After 26 years of complete loyalty and spreading the doctrine, I left the United Pentecostal Church fellowship in June 2017. These are some of my stories and testimonies of my experiences whilst exiting and beyond.
UPCI is very cultish! Not a cult but “ish.” There are other apostolic churches that are not UPC so is UPC saying they are not right? Also the issues of pants 4 women. When the scripture in Deuteronomy says “ a woman should wear pants pertaining to a man.” Men wore the same apparel as women. IG a woman wears a man’s suit and tie made for a man that’s quite different. There’s no where in scripture where this is mentioned again. Clothing should be modest, not showing a woman’s anatomy or her curvatures. This is ridiculous. Bible says we should not allow jewelry and apparel be the issue that as idols. I’m attending a upc now. And I’ll tell you, as much as baptism in holy spirit is taught, some are mean as snakes and don’t bear fruit as Jesus talks about. Dr Bernard does not have the entire truth. You better seek God in fasting and prayer and ask Him where you should be in church. No perfect church! Not till Jesus Christ comes back. So before we start looking and judging others, we need to read scripture

Gosh. I am so glad that I am not emotionally needy. Being emotionally needy sounds exhausting. I have never had a negative experience at any church I have been to. Perhaps my emotional expectations are far less than those who talk about cliques and 'abuse'. It sounds like nobody can be 'spiritually abused' against their will.

Been looking for God did the UPCI, Church of God and AoG. The Church of God and AoG treated me very good but I had trouble fitting inside the Church of God. I once heard someone say you got to find "your tribe" or those you can sync with and I am looking for it.

I stopped going the Apostolic Church but then I recently started going again because the other churches don't have Sunday evening services, and I normally work Sunday mornings. These other places could have church Sunday evenings if they wanted to. I also agree with the teaching about being baptized in The Name of Jesus, for the remission of sin. More convinced about the water baptism after reading Acts 22:16 when The Apostle Paul was baptized, calling on the name of the Lord ,washing away his sins. (If he was saved before baptism, why weren't his sin already washed away?

The Apostle Paul teaches about sanctification, and not letting sin reign in your mortal bodies,and abstaining from things in the world that are not beneficial to our spirit. We don't need a degree in theology to understand the difference between walking after the spirit and walking after the flesh.. If the preacher teaching about this makes it a cult, then practically every Christian Church could be called a cult. If you are walking after the Spirit and not after the flesh, you are going to stand outband look different in a secular society. A Peculiar people.

What makes it a cult? How do they, or how can they abuse someone? I have been to non denominational churches that are far more domineering than any Apostolic Church that I ever attended. There is another very popular Pentecostal denomination where I first hand experienced spiritual manipulation. I thought it might just have been me but, within a couple weeks I met people who left and said the same thing. Some other churches practice spiritual manipulation in regard to making offerings. By comparison, every Apostolic church that I have been to teaches offerings are of your own free will. I mean, if you think their doctrines are in error that's one thing but, that doesn't make it a cult any more than any more so than any secular organization.

I was UPC about 10 years. God actually pushed me out, like an eagle pushes her fledgling out to teach it fly. ●I DON'T recommend people to leave UPC!!● THAT IS DEAD WRONG! Not saying this sister tells folk to though. Many people are MEANT to be in UPC - maybe most. I only know that as a minister of God, He needed me out of there to fulfill my calling. One of the most important things i learned is to preach the Gospel! To preach about Jesus death, his grave his Resurrection. When people learn that God actually knew them before they were born, from the foundation of the world) and knew everything about them, and literally took their sins on the Cross and died for them , they are deeply moved. I've got lots more saved since i left the organization many years ago, because i no longer preach Acts 2:38 to get them saved,i preach the real Gospel! No one falls in love with Jesus when they only hear Acts 2:38! Ive had no troubke getting people baptised in Jesus Name for remission of sins and receiving the Holy Ghost, once they respond in repentance at the preaching of the Gospel. I only preach the Cross and Resurrection and after they make a geuine prayer of repentance toward God , only then do i show them.a couple of water baptism verses, then baptise them, they always speak in tongues when they come out of the water and begin to worship Him. The power of God is in the preaching of the actual Gospel. Im oldish now and not in real good health, but i look forward to doing more. I think the UPC is a great church and i recommend it! Just not for me, that's all. 😊

Those people are turning a lot of God‘s children away from the church with their doctrine. I know a guy that went to one of those churches seeking Christ and was told that he had to sit on the back pew because he had long hair and a beard needless to say he left, and never went back.

What made my husband and I finally leave our local UPC was a message preached by the pastor. I rewatched the live stream to make sure I accurately got his words down. But this is what he said, “You will not grow if you are not being accountable to the man of God in your life You will never be more spiritual than your pastor, and you will never be smarter than your pastor Dont listen to anyone that teaches anything different than what is preached on this pulpit.” We were cut off from the church and its members because we disagreed with this message and we could not submit ourselves to this pastor or his teaching. I know not all pentecostal churches are like this and sermons like this can unfortunately be preached from any pulpit.

