Welcome to my channel. My name is David and I've been a photographer for over 20 years. I used to shoot weddings and portraits professionally but gave it up to work in Emergency Healthcare. A couple of years ago I switched to Fujifilm and this reignited my love of photography and got me into videography. I decided to start this channel as an outlet for my passion. I popped a Russian turret viewfinder on mine (The optics on those are as clear as new glass) to jazz it up, and to use on bright days. All you really need is the 16-50 3.5 V.2 lens to keep the package small, light, but flexible. That lens improves in speed on later bodies, has a center sharpness as good as anything you have, and if you shoot square format, it's now perfect. Save your other lenses, vintage, or Fuji prime for the IBIS bodies. But don't forget, the 16-50 has IBIS. Just be sure to get V.2. Great lens you have. Pick up a skinny wrist strap like the ones used on the pocket digital like the Canon Elph 310. They won't bind your wrist like the thick ones do, they won't break, and the strap will also improve your grip as you will see. I have a skinny even on my X-H1. I'm serious..get one.
I sold my sony a7iv with lens and switched to fuji xt4 in 2024 cos sony is too perfect and heavy for traveling. Mainly the lens are heavy and people use to stare at me at public places.
Film director here. I use the XT-4 for main film pre-production. Why to buy other when this camera does it all ?..
saw your laowa review with your real estate fuji, noted you had sold your laowa for tt artisan, but would love to know, how do you cope with the interrior video shoot. what is the max ISO you use inside the house with your fujifilm XT4 (i know you also sold your xt4) Would really want to find out how is the ISO inside the interior shot, and what is the max ISO number to prevent video too grainy on presentation. any chance to share the info. Thank you
Hi! I'd just like to ask how's your post workflow process like? I just bought the xs20 and recording and editing 6.2k videos just absolutely kills my PC. I was wondering if you had a workaround with this?
Hi, no issues to be honest but I’m running a MacBook Pro with M1 Pro so it’s blazing fast for video.
I'm still using the X-T4 in 2024😅.Did you end up selling the X-T4 and getting the X-S20?
I did. The X-S20 is great and is definitely better in several ways. The X-T4 is better built and has better ergonomics (for me). If you want a proper upgrade though, the XH2s is the way to go.
@@davidthephotographer Yes I hear the XH2s is great but I wonder if it would be a bit too big and heavy 🤔.
friend thanks for the video, have you seen the laowa 9mm T2.9? I'm undecided about real estate both photo and video with an S5II
I did swap my photo version for the cine version. They’re basically the same optically but geared. Sadly I sold it as it ended up not being used. Great for real estate though.
Hello, I liked your video. I have a Laowa 9mm lens for Fuji and I would like to use it on my BMPCC 4K. Maybe you know if there is an adapter for it? or is it impossible?
Not that I’m aware of. Sorry.
For only photos and jpegs what is your choice between X-T2 and 3 ?
I haven’t used the XT2 myself so hard to say but I imagine the difference is fairly minimal. I think cost will be the main decider. I love my XT3 though so I can definitely recommend it.
Hello there, great vídeo! Im currently looking for a new camera, un in between the xs20 and the xt4 (not the xt5 because It lacks fully articulated screen) i Need both video and photo but mainly photo quality overall, both have the same sensor so should I pick the xs20? i ve look every KZread video and ask in shops still can’t decide. Thank you and keep up, you should have more followers because your content quality is undeniable
Depends on what you value most. The XS20 shoots 6.2k and has better auto focus. The XT4 is better built, weather sealed and has dual card slots.
I’ve owned X-T3s in the past and I agree that it’s an excellent performer and an exceptional value. After using an X-T4 for a year or so and a couple of years with an X100V and an X-Pro3 (which I still own) I recently re-purchased a pair of X-T4s for event still photography, because: * quieter shutter * battery life * IBIS (useful even for stills) * all of the film sims included in the X100V and X-Pro3 (I rely on certain JPEG recipes that are supported on all X-Trans IV-based models *except* the X-T3 and the 1st-gen X-T30.) I’m not ready for 40MP, but I do want the option of a battery grip, so, for now, the X-T4 is a better fit for me than the X-T5 (or the X-T3).
Unfortunately the X-s20 doesn't have weather sealing, and only has one card slot.
These are the two biggest issues I have with my XS20.
Beautiful combination. I also have the lens on Fujifilm X-T3.
Great shots🎉
What about autofocus in xt4, especially in tracking the subjects? Lots of people out there say it is good
How is the build quality? How’s yours holding up? I’ve seen some negative feedback about it. Really like XS20 but don’t want it to look like shit after some usage…
Got any updates on your camera experience? Still torn. 4k just doesn't look the same after seeing the open gate footage. Btw what sd card do you use for open gate and what are you using for editing those massive files?
Laowa 9mm is excellent!
