I’m tackling this project next weekend! Thanks for mapping out the stator swap with so much detail. XR 💯
Hi Brandon I’m always looking for someone to ride with and in different places so if you would be willing to have me tag along let me know! I’m 65 and ride a ktm 300 thanks
Is it even worth rebuilding these? I got the same bike and I hear a bit of ticking when it runs I just don’t see it being worth dumping tons of money into it to rebuild
It's a preference really. The XR's really hold their value. In our area, a bike like this, non running in this economy is around 1k, so for me it was. Plus if you enjoy this stuff as a hobby that's another reason to rebuild versus buying new. The ticking is probably your timing chain needing adjustment.
Is it alot of money to rebuild these motors ? I just don’t see how it would be worth it unless your really attached to the bike
I think the new top end was around $300 using all oem parts and gaskets. They are bullet proof so to me its not about attachment. Whenever I go into these projects I try to remember that im hoping to at least break even when all is said and done. Fun for free basically.
Thanks!
Thank you so much! 🙏
Just got a 1996 XR100 for my boy that's turning 11 next month. Thanks for the great video! Very helpful :D
Exciting! I hope you and him have a great time!
what paint did you use that matched so well
I used duplicolor from orilies. It's silver wheel paint. They carry 2 variations of the silver wheel paint. It will be obvious which one is which .
@@MotoVated207 your the man, thank you 🤙
The problem is, we cannot hear the true sound of the cheap ebay muffler because you are testing beside the two strokes cycle.
None of the bikes are two strokes
I got a xr100r too I’ve absolutely loved the bike runs pretty good seems to have low compression it’s pretty easy to kick over but starts 1st kick all the time what are some signs of when the motor is worn out ?
This one kicks over real easy too . I think it's just the nature of it. Mine was blowing blue smoke and I felt pretty confident it hadnt ever been freshed up so thats what made me decide to pull it apart.
great video. for scanning the road while riding i think of it like the radar in a jet but i add mirror checks as two bars of scanning. 4 front 2 rear. my first check is looking way ahead then closer and closer sweeping back and forth and side to side constantly. then mirror left and right checks and continue. then for leaning into corners 25 and 30 mph subdivisions are perfect practice areas as well if they have good turns and not just grid patterns. use all counter steering for the turns and get used to that then practice avoiding spots in the road on top of this i later run the same line with mostly body position to turn with very minimal counter steering to keep bike more upright yet track the same turn you are just wiring all the things into the brain and sorting them then you use them both for certain times. another great trick for intersections anywhere a car can pull out from never look at the car watch the front wheel only and dont focus on it make it a secondary peripheral track. that way if they do come out you see it in the wheel and you know the direction so it gives you extra knowledge at a faster rate than looking at the dummy behind the wheel not paying attention most likely. i always ride in the prepped and ready position on brakes and clutch in most cases as well. thus shortening the reaction time to stop to gear down or up accelerate as well. never can fade from staying sharp on one the moment you realize you have lost focus you find a safe place to pull over and rezone in luckily i dont have that happen but it does occur and we must always stay vigilant in it
Very true! Great points! 👍
how do you know that the voltage regulator will prevent the lithium ion battery from overcharging and bursting into flames under the seat and in between your legs?
I don't, but if I was worried about getting hurt, I wouldn't be riding a motorcycle either.

Hello! Any idea on how to replace the electric starter on this same bike??
I havent had to do it yet but you can get the factory service manual for it by searching manualslib.com
That was fun! I hope that you do well on your surgery. I would like to see a video on how you do your videos and editing. FYI take it from somebody who knows I have about 10 years on you. Try to do as much exercise before your surgery. Low impact of course. It will help in your recovery. Thanks again for a good video!!
Thanks man I appreciate it! I think that's a great idea and I'm sure a lot of folks wonder how I do it. I will make a point to do a behind the scenes video when I'm laid up. Lord knows I'm going to have some free time on my hands
Let us know if we can help. OK?
