So is there any modern beer that resembles the dark marzen beer?
@BevGeek24 күн бұрын
Dunkel beers come pretty close. They're not very common in the US, but all the breweries in Munich make one. A few Midwestern brewers also make them (the one from KC Bier is pretty good).

I think about crazy stuff, I was wondering if I had one of those Table Top Stills, the signs say yes. I could use Liquid smoke & flavor additives that would be less labor intensive. And it would rival some of the industries best. I would use the first run there bye decreasing the cost. Also it would be less Labor intensive further more reducing the cost. Give it back to the Unions like they gave it to me . I.e. Quit my Job before you would recognize my bid? How does that work, because I wasn't happy sitting on my ass or was it was because I didn't walk backwards to get my paycheck ??? 🤔

I have been on the tour through the Pilsner Urquell brewery in Plzen. Amazing. What was also amazing is the FACT that it is IMPOSSIBLE to buy a bad beer in the Czech Republic. I can recommend a visit to the country. Great beer, great food (it is a bad country to be a pig or a chicken). We stayed in a little hotel off the square in the Old Plzen view. It had been a convent (years ago). Ah, memories.

All of the Bordeaux family of grape varieties have an impact compound called methoxy-pyrazine which gives the wines a herbal/green bell pepper/grassy/jalapeno note when the grapes are harvested early or grown in cool places. The character will ripen out in warm places like Napa which is possibly why you hadn’t experienced the herbal character of Merlot often.
@BevGeek2 ай бұрын
That could be why that Chilean Merlot in the video had green pepper notes. They could have also blended a little Cab into it. 🫑

The building I live in here in LA, there’s a lady whose job/profession is wine; I don’t really know what it is that she does. I do know that she travels all over the world because of, and wineries continually send her their wine. Anyway, I asked her about that scene and she got visibly upset and mentioned how, because of, the sale of merlot dropped. She also stated that the only thing that would make sense with that scene is if it (merlot) had something to do with him and his ex-wife. Another fun story: The scene when Jack comes back to the motel naked… When I - twenty plus years ago - was in the Marine Corps we were in Denmark (island that belonged to) doing this multi country (US, UK, Russia, Germany, etc.) exercise thing when, after a day of liberty (day off), that night a Marine came running into the barracks naked with his feet and ankles covered in animal shit; I’m assuming pig because everything (food) there was made from pig. What happened was he was porking (pun intended) someone’s wife when the husband came home. Running from the husband, leaving his civilian clothes there, to get back to the barracks - in the middle of the night - he had to run through a field that was covered in animal feces. We forced his stinky self outside to hose his feet off.

Sadly the Eurisko Beer Company, featured in this video, closed its doors a week ago. This has been a very tough time for small brewers. I hope the owners of Eurisko land on their feet, and if you have a local brewery that you enjoy, make sure support them as much as you can. 😥🍺

As a Brit I could not agree with Pils being the most important beer just the highest selling. You already mentioned how much bland Lager there is out there. Lager is now the best selling beer style in the UK but yet again it is dominated by mass produced bland beer. The revolution in brewing in modern times has not been in Lager but in modern Ale styles I would say led initially by American Pale Ale.