I already own one! So I don't have a choice!
The X-S20 not having a dual card slot is a huge miss. Would’ve gotten it immediately if it did. Using X-T4 now though.
Yeah I must admit it’s one of the things I miss about my XT4. Thankfully I kept my XT3. I’d like an XT5s with all the improvements seen in the X-S20 but with the nicer body and dual card slots.
Bro I'm stuck between Fujifilm Fujinon XC 35mm F2 Prime Lens & Fujifilm Fujinon XF 35mm F2 R WR Prime Lens Which one should I buy? Cause the XF is like double the price..but is it worth it?
It is absolutly worth it. XF series has better build quality, weather resistant, and aperture ring. It also belongs to list of fujinon lenses that get maximum benefit from 40mpx resolution camera (XT5, XH2).
get the xc, you'll get the same optics for less than half the price! Also it's lighter and you can survive without an aperture ring;) unless you need the wr, in that case the xf is worth it!
I Have XT 3 Doing Real Estate Photography but i need Wider View Can You help me to pick between Used 10-24 Fuji or Brand New Laowa 9MM F2.
I’ve just sold my Laowa as it hasn’t been used in six months now. I’m looking at replacing with the new TTArtisans 10mm f2.0. Looks like an ideal budget option and the f2.0 will help for those darker properties.
@@davidthephotographer i am worried about image quality from tt artisan I never used. Please share your suggestion about 10mm Ttartisans.
Any problem without the weather sealing? Like dust or splashes of water?
I love this camera
Well it has a neat hidden feature that no one talks about The camera has a dual gain iso when using flog Flog2 I think the second gain at iso 1600 or like the xt4 at iso 2000 And flog2 at iso 3200 Also it can output raw video through HDMI using an external recorder like the Atmos ninja v Meaning it's also capable of outputting 12bit 4.2.2 prores raw or Braw all intra video which can be used on a profesional commercial set and worked with well in post The thing is beast when rigged and well worth the consideration for pro video work given the second gain iso in flog2 Though the missing second card slot and the identical rolling shutter to xt4 leaves something to be desired and also if a few more function buttons on the front wouldn't hurt. The camera is an absolute beast
The audio qoulity in xs10 and xs20 is the same?
This sensor is amazing. Are you using any diffusion filters?
No, this is straight from the camera with no filters. I think I used the 16-55mm f2.8 to film it.
Help! Any advice for this camera handheld and when and how to use the IBIS, boost and DIS settings? I enjoyed shooting video and stills on vacation, but didn’t experiment enough. I could get stable enough static shots, but not pans and walking (even if attempting ninja stepping) was micro jittery. I ended up using my iPhone for walking and it’s gonna be a pain to match the color and feel of those.
Great video and work. Ive had 4 fuji cameras and various lenses and now I'm down to my X-Pro2 and the 35mm 1.4 and the 16mm 2.8. Lately I've been somewhat bored and uninspired by my kit. I've been toying with the idea of selling my existing system and get a Sony A7CII. Thanks to you Ive mitigated this sudden attack of GAS(Gear Acquisition Syndrome). While I may at some point go the Sony full frame route, I will not let go of my Fuji X-Pro2. Change my head and get back out there! I'm primarily a still photographer but would like to explore some video. I just picked up the X-T4 1015.00 USD. I want the IBIS and Better battery life. Recently added the 56mm 1.2 WR. In good for now. Thanks again
the color looks bad sorry to be honest
No worries. All opinions welcome. I was quite pleased with the colour. It was a very very dull overcast day and the footage is straight from camera so I think it looks great given the conditions.
Well, five minutes ago I just won this for Fuji mount for 212 ebay bucks..Good seller record. I have different plans for it. Shooting square format in black and white. Ala The Cranes Are Flying look..
I purchased this lens almost new for £138 on Ebay in January 2024 - think i got very lucky as it was an unwanted christmas present. It is a keeper for landscapes, architecture, and also focuses pretty close to objects.
Awesome footage!
not a single frame of the car that saved Lotus 1996 to 2023
Probably used the Fujifilm Classic Chrome Film Simulation to achieve this look.
Why does the colours look so weird?
Very useful first impressions, thanks. I'm considering this for photography (to replace my x-t20) for two reasons. 1. The improved autofocus for better subject tracking and 2. the bigger grip for better ergonomics with some of the larger lenses. Have you tried it with the 55-200mm or 70-300mm for example?
The X-T4 really frustrate me in term of stabilization for videos but it much better looking than the XS20, and also it is not weather sealed, so not really reliable if you are an adventure traveler. I would have got a X-T5 if it had a flip out screen... so I feel stuck with the X-T4 as I can't make my mind up...
which one did you end up getting?
I am still rocking my x-t4. Fuji sent me the XH2s to test, it was a beast. I’m going to get that one in a few months for sure!
can someone explain non technically what is open gate recording?
