This scene is always really hard for me to watch. Not only because I'm a combat vet myself, but because I knew Randy Shugart very well. I was an Instructor at Ranger School when he went through, and again when he came back in the Army and came to SF. I didn't know Gordon personally, but like most guys in the Ranger/ SF world, if you stick around long enough there won't be many established guys you don't at least know OF. Some superb, highly professional soldiers died that day. There are no guarantees in combat, especially Infantry/ SF combat. Guys can do everything right and still get killed. In my 5 years, 8 months of combat time in the Rangers and SF, I was wounded about a dozen times; most weren't serious, but none are fun. I live every day with the guilt EVERY NCO or officer carries who's lost men in combat. It never goes away.

I am not a great violin fan, mostly sounds like a cat on a hot tin roof to me, but this cat really sings for me. Philip Glass is an amazing composer and this music will live with me forever.

German citizen here: What feels so sickening to me is that in our current times, people really seem to enjoy being totally ignorant of the past, repeating history as we speak. What do I mean? I am born in the 80s as the grandson of both a concentration camp prisoner as well as the grandson of another man who was an SS and died before I was born. Due to this circumstance, I studied history and developed a strong sense of responsibility when it comes to our people‘s duty regarding being firmly anti-fascist. I understand that I can only live a free life because of courageous men like the gentlemen of Easy company. Yet here we are in 2024, seeing neo-fascist parties on the rise not only in Germany (AfD), but also in France (Le Pen and such), the Netherlands (PVV and Wilders) and even the very USA with their despotic, racist and anti-democratic Trump who, badly enough, already was elected president before and, at this point in time, again tries to hijack democracy by trying to erode the division of power between the judicative, legislative and executive forces. If anyone knows best, it is us Germans - cause we have been in such a horrid, totalitarian system before. And look at what my ancestors have done to the world. Just look! It saddens me so much to see that billions of people seem to not give a single damn about these horrors of the past. Every day they are joyfully marching towards the same insane and inhumane depravity we have seen in the 1930s and 1940s. There is a German post-war saying: Wehret den Anfängen! That is: Fight the beginnings (relating to ultra-nationalism and fascism). I must ask: Why do so many choose to forget, ready to allow these beginnings to happen? Anyway: Men like those of Easy company gave everything they could possibly give so that all of us post-war folks, across the entire globe, can live in freedom and peace. The least we can give them back is some respect instead of spitting in their faces as so many do today. For that peace we still enjoy is fragile - and can, as we see given the current state of the world, easily be eroded yet again. Let´s work together as one and prevent history from repeating itself. We are one in our humanity. Unless we choose to forget that, we honour the achievements of these brave soldiers featured in the video. I salute them all, no matter if we talk just Easy company or all the other brave individuals who sacrificed so much for my generation and those to come. Thank you.

These guys are real men. Not tattooed "tough" guys who think they rule the roost. No, these are men that you can't help but respect, and it's immensely frustrating that they are all gone now. Soon, the greatest generation will be gone, but hopefully, they won't ever be forgotten.

my grandfathers brother was 17 when he fought his first action in north africa. the germans launched an infantry attack and fired smoke over the battlefield . they counterattacked with their own infantry. he attacked through the smoke and a german soldier come through the smoke, and they fought hand to hand and alan put his bayonette though the germans throat. he told me this story one christmas eve after several drinks. he finished the story and just cried and cried. he was with the canadian first army.
