Tamara's Joy // Sewing Channel

Hello! I am Tamara and I love all things Fabric, Quilts, and Sewing.

I created this channel to share fun and simple sewing projects to help you fall in love with sewing too. If that is what you are looking for I highly recommend subscribing to my channel!

As a wife and mother my life is jam packed with all that comes along with family life. But I try to sneak in as much sewing as I can, I am Canadian, a mother of two boys and most of all I am a Christian. That pretty much sums me up!

I hope this channel gives you some guidance as to where to start when learning to sew.

I also want to say that I appreciate your purchases through my links as they bring me a small commission at no cost to you. By doing this it helps me to continue making free sewing tutorials for you.

Thank You & Happy Sewing!

BUSINESS ENQUIRIES? You are more then welcome to email me. I love to work with reputable companies that fit well within my content. I Looking forward to hearing from you!

I love your tips! I use a heavy duty plastic drinking straw to slip over my thread spool holder when using cones of thread. I also mark my sewing scissors with "sewing only" so everyone can be warned not to use my material scissors. lol

You talk (and work) way too fast. Especially with your measurements. Not helpful at all.

If my fabric is a print that is directional, do I need to add any length to my fabric account for an added seam on the bottom?

If you don't have a teflon foot you can put matte scotch tape on regular bottom of foot. Great bag.

I was excited to find a video using purchased bias tape but do you realize your hand is in the way when you show what you do when you get near the end and show how to go off the side at the end of the first corner?

I have one! It turns off after a couple of minutes and you are stuck and you can’t get it on again. My project came to a complete STOP! I think it has a short so company is replacing it when it comes back in stock! Only lasted maybe 4 months. My $10 B & D lasted much longer! Still working

I have been sewing for 60 years. Quilting for 20 years of that. Making my first rag quilt now. I did learn that if you are using up batting leftovers, do not cut batting the same size. Batting should be smaller 1-1/2 inches on each side so that you cannot see batting after washing. I have now prepared over 70 squares now. My squares are 10 inches and I anticipate another 1-2 weeks for this. This is not as easy as it was reported. If I had to advise a newby, I’d say to proceed slowly. Those scissors can ruin it. Careful and methodical is the way forward. I will post my finished quilt. 120 squares and mostly denim, which rags so nicely. Just take a deep breath if you get overwhelmed and walk away for a while. All be be okay.

I am concerned about thread storeage. Keep it from being damaged from light

  • @TamarasJoyDIY

Yes! I fully agree. I keep my thread that I don’t use on a regular basis in my sewing box. I keep the colors I use all the time out but I figure they won’t be hit by much light before I get to them.
