    For driving on or off base always be aware of the road conditions and know what red, yellow, and green means in conjunction with the current road conditions. Always have a set of tire chains in your car so if you have to drive in heavy snowpacks or drifts on the road you will not have any problems. When you mentioned SRT which is Souris River Telephone. The company is member owned when I was stationed there, and they are great! Talking about activities during the seasons and the nightlife there brings back memories. When I was stationed there between 1986 to 1992. The local radio station would always broadcast the 90 days of Summer and I would always laugh and knew what it meant. Wintertime was very special because of Christmas and New Year's. Everybody would come together and celebrate by going to each other's houses and party. The nightlife in the Magic City of Minot can be one of hit or miss. When I was stationed there the Sheraton Inn was the place to be. You had Canadians come down from Canada to party with their American cousins. Places to go were a lot to explore like, the Souris River Wildlife Refuge just a little North of the base. If you are into history, go visit Fort Abraham Lincoln. Do they still have the billboard saying Custer was still alive when he left here? I can go on forever and will say this in closing. It is up to you to make your assignment either a good one or a bad one. If you become lonely, reach out to others because they might be like you. I thank you! Aim High!!!

    I’m glad the next generation of Airman are getting to enjoy the new dorms at Minot AFB! I was stationed there in 2004 and the dorms were old and we had to share bathrooms! I was in the dorm right across the street from security forces and right next chow hall! The only thing I miss about Minot is the people I met! I don’t miss the below zero temps or plugging my car in during the winter months 😂

Some of the specialty code careers like honor guard, public affairs, and other careers interest me. Any recommendations of great jobs that have generally been noted as great jobs?

    I was in the dorms for 8/9 months. But typically for others could be longer or shorter. You can always go to a financial advisor and show the a budget plan and show them you’re able to live on your own and you can get moved off base and start receiving single BAH!

    @jackiie1012 I personally don’t mind it! It honestly depends on the person. People love to just shit on specific jobs in the Air Force and I know people who like it and dislike it. Typically the people who don’t like it are the same people who went in as open general or the people who washed into the career field.

    @@mariselavilleda I was delayed enlistment for one year and upon high school graduation I was off to Air Force Basic Training. This is when it was five weeks two days in June 1983. I went in on an open contract and choose 122X0 which was Aircrew Life Support, it is called Aircrew Flight Equipment now. I never regretted it. Aim High! "Only the Best Come North!" What rank are you just curious. I’m planning on enlisting for 6 years to advance to e3 sooner but I’ve heard if you’re e3 they’ll kick you out of the dorms. My biggest fear is them kicking me out and not giving me bah to get a apartment.

  • @mariselavilleda
    @mariselavilleda6 ай бұрын

    I'm a E-3 I'm also a four year, I came in as a E-2 and I also had college, so that helped! Some people get lucky getting kicked out especially if you're a female and in the newer dorms here! There are times that they don't give you BAH when they kick you out the dorms but I've only heard times that it kicks in a month after and that the pay you for the month that you had to pay out of pocket. It varies from people.

    I would but it was pretty straight forward with me picking security forces and wanting to leave my hometown as soon as I could. But typically when you go to your recruiters office the next day you take the asvab they will have a sheet with all the jobs you’re qualified for and you’d just rank them :)! You could demand your job! But it’s really tricky depending on how your recruiter is. You always have the right to refuse a job.
