    Canon isn’t going anywhere and they are still technically the big boy on the block. If the autofocus is what has been shown, it could be a game changer for sports and fast action shooters. For Canon to put that eye tracker in the R5II at its price is nice. Canon has to get this third party lens situation straightened out. It is about time for them to include full size HDMI, but Nikon and especially Sony won’t sit on their hands. Nikon acquisition of RED was pure genius. Sony will do what Sony normally does and one up, the competition. Sony being first in Mirrorless affords you privileges to wait for the competition to release and counter. It is Panasonic that I’m worried about with their current serious financial problems. We are all better off with them competing to drive prices down.

    @@sidvicious3129 Totally agreed, Canon isn’t going anywhere. Very well established and they do produce great products. My point was just that, what the R5 was back in 2020 when it was announced, is not what the R5II is today. Perhaps innovation is slowing down? I personally don’t see big leaps in image quality in many years, the focus has been on video features. This is where I was expecting Canon to compete with Sony, who are literally innovating and making products with features that previously didn’t exist. Was expecting the same from Canon. Panasonic made great technical strides with their current camera lineup, very competitive AF. They are absolutely leading in terms of open gate, really wish to see/get that with Sony (for anamorphic work). Canon makes and made solid cameras in R1 and R5II, but they are not ground breaking. Nikon is pushing the envelope, even Panasonic with economic challenges have also been pushing. Canon seems to me, are playing safety. Nothing wrong with that, was perhaps expecting more. Competition is great for us, but perhaps we are finally reaching some sort of a technological plateau?

    "What's not to love?" Well, the traffic's a nightmare. Phuket is crowded, expensive, dirty, and there are very few Phuket natives left on the island. Everybody is a new arrival, the Nepalis, the Burmese, the Russians, Chinese, and Isaan people. The Chao Ko all sold their land and moved to condos in Bangkok a generation ago, so nobody gives a damn about the place. They throw trash everywhere. Everybody is rude. The food doesn't taste like Thai food, because the chef is usually Burmese and he knows he's cooking for a farang palate. The taxi mafia runs the place so there is no public transportation. Developers ignore laws and codes and even though half of the real estate remains unsold and unoccupied they continue to build more condos and villas. The reefs were killed by tin mining a century ago so there's no good snorkeling or diving. The beautiful hills are scarred by ugly construction. Thailand is a beautiful country full of wonderful people, but there's nothing left of Thailand on Phuket. It's a tragedy what they've done to that place. It was Paradise thirty years ago, and forty, and fifty, and sixty... now it's Hell.

    Most certainly some people prefer the skin tone expression from Canon. Sony had been lagging behind in this regard, but right around 2020 and after A7SIII, their colour science improved allot. Probably down to preference what is preferred, easy to match both up with a colour chart. 8K or as you point out 6k is a nice resolution to do in frame panning. But you can do that pretty well with 4k and very few people will notice. But I do enjoy having 8K for important talking heads content, for that exact reason, reframing. It gives you more options having the extra resolution. Who knows, Nikon might just make a cinema specific camera, now that they have acquired RED. I am sure we will see tech spill over both ways improving both companies. Healthy competition is great, we the consumers of these products, get better tools.

    You know that Canon always do this they release the camera just before the Olympics so that they can have all of their photographers ready on the sidelines of events with their Canon hats on their logos and all that splashed over the television and then everyone thinks well if I buy a canon I can be at the Olympics. That is exactly what canon do and don't get me wrong. This is a great great two cameras but I don't shoot sports professionally and unless you shoot sports professionally or wildlife photography you don't need all the features this has. It is way overkill. You'd be better off getting a lesser body and better glass than spending in Australia. Seven or eight $10,000 on a body that is way overkill and that's not a criticism of the camera. It is a great camera. I felt the same with the Z8 and the Z9 complete overkill for the majority of people but people will buy it wanting the latest in and in three months time it's sitting on Facebook marketplace for half the price they paid for it because they either couldn't drive the Ferrari or they didn't know how to use it properly.

