  It's so good to see you back. I've been following you since the beginning. Third grade is quite a change but I found after my switch from kindergarten that I really enjoyed the increase of subject content.

  Teaching in a high stakes testing grade vs a non-state testing grade definitely has a different level of pressure. I have taught Kdg - 5th grade in my 26 years of teaching and 16 or those 26 yrs have been in 4th grade, I am now teaching 2nd and I am so happy to NOT be in a high stakes testing grade. 🙂Good luck, I have a feeling that you will do well, but you will definitely feel the urgency that only those that teach a high stakes testing grade feel. 🙂 Advice - KNOW your test and tested standards and the DOK level in which kiddos need to know those standards very well so that you can incorporate them into your units of instruction/curriculum throughout the year.

  Your classroom is looking great! Would love for you to explain your Kelley Bucks- how do the kids earn them and what are the prizes, do you buy them yourself or have parents donate? Also, what model printer did you get. Do you like it so far? I am looking to upgrade my HP for work too 😊

  I can discuss Kelley Bucks in a later video. As far as the printer, I got the HP Officejet Pro 9125e. I've only had it a couple of days, but I love the quick print speed (color and b/w). I think the print color is a tad duller than my previous printer, but it's not too noticeable.

  You probably already know this, but if you have apply hot glue to the cylinder block walls the posters will stop falling. And when you peel them off no paint should come off the walls.

  I also heard if you put painters tape and then apply the hot glue gun it sticks better but i have not tried this method.

  I have found that if I print directly to the printer and insert my color paper, the dark fonts are not as dark. Whereas printing it on white paper, and then running it through… That definitely makes it a lot darker. Not sure if that makes sense…😂 but it could save you a lot of colored ink in the future!

  Ahh!! Now I know for next time. Although, I think now that I've printed them in color, they look much better than they would have if I printed on color paper. Also, HP Instant Ink gives me unlimited color ink. Just have to wait a little bit to get refills lol

  Luckily, the teacher before me left a ton of chapter books in the room. A few 3rd and 4th grade teachers I taught summer school with donated some. I also got an offer from one of my college professors to donate books to my classroom!

  I don't have it on TPT due to some info pertaining to my school specifically. Some of the headings on the document are: 10 Ways to Help Your Child Succeed, You are Important, Have your Child Read, Encourage Responsibility, Monitor Homework, and State testing Info. Maybe I can share those in the next video.

  They will go in their pencil pouch. Their pouches have two pockets. The big pocket will hold their supplies, and the smaller, front pocket will hold their Kelley Bucks.

  Noooooooooo, don’t remove the rainbow. I love the rainbow colors around the blackboard. I think it will help the kids pay more attention to whatever is on them depending on what you’re using them for.

  What did you use to hang your affix wall on cinder block (hot glue, Mauvelous tape, sticky tack, etc)? I'm trying to brainstorm how to hang mine

  I have coworkers that use alien tape or mavalus tape, I honestly find that regular blue painter’s tape works well. I use it to hang all my posters. Just put a rolled piece in each corner then push it really hard.

  @@devontaekelley2729 I love that for your classroom. I saw that you have a system for things they will use at their table since they don’t have desks. I hate desks so I turn them around so they can’t use them. I put a rectangle shallow paper tray to hold their unfinished work folders and one for their pencil bags when not in use. It keeps them from playing with things. I teach 5th grade. They have cubbies for books and book bags. I like your classroom and you are a professional educator and it shows when you talk about your curriculum and how students learn. This is going on my 27th year as a professional educator and I’m thinking of vlogging this year. It’s an important year for education across the board.

  I wish we were going in this early. They are replacing HVAC systems and I have to move rooms as well since I’m entering a new position. But I have 7 days of training before the first day on 8/8. I don’t know HOW it will all get done! Have a great year, Mr. Kelley!

  What if you switch the discussion stems and the place value… you’d have space for the title AND… you could make it interactive with your Velcro dots and some numbers!!!! 🤷🏻‍♀️ That’s how I use my walls… I don’t “decorate” per se… I’m on year 18 and have used every inch I can for instruction.

I’m going into my 18th year of teaching Grade 7 in BC, Canada and we don’t start back until after Labour Day so your videos are getting me excited to think about setting up and getting into the year ahead.   I have that same rug but It’s so dirty that I want to throw it out the windo window. The janitors don’t clean the carpets. I put in a request to get a new one.

  I love this rug! Our classrooms used to be all carpet and our custodians would clean all carpets, but 2 years ago, they replaced it with tile. I got a good deal on a carpet cleaning vacuum, and my teammates and I all cleaned our carpets last year.
