    Brilliant Dave, thanks so much for taking the time to make and post this video. Got confused about the stepped washers on my Boxer II 2.8 Hdi last time I did my cambelt change and could never get clarification of the right way round. Also, it used to worry me that the cambelt tensioner is only used when replacing the belt and not dynamically to compensate for stretching - but if that is how you say it is, its OK with me. Finally thanks for decoding the belt teeth, belt width numbers, I'll be checking mine next week when I change the belt again after 10 years:)

    Hi, Thank you very much for the excellent video on how to replace the timing belt. I have now replaced the belt on my 2.3L, 2009, including the water pump. When I turn it by hand, the timing aligns nicely. I have had locks both above cylinder four and in the cam and crankshaft wheels. I noticed that the belt was hanging out by 5-6 mm. I pushed it back in while turning it around, but after a few more turns, it seems to stick out again. My question is, what happens when the engine starts? It could destroy the engine in a few seconds if the belt comes off. What could be wrong, if there is something wrong? I have rotated it with some increased pressure on the tensioner, as you described. Could the increased pressure cause the tensioner to be misaligned? I couldn't find the torque for the nut on the high-pressure fuel pump wheel. I later heard about 90 Nm and tightened mine to that. Could that be too much and cause the wheel to be misaligned? I can't figure out the problem, if there is one. Grateful for any advice here. I'm about to put the cover back on, and everything has been done carefully and optimally. Best regards, Peter in Sweden

    You can either slacken the alternator adjustment off or the way I do it is put the belt on the alt and coolant pulleys then fit the crank pulley, it can be a bit tight but as long as the belt is the same size as the old one it should fit.

Mine seems to need to go over one more tooth but it doesn't seem possible. • @davesshed1488
    @davesshed1488Ай бұрын

    If you've got all the relevant pulleys pinned and crank locked it should fit straight on with no slack on inj pump side. Check your new belt has the correct number of teeth to match the old belt, also check that the idler and tensioner pulleys are in the correct locations, the earlier engines often used same size tens and idlers but later units the idler is larger than the tensioner pulley.

The pins are in place, one bolt locking cam through bell housing and the other one ( 5mm drill bit) I've put the idler pulley back on but its just hand tight, the tensioner pulley ive left it off for the time being to make it easier to get the belt in place, as per your video. Both pulleys are the same diameter and same as old ones and there are 153 teeth as per old belt. When I connect the belt around the crank shaft, it seems loose like in your video 7:30 mins into the vid. But later in the vid it was nice and taught, so was wondering what you did to get it tight? As mine is doing the same its too loose the teeth of the belt needs to go into the next grove but the teeth of the belt is just lining up with the teeth of the crank shaft, just needs to go that little bit more to fit into the grove of the crank shaft. Not sure what you did to tighten yours up, as it was originally loose. Is there a way of moving belt tooth into the next grove on the crank shaft? Thanks for your help! Regards, Karl

    If you watch the first part of this series of two videos you will see where the other locking pin goes, its for the injection pump and when the cam and crank are in their correct positions there is a hole in one spoke of the injection pump pulley that will line up with a hole behind it, this is the location for the timing pin.

Only problem is this hole seems smaller in diameter than the bell housing hole, so I used a small allen key to go into the hole but it doesn't seem to go in that far but maybe this hole isn't that deep? Way sweet that I found this video! I shot lots with an underlever as a kid (80s-90s) - and today I finally found out the brand of it. Somekinda Relum for sure. Rightabout same build with exact same pellet tap loading port. Mainly just a bit different stock. My stock is more bulky and square blocky at the front. Never had any grooves or anything, just all smooth all around. I just recently got it for myself, after the passing of my dad. Was a bit bummed my dad took off the og rear iron sight to give space for a new scope.🙄 And it had been left to slightly rust.. But after some refurbishing, my childhood Relum is now ready for being taken out to the range once more.😊😊 Never been much into springer mechanics myself (more of a modern co2 replica airgun guy myself), but next up I might also do a DIY tool to get the springs n piston safely out for a maintenance check.. Thanks!!😊👍🏻👍🏻

    I haven't watched any of the other videos yet, and I am 2 months too late. Regarding the testing of the flow on the exhaust ports, the flow increases consistently across the cylinder head, that is the lowest flow rate is at the end the pressure hose is connected. I would have been inclined to do the test again but with the pressure hose installed on the opposite side of the plenum. My feeling is that when a valve is opened there is more air flow at the end of the plenum where the air is entering, this might create a lower pressure at that end causing lower air flow through that port. I will now watch the next videos and find out you have tried that🤣
