I think role playing games have created this idea that all of the historic armor types existed contemporaneously, and you just picked the one you liked/could afford and while the padded gambeson was always popular. Plate superseded maile with little overlap.

Love everything you do! I know your focus is London history, but the American colonial period seems to overlap quite a bit. We never learned about the English Civil War, and at 46, “the Anarchy” is a totally new concept to me- Could you, ever such often, maybe explain what was going on in the wider empire at the time?

Your account is well researched, dignified, clear, compassionate but firm, and encourages we humans to be noble, honest and true about our past. Thank you for your hard work in putting this account together. It has taken many hours and days to produce this, I'm sure, but it will continue to do good work for a long time.

Considering all the money the English Monarchy has is stolen and covered in blood , The Monarchy should be abolished and all their assets seized by the UK Government then returned to its rightful owners..

After quite a bit of research on this subject the main reason in combination with all the things you mentioned, is that these home were also functioning like hotels. They almost always had many visitors staying at any given time. Bc there were no hotels (as we know them) at the time the upper classes would stay with each other as they traveled from place to place. This is why many large homes became hotels or boarding houses/schools in the past. And still function like that to this day. 😊

The farm workers (peasants) were in a strong position. Plagues had decimated the population and therefore their employment was at a premium.

Legit got into an argument in a history class over this since i wanted to remain objective as we just dont know the full story as in first-hand account in-the-room-where-it-happened level evidence. Managed to discuss with my teacher later and we figured that there is a possibility that the royal family MIGHT have had a test done since I think old Charlie might have had some interest in the case but due to the possibility of the public losing their god damn collective marbles if it turned out to be or not be (hehe) the princes, they may have considered to simply refuse to confirm nor deny to remain impartial. This was in the same class where we debated whether or not another dude was drowned in a wine barrel, a bathtub or both so fun times :)

I visited the place and, in sharp contrast to many historical landmarks and buildings I visited I came away quite disgusted. It just hammered home how much suffering could have been avoided if all wealth hadn’t been hoarded by a few. I felt the draw of communism, to be honest.

As my drill instructor once said “hurting? Good, means you’re breathing.” As a response to being told by a recruit that getting out of a specific hold would probably break your wrist. You’d break the wrist on one hand, maybe, but you can grab them with the other hand still & well if you don’t do it you’re gunna die anyway.

Yup. Often your name was accompanied by a title before then. "oh that's Thomas the fletcher, that's John the blacksmith, that's Ely the pickler" often times your profession actually became your surname. "John Smith, Thomas Fletcher, Ely Pickler, Aaron Fisher" Urbanization in the 13th century is one of my absolute favorite time periods in European History

Sad sad world. Murdering innocent children instead of helping them to grow a beautiful powerful country. There is one hypothetical place the murderer and their conspirators belong.
