What on gods earth is a "double lickey banker"... ?
@JohnSmith-pd1fz5 жыл бұрын
++FalconXE302++ Well the Lickey is the bank or gradient, a long hill if you like. Sometimes more than one locomotive is required to get the train, that is the carriages or load, to the top of the hill so a second specialised locomotive, the Banker, is kept ready in the area for just such occasions. It assists the hauling locomotive up the hill by pushing the rear of the train. Sometimes one Banker is not enough so two are used, a Double, one pushing the other and together pushing the train itself. Arrangements of points and additional tracks enabled the Bankers to return to the bottom of the hill without blocking the main line, as soon as their work was done.