I appreciate that David. Thank you!
These bodies don't work or heal as fast anymore once we beat the hell out of it!😵💫 . 🙏 pray your surgery goes well, Brandon!
They sure don't. I'm hoping to be back to normal in 6 months.
Awesome stuff, Brandon!!! Best of luck with your surgery!!! Hope you have less trouble with this one.
I appreciate that man thank you 🙏
Well done ol’ fella. You’re a sucker for punishment 😂😂😂, both my knees are shot, but atm I’m keeping it quiet from the doctors. I’m their spare parts body 😂😂. After the heart op, 3 cancer ops, liver and gallbladder ops, I ain’t got nuttin left. Knowing my luck they lop my legs off. I used to change sprockets & chain on my H1 at least one a month, rear sprocket would wear out quick. My bike only had 2 speeds, flat out & stopped, but that was in the 70s. Had a mate with a Z1 and I could stick with him to about 90 then he’d pull away. He got a heck of a surprise after I swapped sprockets, he was cruising at about 115 mph and I went passed him so far he nearly got off to find out why his bike stopped 🤣🤣🤣. The H1 would top out about 110, no idea what it was capable of, my speedo topped out at 120, but I reckon I was much faster than that, but never did it again, scared the begeezus out of me. Top job on bike, don’t kill yourself! I’ll never speak to you again if ya do! Cheers to ya.
🤣🤣🤣 good times! It's hard to behave when you have a fast bike. I struggle with it.
Totally late to this vid but i have a '24 mt03 looking to lower was wondering how tall is your wife and can she flat foot now? Thank for the video!
You're welcome! She is 5-3 and she can flat foot it now. She loves it
Fellow Mainer here, riding to Laconia can be a gamble like last year it rained the entire time and my wife and I took the car. Boy I was so glad we did
Same for us. A few years ago it rained on the way there and torrential rain on the way back. 3 out of the 4 years we've been caught up in rain. 3 years ago I loaded the bike on our small utility trailer and drove there in our nice air conditioned vehicle and it was the best trip ever. Now if it rains, we just unhook the trailer and go sight seeing. It's so much more enjoyable this way
And.... We just finished, close to midnight but it is done! It will fit my fiancé much better now. Great video
Nice! Congratulations to you both! Well done!
Thanks!😀
Hey will this work on a excf 250 2018?
They make specific kits for each bike
Greate vid and sound. Did you have any name on that Exhaust?
It's called KO exhaust or something along those lines. I really like the sound of it.
Wicked smooth 😅😅😊
What are they hiding that u can't film ? U should have said I'm a 1 st amendment auditor I can film whatever my eyes can see ahole 😊
Thanks 😅
is the baffler in yours or did you leave them out??
They are out
@MotoVated207 that don't sound to bad at all, I fitted mine yesterday I think mine is like a truck haha,
I like the deep tone
Them sxs and 4wheelers are just as loud if not louder with the am exhaust plus they rip up the trail more then a bike ever wood
I agree 100%
It has a lot to due with the atv clubs hating on the bikes also.
It's definitely not a good move in my opinion. They are excluding a whole group of people that can bring more revenue to the clubs. It's the whole Harley vs Sport bike mindset when neither is better than the other. In fact, I would also argue that your more likely to run into a drunk driver on a side by side than you are on a dirtbike.
@@MotoVated207 I would agree drunk and high on drugs I’ve seen it around my area
Spot on brother. Same here 👍
I was told they closed this trail this year?
It's closed from home depot all the way to where the trail crossed over by Gagnon Road and Fairfiled St. That point forward is open, including the new section of rail bed. I was on it last week ;)
@@MotoVated207 I’ve never been on it at all. 45 and just got my first dirt bike, so definitely new to the whole thing. If you’re ever interested I’d love to find people my own age to ride with.
I think that would be great. Are you from around that area?
@@MotoVated207 Not to far, live in Windsor and my wife works in Waterville
Awesome bike man!
