Scribbles to Screen

Here you will find my informative mini documentaries, topics consisting of my general interests, either my geeky fascination of films and shows, or trying to comprehend the inner workings of the universe. Whatever the topic, I approached each video, in the mindset to introduce people to these niche subjects, and will hopefully enlighten my viewers.
Along with occasionally posting an original short film.

Did I hallucinate that Zootopia 2 was announced shortly after the first one and was supposed to have a 2021 release? I know it’s greenlit now, but I thought we talked about that a million years ago.

I had a weird mandella effect with Finding Nemo, where i remembered seeing the Baracuda eating the eggs. Obviously it wasn't in the film and was likely just my brain filling in the blanks but i remember thinking there was a scene missing from the DVD and being so confused by it. But obviously as dark as Pixar were willing to go sometimes they wouldn't go that far.

I remember being excited for this when it was first announced, but hearing the script, I’m… glad it didn’t happen. The movie opening with Aughra making herself “young” (which, she was never young-canonically she was born old) using the power of the suns reflecting the Crystal just sounds like the movie immediately smacking you in the face with “LOOK!!! WE COMPLETELY FORGOT THE THEMES AND LORE OF THE ORIGINAL MOVIE!!!” Plus the Skeksis/urRu returning is such a bad writing decision on so many levels. It feels like it was made to appeal to the most surface-level fans who remember the original movie from their childhood, and it goes against so much of the lore and character development and… uughghghghgh. Yes, I know that decision was kept for the comics-I’ve read the sequel comics and while there’s parts I enjoy, I DETEST the Skeksis and urRu returning. I love them dearly, but their return just wrecks so much of the story and lore. This was a really fascinating video-legit had no idea the script had leaked. But gosh I’m glad we never got this movie. Though maybe it would have improved with rewrites of the script-who knows. Glad we got the prequel series… or at least part of it, anyway.

Wow, there’s a lot on here that are new to me, which is nice to see in an iceberg video. But what’s really wild is hearing that cyber world movie is considered lost media??? I watched that in theaters! It was kinda weird-I remember some of the cuts being in strange places (particularly the Simpsons part ending with Homer falling into a pit and disintegrating). I also think some of the dialogue was censored to make it more kid-appropriate? I could be remembering wrong though. Still, it’s weird knowing that I have, apparently, experienced lost media.

Why didn't you mention Jeff Smith's Bone movie, being made by Warner Brothers back in 2008? It would have been directed by Kung Fu Panda's second director. The project ran for a long time, but in the end it was quietly canceled. As far as I know, no lnow footage or concept art has been shown. It was my most anticipated movie in my late childhood, but it just never came true. Then netflix tried to do a series and that was also cancelled. There's also the 90's Bone movie by Nickelodeon! How could you miss this?

Speaking of Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Years ago I was at a Who Framed Roger Rabbit panel at a convention hosted by Roger VA Charles Fleischer and the author of the original novel (Who Censored Roger Rabbit) Gary K. Wolf. During the panel they brought up a scene that got cut out when it was released to home media. It was the scene of where Eddie Valiant talks with Betty Boop and when does her catchphrase her dress falls off like in the old shorts. It was only scene in the original theater release and was cut out when it was release to home media. Probably due to it being to "riskay" and show longer on screen, then the Jessica Rabbit flashing shot.

I miss the anticipation of waiting all year long for the "special" movies/shows on tv. Wizard of Oz, Charlie Brown Christmas, even waiting for Summer reruns to catch weekly shows you missed during the year. Sure, it's okay to be able to watch a show whenever you want. But there is value in waiting, too.

An important section of the Wizard of OZ that this documentary overlooks was removed in around 1974 - 1975 where the Russian guards were marching back and forth and the Captain is speaking to the Scare Crow, Lion and Tinman where the Captain was lamenting about them, he and the guards being under the witch's spell. It became a political point of contention with the next door neighbors, Russian, Moscow and MGM. The scene was removed because the Kremlin had become greatly offended at being compared, or portrayed as the wicked witch, which was major taboo in Russia. That was the analogy of the script. Was that added or was that the original text from the book? I hear that it was added for the film. If that story line and script was originally from the book, "The Wizard of OZ" then removing that part from the ending when they were going to rescue Dorothy from the Witch's castle would undermine an important storyline theme, and writers intent by the author. Personally, I hope that the footage was not destroyed and perhaps can be restored to the film. Why allow whom many have referred to as an evil empire, Russia, change or take away from what we make?