    They are very smart about how they approach the @optics@ of the Olympics, very good point! But yes, in terms of value for money, there are some more compelling offerings out there for less. Honestly Sony is way ahead in a lot of areas IMO. #1. Third party lenses. You have more selection and more options over both Canon and Nikon. #2. Innovation. Global shutter. Can't wait for the Sony A1 Mark 2, and Sony A7V. Canon will slowly continue to lose ground and I predict within the next 5 years fall to second place behind Sony in new camera sales. I just wish they'd make their camera bodies like 10% larger to fit my larger hands, so I wouldn't have to keep using SmallRig attachments to make better ergonomics.

    Spoken like a true Sony shill. Canon has beat Sony and especially Nikon in the autofocus department by a country mile and then some. Even with old lenses the autofocus of Canon runs rings around the Z8 and Z9 (I know, my friend is envious about my lowly R7 because his Z9 is so much more inconsistent and slow to lock on that he has to revert to manual bringing the focus into the right ballpark manually only to drift off quickly. The only argument his Z9 had over the R5 was the stacked sensor with fast readout - but the lack of mechanical shutter already had bitten him several times.

  • @dailyvlog_thailand

    Can you please elaborate on your AF superiority point "by a country mile and then some"? The general consensus is that Canon used to be best, but with recent equipment generation, from frankly all camera manufacturers, the advantage Canon used to enjoy, is but gone. I'm not trying to be tribal or religious about my equipment. I have clearly stated in the chats of this channel, I would buy a Z8 as the market stands today, if I had no investment in Sony gear. I am just being honest and frank about how I see Canon not engaging/competing like with their original announcement of R5. Nothing personal against people who are invested into Canon. Time will tell the truth, if Canon keeps loosing marketshare or if the R1 and R5 Mark II turn the tide for them.

    I think viewing the R1 and R5ii as signs of Canon giving up in the cinema world is a bit shortsighted. Those cameras aren’t meant for pure video work, they are designed to be hybrids that take the best of both worlds and deliver high quality stills and video in a single body. While I agree that 8K is not very practical, having the option as well as an oversampled 4K image (like in the R5C for example) provides benefits that are absent in the Sony and Nikon bodies. All the brands have their strengths, it’s odd to call out Canon and say they are giving up or falling behind especially so soon after the release of the C400. Only time will tell how good the R5ii and R1 really are, especially since extensive testing on the dynamic range of the cameras needs to happen before anyone comes to conclusions, but I think it’s premature to take any shots at this development without first acknowledging the use case for both cameras.

  • @dailyvlog_thailand
    @dailyvlog_thailand25 күн бұрын

    Odd is my middle name 😉We are in complete agreement when it comes to 4k vs 8k. My A7IV shoots exceptional over sampled 4k footage in FF mode. In fact, it's probably the reason why that camera scores as having one of the highest dynamic range on mirrorless consumer cameras on the market today. When the Canon R5 was announced 4 years ago, the specs, resolution and abilities of that camera, at that time, was huge. Canon showed they were serious about mirrorless. The new R5II does not really add much new to the equation, especially compared to R5C. You mention the newly announced C400, what would you say is the most innovative part of that camera? My point is, I see little innovation looking at what canon is offering, especially compared with Sony. Canon has been loosing marketshare in recent years. People have opinions and thoughts. Only time will tell, if the newly accounted R1 and R5 Mark II were a strong play by Canon, for getting back marketshare.