Thanks!
That thing sounds crisp! Nice rebuild ..
Thanks 👍it's a ton of fun on the street
Excellent job Brandon! Man I see you do things and it makes me want to do the same ! Although challenging it seems rewarding! I ok got an oddball question for you ? I have the 2000 xr100r I want to do at least minimum new piston rings and likely new piston. I’ve noticed that oem Honda piston and rings are different part #s for 2000 model versus 2001 + I wonder what’s the difference the engines look 100% identical outside
Thank you! I appreciate your kind words. As far as interchangeability between the years, I have no idea. I buy all my parts through Motosport. They have awesome customer service and will guide you in the right direction.
Great video !
Thanks for the visit!
Man used an indicator ! Great job !
Thanks man!
Do you have the link? I Have a Ninja 1000sx 2019
I checked the link in the description, and it appears it's no longer any good. Sorry.
Boy that chain looked tight Hope everything working out great videos
Thanks man. It's a super fun bike. As far as the chain tension, I always set it to whatever the manual says.
What valve tools did you use?
I think it was just just a basic spring compressor kit I got online.
So with your new cylinder/cylinder head gasket, did it have the cam seal chamber rubber rectangular seal? Or do the newer gaskets not need it?
The Athena gasket kit did NOT have that rectangular seal but the stock honda gasket did. It smoked using both styles. I even thought it was the weird bushing at oil pump.area that gets the o-ring and even with OEM gaskets and seals it was still blowing smoke. I'm thinking the domed piston must have kissed one of the stock valves. I can't think of any other reason.
This whole series has been extremely helpful and very well explained! Thank you for the guidance! Now, if you could restore a pw 50.. that would be great!!😂😂
Thank you very much! I just picked up a ttr50 for my grandson. That would be a fun project!
@MotoVated207 that's great news!! My next project for my 10yr old daughter is a 07 ttr50 it needs a lot of help haha but that's what makes it fun! Can't wait to watch some videos on it! My current rides for the family are 2008 polaris ranger 500 (moms) 2004 pw50 (4yr son) 07 ttr50 (daughter) and I'm on a 2002 xr100r. Can't wait for some ttr content
Awesome video! I subscribed
Thank you for watching and subscribing! 👊
Nice job and great video. I've purchased a pretty mint 1996 for my "daughter". Learnt a lot from this video, thanks.
Thank you and congratulations to you both! She is going to love it!
I hope you did come back and cleaned the flywheel. I have cleaned customers flywheels due to no spark or very little spark. cleaned them and engine started right up. This video will help me also with my xr100.
Yah I removed it and cleaned the iside surface and painted the outside surface. It runs like a top. Starts 1st kick every time
Great walkthrough, makes it way more easier. Kudos.
Thank you!
probably still better than the NEW xr150 dual sport they have now thing is a slug
Hahahaha I just bought a 2023 lol
@@MotoVated207 i’m sure it can be great just stock not so much
It's very basic for sure
Do you have to drill a hole in the back fender for the brake light
I did.
I need to bite the bullet and buy one. They are surley nice looking inside of walls before renovating as well as deteriorating tank internals like stationary compressors. I must say immage quality looks great on that scope! 👍
Oh wow that's a great idea! Looking inside tanks! I'm thinking gas tanks too and compressor tanks like you mentioned. The image quality is incredible. You won't be dissapointed.
I see vertical scoring on the cylinder wall at 4:28. I think you have a problem with your ring.. did you check the ring gap?
I saw that too. I think my original clutch might be on its way out. I did check ring gap and it was spot on.
Thanks for the informative vid, Brandon!
My pleasure!
My son bought me one of those for Christmas since I'm so hard to buy for. Of all the weird places to use it was up my wood stove pipe. It worked perfectly.
They are pretty handy for sure. I remember when they first came out, I thought they were a gimmick. Not at all. This thing saved me big time and the picture quality is amazing.
