To keep yourself CALM like that is what often keeps the attackers away im quite sure. Im SURE that when you DONT PANIC from having sharks close, this HELP YOU by not drawing needless ATTENTION to yourself! Because NATURALLY, you are NOT ON THE MENU for sharks! But when you PANIC and SPLASH WATER you’re drawing attention to yourself!… ANYWAY, SAME TIME tou need to RESPECT them!!! DON’T DO THINGS that gets you EXPOSED to these dangers! 👉 first rule. Above mentioned is second rule. Rest of rules i cannot say all but over the last 2 weeks i have learned a LOT of 1 of the 2 things i WOULD BE/WAS afraid of all my life!.. -HEADS ON when you see a shark, when it know you AWARE of it by looking at it, its unlikely you’ll get attack. It COULD TRY a test-bite! 👉 redirect it by stopping them at their nose, just turn them other way. They are CURIOUS TOO! Not necessarily predatory on humans. However, often your sight is likely to be limited. Or you don’t see it coming. Thats why i recommend the first rule most of all!!! Don’t expose yourself to needless dangers. I never understood why people go out and surfing in shark-rich waters.. It is also common knowledge that sharks may mistake a surfer for a turtle… And.. I just heard a story of a big shark, killing the friend of a couple, all eaten. Than the next day (or few hours) it took his girlfriend, He continued swimming to the reef, and was actually getting close, Than the shark appear again. For his last meal… AGAIN!! So HE PRAYED!! And as by the mercy of God, A big wave came… This was the push he needed. To get to the Reef fast enough. 👉 full of adrenaline he swam to the reef. Being the only survivor eventually. Crazy story because the first man attacked, He realised he was about to die. So he said to the other 2, you swim ahead! And he swam opposite direction. And got eaten by the shark. Must be EXTREMELY painful, scary and hopeless… Dont do it.

i cant understand the attraction, risking the worst death imaginable for a few small waves on a piece of fiberglass. this is no different than strolling through the savannah but with invisible predators or deciding to paddleboard in a croc infested river. its just madness.

Surfed from Sunset cliffs SD to Cardiff 90-99 timeframe and never once seen a shark but Im sure those waters held some big birds with the Seal population. Seen a few dead Whale carcasses wash up thats about it. Never once thought about sharks while out enjoying my wave time but I seen the movie JAWS growing up and knew they lived in the ocean before paddling out😊. I dont even remember reading or hearing about any shark attacks during that timeframe 90-99, left in 99.? Most the time I couldnt even see my feet dangling from the board so visibility was not the best and waters always cold so always wore a 3/2 wetsuit, black of course with booties.

Day after a rain? There was no one else in the water bc ur supposed to wait 72 hrs before SoCal water is safe after a rain because of all the runoff and pollution, but what's a little hepatitis for empty waves? Fail. Water is also murky, stirred up from the pollution. Sharks are mostly elusive and will come closer in without all the people in the water. Word to the wise.
