably will leave that to someone else if my books are picked up. I wish you, your crew, cast, and family all the best. Daniel PS "Standard" in your name made me think of the porn photographer at the heart of the book/movie "True Confessions."

In 2024: Well done!! I hope everyone involved has gone on to better things. The only times the budget showed was when the camera shook when the actors thumped the floor. Your crew and actors definitely earned more than their money's worth. Special kudos to the writer/director/editor. Some trimming could help the slow parts but that's not a major criticism. The acting ranged from OK to 100% believable (Chris & Kevin). I think my favorite scene was when Jesse and Jack try to play the video game. Two unclear parts: When the shower starts up near the end... I'm wondering who was in there. I didn't imagine Jack showering at his age, and we left him playing the video game. Everyone else, one by one, was accounted for. Also, why are there only two kids fishing at the end? There were three in that car, and the one I thought Jesse killed was one of the fishers... so? I'm gonna see if you've done any more films, even shorts on here. I'm an author, so film is an extension of my world and I love "meaty" projects. Don't know if you'll see this having done this project so long ago. Hope so. All the best!

We open with the alarm clock ringing, character getting out of bed, followed by a 2 minute breakfast montage. With plenty of close ups of coffee cup and toaster and then a fucking dinosaur wearing baggy pants and a gold chain carrying a chainsaw who who...who speaks French Creole and Japanese simutaneously crash into the MC house in a damn Hummer blasting DMX recruits said MC to fight against Cthulu and his gang of tentacle Martians!

Don't bother purchasing Small RIG products. They don;t have after sales support, parts to sell, etc. If you misplace something , your whole kit is garbage. I ordered the part from their "customer service", they never shipped it, I inquired about my order, just to receive an email saying that they forgot about my order, ran out of stock and would be "refunding my 360 dollars". Now I have a 950 dollars unusable gear.

I took a film class once and our teacher banned us from making any short involving a character that wakes up to their alarm clock. However, it became very apparent that one guy had not paid attention at all when his very first film assignment started with exactly that.

In regards to the briefcase. I knew a few stock brokers in the 90's who flipped weed on the side. They would show up with a briefcase filled with a couple p's. If the film is taking place in the 90's or early 2000s, the briefcase may hold up.