  • @josiahlee805
    @josiahlee80525 күн бұрын

    @@dailyvlog_thailand I agree that the R5II, especially when compared to the R5C, does not have as many additions as some (including myself) would have liked. However, the overall mastery of the flaws in the R5 and the improved performance in AF, dynamic range (supposedly), overheating, and battery life makes it a very handy and powerful camera in its own right. For hybrid shooters, I would not be surprised if this becomes a highly sought after camera for its stills and video capabilities in a single body. As for the C400, it offers more or less the same features and quality between the FX6 and the Burano while maintaining a very nice price point. Being Canon’s first full frame dedicated cinema camera with a triple base ISO, I believe it’s only a matter of time before this kind of technology makes its way into Canon’s upcoming bodies now that they have proven themselves capable of producing it. With so many features in that compact of a body with that price, it looks like Canon is at least opening the door to more robust and powerful developments in their cinema line. I think Canon has definitely been playing catch up, especially with brands like Sony and Nikon releasing better technology faster, but the C400, R1, and R5II are nothing to sneeze at. There are a lot of people bringing down these cameras and Canon as a whole for being late to the game, but I believe most of this sentiment stems from the fact Sony and Nikon have already accomplished most of these features, not because the things Canon has released are actually bad or useless. Of course, it’s a matter of perspective, as a Canon shooter myself the announcement for these three cameras has me excited for what’s to come in the next couple years with Canon finally stepping up their sensor game, whereas users of other brands view these releases as too little too late relative to the competition. Again, it’s a bit soon to say how this will affect anything, so it will definitely be interesting to see how the market adopts the C400, R1, and R5II in professional and consumer settings.

    @@josiahlee805 I think overall we are in agreement. Perhaps my statements in the video were a bit aggressive. The R1 and R5 Mark II are for sure very powerful tools, the R5 II has seemingly been made a much more stable production tool compared to the original. Competition is good, thats where I come from. I think as consumers, we benefit the most, when there is healthy competition. Sony and Nikon both have very balanced true flag ship cameras, with strong abilities in both photo and video. There are cameras from every manufacturer that does either photos or videos well, compromising either on the photo or video side. But there really isn't a "flagship" available from Canon, that does both photo and video to the same degree that Z9/8 or A1 are able. The R1 competes more with the specialised Sony A9III, sacrificing resolution for the ultimate speed. We are all well and truly spoiled by choice. Whether I am shooting on A7IV or A1, I think most people cannot tell the difference. I think equipment is more about your workflow and how you use your cameras. If Canon serves you better, then that is just perfect for you. The C400 is a solid camera by Canon and I am sure it will be used very successfully on a ton of future productions.

    @@dailyvlog_thailand Yes! I think we’re just coming from different places but ultimately I agree that the tools we have available to us today are all wonderful regardless of brand. Improvements to technology will only become more marginal as time goes on, so this sort of reaction to an announcement like Canon’s isn’t unwarranted. In my opinion, Canon advertising the R1 as a flagship camera is a bit too much, and I agree that it falls short compared to its competitors. It’s more like an R3 Mark II, though I do believe the R5 II does hold more of a claim to this “flagship” title Canon put on the R1. I think all brands at this point have reached a threshold of relativity, and that the saying of “the best camera is the one you have with you” has become more and more true in recent times. Can’t wait to see what Sony, Canon, and Nikon come up with in the years to come and your videos on those as well!

    I'm a Canon shooter. I was really hoping for a knockout set of cameras from them. Mainly because I was hoping to finally go mirrorless and upgrade from my DSLR. Now, I feel I'm likely going to switch over to Nikon for their high quality telephoto glass. I've always been envious of their top end long-range gear, this is probably the excuse I need to switch it up. Everything I own is a decade old at this point, there is no "gear investment" left. So long Canon, it's been fun, but you fell behind and it's time to bid my adieu. Time to save up and drop $8K on a new telephoto and body.

    If I did not have any lens or camera investments at this very moment in time, I think Z8 is one of the best cameras you can get out there. Especially for you, looking at those longer lenses! Hope you get decent prices for your Canon gear, exciting journey ahead for you with a new system 😃

    I would advise you strongly to test out the Nikon before you make the switch. A friend of mine only went Nikon because he was using their DSLR before - and he regrets getting the Z9 and he often reverts to the DSLR because of the poor performance and inconsistency of the autofocus. He is envious how well the autofocus in my lowly R7 performs...