People have testimonies all over the www( Muslims, Hindus, Atheist, Jail residents, Hospital patients) who relate how Jesus came to them and revealed Himself to them. He can go anywhere and do anything He wants. He said “If believe in ME and confess your sins, you shall be saved.” This lady found Jesus in a way her church would not allow her to. The UPC is not the only denomination with doctrines, creeds, rules, and regulations. Look at the Baptist and Catholics. They have teachings, some totally opposite. I’ve attended all the churches over my 58 years, and knew of sexual abusers, adulterers, drunks, etc in ALL of them-plus the people who are truly Godly and authentic. Our own each personal job is to put our faith into action( in love) and let it transform us into His image. Holiness means “ living a life set apart for the purposes of God.” You can do that, if you have to, in an orange suit, hospital gown, a dress, dress slacks, or a grass shirt in a hut in a jungle somewhere. Just find Him, and answer His call.

Grace covers when we mess up and stumble and sin, not grace to “get to sin when we want” we shouldn’t want sin. Moses told the people take off the jewelry so you can feel God’s spirit. In acts there are believers that had to get re-baptized.

The next thing was I was starting to become really good in basketball and football, the superintendent from UPCI came to try and talk my dad out of it but when they begin say things I stood up I said and ask them tell me what are you going to replace this with, they could not answer I told them I was 15 you guys mind are twisted, then they my dads house and went to my uncle house and told him not to communicate or there church no more because we are all rebellious people, even when my uncle backslid sitting there smoking his dope still condemning dad I finally told him uncle better shut your mouth or I’ll have make you 😂

The best decision I ever made was when I paid a girl to take me to the apostolic campgrounds I received the HOLYGHOST on a night I was suicidal in 2011 an experience I cannot explain away! 🎉 and I never dealt with suicide again I was baptized in his name and never left my children have been raised this way and over 12 years they have seen God heal me of cancer twice! so sorry you feel the way you do. i go to a UPCI church for God's truth. I'm not in a niche and i do not go to please other people. I go because I love God and I go for Him alone. Have I been church hurt yes many times as humans are humans and have free will. If we were perfect we would not need Jesus. as Jesus told Peter when asked how many times must I forgive my brother? Jesus said 70 times 7. for if we cannot forgive our brothers and sisters (not just church family) then how can God forgive us. If we cannot love like Jesus , then we are hurting ourselves.

I am Apostolic but came out of the Grace only non denominational church that waters down the Gospel. Before coming to an Apostolic I had those you don't have to go to church to be saved mentalities, etc. Nothing showed that I was a believer to the lost except the joy I had and that I often read my Bible in Public to open doors in Highschool. God brought me to a Apostolic church. Eventually I made it to a UPCI. I agree the standards hold us back but as someone that grew up in the complacency of the traditional church, I see the power in the standards that set us apart. The don't stop me from the love. I am rembracig the dress because even the denominal churches used to have standards and we are just a stiff necked people. I will never totally agree with UPCI on all points but we are a church standing on scripture while many affirm sin in their church, not repentance from them. That is sad. I am not saying you have gone this far but it is a thought. Maybe your leaders thought them as obligations of sanctification and not simply a different way to carry yourself as one that is set apart.

You have a heart problem. You need to study your Bible and pray. Without holiness no man shall see God. You need to ask God what he expects of you and do it even if you don't think it's necessary. When God shows you to get rid of things in your life and you disobey God, you make a choice to sin. Ask God to give you understanding , wisdom and knowledge of His Word, because when you stand before Him he will judge you by that same book. Be careful not to speak ill will toward anyone or any church. You will give account to God for every word and deed you commit against another no matter who they are.

Jesus said 70 times 7. for if we cannot forgive our brothers and sisters (not just church family) then how can God forgive us. If we cannot love like Jesus , then we are hurting ourselves.

I sought God with all of my heart soul and mind from the time I was little boy well into my adult years and discovered that Yahweh is not God. I have never been more at peace and able to love people.

I am Apostolic but came out of the Grace only non denominational church that waters down the Gospel. Before coming to an Apostolic I had those you don't have to go to church to be saved mentalities, etc. Nothing showed that I was a believer to the lost except the joy I had and that I often read my Bible in Public to open doors in Highschool. God brought me to a Apostolic church. Eventually I made it to a UPCI. I agree the standards hold us back but as someone that grew up in the complacency of the traditional church, I see the power in the standards that set us apart. The don't stop me from the love. I am rembracig the dress because even the denominal churches used to have standards and we are just a stiff necked people. I will never totally agree with UPCI on all points but we are a church standing on scripture while many affirm sin in their church, not repentance from them. That is sad. I am not saying you have gone this far but it is a thought. Maybe your leaders thought them as obligations of sanctification and not simply a different way to carry yourself as one that is set apart.

You have a heart problem. You need to study your Bible and pray. Without holiness no man shall see God. You need to ask God what he expects of you and do it even if you don't think it's necessary. When God shows you to get rid of things in your life and you disobey God, you make a choice to sin. Ask God to give you understanding , wisdom and knowledge of His Word, because when you stand before Him he will judge you by that same book. Be careful not to speak ill will toward anyone or any church. You will give account to God for every word and deed you commit against another no matter who they are.
