I believe that since COVID, today, learning in the classroom today has made a significant change. One being the social and emotional piece is a major concern in our classrooms today. these stands for all grade levels from K right through to the high school level.
Thanks
Thank you for sharing! So happy I found you!

This has been very helpful as my role is new and there is so little clarity on the role.
So glad to hear it! Make sure you check out all of our resources for coaches - we have lots on our website coachbetter.tv!
Hey! Found you all my first year as a coach, now I'm an interventionist. Do you think i can still learn here? I'm in a virtual public school and and striving to make a huge impact (i specialize in math anxiety)
Absolutely! You can find all our courses for coaches on our website at coachbetter.tv/learn
coaching shouldn't be limited to observing and giving feed back, it is also something that has to do with checking the quality of lesson planing, the quality of collaboration that the teacher has with their colleagues, the quality of their engagement in the initiatives that the school implements....limiting it to classroom visits would have very limited positive results and would not serve the purpose of coaching in general.
Hmmm.. what you're describing sound more like evaluation than coaching. The kind of coaching we're talking about (instructional coaching in K12 schools) is non-evaluative and based on teacher goals. This is an assets-based model, rather than deficit-based. Coaches in this context are not evaluating teachers (or the quality of their work). Instead they are guided by teacher goals and providing partnership in working towards achieving their goals. This happens best when coaches are working in classrooms with teachers, but also includes planning and reflection conversations.
No this has nothing to do with evaluating. it has to do with supporting teachers all the way from planing to delivery and then review . evaluation is something completely different. @@EduroLearning
This sounds good. But in my opinion coaching should be part of a well structured ecosystem, a transparent ecosystem. There should be platforms that facilitate collaboration sharing experiences and these should be embedded within the system and favor the emergence of a transparent culture. So, coaching and coaches shouldn't be some sort of special force that intervenes in certain cases, but they should be part of proactive plan where the resources both human and material to make sure that the majority of your teachers are functioning according to the required standards.
Yes, coaching should be transparent and the purpose, vision and terms used should be shared for all stakeholders. However, in this context, coaching is about supporting teacher growth, not accountability towards standards. Holding teachers accountable to standards is part of the evaluation / appraisal process. Coaching should be separate from appraisal, otherwise it is not coaching, it's compliance. Ultimately, for coaching to be successful it really needs to be separate from evaluation or appraisal.
I didn't say that they should be held accountable, what I said is that support shouldn't be about the delivery part only, it should planing, collaborating. there is no mention of accountability in what I said. @@EduroLearning
what I meant here is that coaching should be part of the whole, not just another pieces functioning on its own island. I didn't have the feeling, when watching the video, that in that school there is a holistic approach to the matter. It sounded a bit random and arbitrary. @@EduroLearning
Great Rola and Nabila. I found it Informative and rich episode.
So glad you enjoyed it!
How can coaches balance the needs of individual teachers with the goals and expectations of larger school or district? How do you keep track of individual teachers needs and progress?
This is part of tracking your coaching conversations. As a coach, you need to be conscious of (and have documentation for) the conversations that you have, so you can be intentional and strategic in ensuring that you meet the needs of everyone in your coaching portfolio.
Awesome video!
thank you!
Thank you for the honest and straight forward input!
So glad the videos are helpful!
Well done Kim
Thank you!
amazing and so lucidly explained
Thank you!
This video should be renamed "6 strategies invented by deluded, self serving managers that think they are being clever and that "resistant" teachers will swallow any old rubbish."

This has Cary Hart in it - It must be amazing!
Of course!
I just found your videos, but have not had a chance to watch them. I have a question that you might be able to help with. I am a coach, but I work with my teachers on classroom management and behavior modification in the classroom. I recognize that your focus is instructional coaches, but do you know anyone who helps with education coaches that do not focus on academics?
I don't know anyone who specifically works in that area, but it's possible that we can support you. What are do you need help with? We do lots of private mentoring work with educators in all fields!
@@EduroLearning My focus, though I'm just getting started down this line of research, is the coaching conversation. My time with my teachers is limited and I would like to get everything I can out of our conversations. After reading a few articles, I'm realizing that I have a tendency to push too hard on my own agenda instead of allowing them, their self-acknowledged needs and interests to be the focus.

Patrick has always impressed me with his commitment to his students and doing whatever he can to provide them with awesome experiences. A true rock star in the classroom and with a guitar 😉.
He sure is!
This is so helpful! Thank you so much! I am interviewing for my first Instructional Coach position in a couple weeks. I have been watching almost all of your videos to try and learn more about best practice! I would love to hear any other advice you have!
My best advice is to join The Coach! Find out more here: edurolearning.com/coach/
HI
I loved listening to these ladies share. I can see that there is a genuine partnership here! It’s so interesting that as we support others we are often lacking the support we also need as coaches. I know working with my own coach, @mscofino, has helped me grow leaps and bounds as a coach!
Absolutely! Thank you Sasha!
Would have been useful to give examples of coaching questions and paraphrasing
We've got another video on that topic already, and if you want deeper learning, join us for the next cohort of The Coach! edurolearning.com/coach
Thanks for sharing. Very informative! My motto has become "Purpose is Everything." Best way to start any task I think. How could one become a curriculum designer/coach without a degree in the field? I'm hoping to allow research and experience guide the way, but $20k+ of debt seems to be the mode of operation around here.
Most international schools require a degree + teaching certification. Beyond that, we offer a Certificate program in coaching: edurolearning.com/coach
