  Hello doc how do you tell if a dorper ewe is pregnant?

  Good question,there are six ways 1.You can stand behind the ewe and clasp the belly with both of your hands just infront of the udders and try to lift up,in late gestation you will feel the fetus/es.Only accurate in late gestation,at least 60 days onwards 2.Testing of Estron Sulphate presence and levels in urine-this one is done at 50 and 70 days after breeding. 3.Hormones-Progesterone hormones can be tested at 50 and 70 days after breeding. 4.Radiography at 70 and 90 days after breeding. 5.Vaginal biopsies at day 40 after breeding 6.Ultrasound-this is by far the most accurate,and can be done between 60-80 days after breeding.   No,Ultrasound needs at least 28-35 days. Hormonal assay needs at least 90 days after calving to check. Pregnancy associated glycoprotein check up also needs at least 90 days after calving. Transrectal palpation also needs at least 35 days,i do it at 60 days onwards.