I think so… Open gate simply uses the entire sensor rather than a 16:9 crop. So you get more vertical pixels. This can be used for a stylistic choice or it can give more scope to crop in post. Especially good if you intend to make vertical content from your videos.
@@davidthephotographer ok thanks!
This creator will grow. i'll comeback to this video when it hits 100k subs. nice video.
Thank you. I appreciate the kind feedback. I hope you’re right
The flip out screen was / is a no no for many, myself I love the XT4 and for me the screen is idea. The XT5 is under real pressure now there is the 20 and for a decent saving. I plan to purchase another XT 4 when the price comes down ( a lot) but am in no rush as my ancient XT 1 still provide excellent service 😎
What would you say is a fair price that you are looking at?
Hi @tillyercreative . Thank you for this recommendation video. Though I may need some advice. *I'm currently contemplating of selling/trading my XT3 for an XS10 because ever since my X100v arrived with its compact form factor and having that Classic Neg film sim which bakes fuji recipes that emulate classic film developed prints, my XT3 along with my other XF lenses, has gotten lesser use and perhaps it may motivate me if I replace it with the XS10 (more compact + Classic Neg sim feature). What's hesitating me is that even though I've read very minimal issues concerning the XS10 through Forums and reviews, it's not weather sealed and its less robust body (compared with the XT3) may result to durability issues (though it appears it's quite durable based on these references: ( kzread.info/dash/bejne/haeq1tt7hJaZnqQ.htmlsi=mpGGWDwX0Hct_C8e OR kzread.info/dash/bejne/nWh3utWkf9e4oKQ.htmlsi=uxd2pdec_2pRlEKs ). My Xt3 didn't have major issues at all (maybe because I use it gently and only on my day-offs, holidays, special occasions, and travels). But even though it's WR, still you just can't trust Fuji's WR claims over their higher-tier bodies ( kzread.info/dash/bejne/a4tlm9SrhsycnrA.htmlsi=YJOtl_tTtU5tRSrr ) *If I could stretch it a bit, the XT4 could be another option but I have to sell some of my lenses to fund its acquisition (XFs 16/1.4, 35/2.0, 50/2.0) because it's weather-sealed and it has Classic neg but I lose the compact form factor found on the XS10.I was asking you since you were thinking of selling your XT4 for an XS20. So i was thinking if that parallels my intention of selling the XT3 for an XS10. I shoot street, food, travel and family documentaries. I don't shoot video. *Hoping to get your opinionated advice. Thank you.
Do you just select 6.2k in camera menu to get that format ? What does opengate mean
Essentially yes. When you choose resolution and frame-rate, 6.2k is the highest setting. Open gate means it uses the whole sensor rather than a 16:9 crop. The benefits are that you get more space to crop the footage in post.
@@davidthephotographer Thank you so its best to shoot in 6.2k to get the most out of the camera then and the best Video quality. I have XS10 but would like 4k 60 FPS so i can slow my footage down....
What settings were you using? Amazing colors
Thanks. I used Classic Chrome. Also set DR to 400. Tone Curve H+0.5 S-0.5. Colour +1. Sharpness -4. WB Daylight R+2 B-4.
I bought two in the last few months :) I paid less for the two than the xt5 price. Still got the new battery, IBIS, okay autofocus.
Amazing if you can get them that cheap. Still a great camera. Used prices locally are still strong so the jump up to the XS20 isn’t much. Having had my XS20 for a couple of months, I’m definitely happy with the upgrade and I still have an XT3.
great! What settings wb, film simulation?)
Thanks. I used Classic Chrome. Also set DR to 400. Tone Curve H+0.5 S-0.5. Colour +1. Sharpness -4. WB Daylight R+2 B-4.
@@davidthephotographer big thanks!!
The worst thing about this camera is that even though its a content creator /videography camera, the autofocus system follows the very old contrast detection whatever mode, which is quite bad. For photos is good enough but for videos its terrible. Try to do focus pull with this and you will die. Its fast but it hunts and its not smooth at all. You have to use manual focus to change the focus point most of the time. If its dark... pointless. And its a camera made for filming....🤦 Why man.....😂?
Did you return it?
The summary of this video… after 1 month “I haven’t had a chance to…”
It gets no more to the point than this, we’ll spoke. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Thanks. Appreciate it 🙌
damn, you nailed it. thank you for the info. Very honest review.
Thanks. Still finding my feet on KZread so the positive feedback is very welcome 🙏🏻
Y do you think u need the cine version of this ?
I probably shouldn’t have used the word need. I definitely didn’t need to swap but I found a used one online that I traded my copy for. Honestly can’t tell the difference in image quality. The included Peli case is the biggest difference (but also not something I needed either). It is a slightly nicer design overall but the honest truth is; I have G.A.S!
