What do you think about the quality from the savotta side pouches, because they are just 500D cordura but pretty expensive? In my opinion for the price I expect 1000d cordura…
@@TigercraftHD The quality is exceptional. 1000d isn’t necessary for smaller volume pouches and bags. It would just make them heavier and more rigid.
Was wondering about getting smaller vs the bigger one. i made the mistake and bought the Jaakari S and always regretted not getting the medium. this time im getting the bigger one! Thanks brother.
Over 100 degrees wow...that's intense. 😬🤌
The Keikka shoulder straps with the Hatka perfectly well. Since you max out the Hatka so much, it would make sense to add them to the setup. Greetings! Stefan
@@Cheeso99 Thanks! Yes, the Keikka harness works great with this. I added it shortly after this video. Cheers!
THANKS GOOD JOB
That's a great temperature hack.
It worked surprisingly well.
Interesting to see same stuff but with different perspective (channel Tim Keys) :) (thx for both) Finally I decided not a for a Jerven but I went for a Särmä Thermal Cloak not insulated one ... as you wrote me it is just 'same' on the quality side (I 've chosen the Särmä because it is cheaper for a wider blanket/bag/... comparing to the Jerven Original of course ;))
That’s great! Glad to hear it. I carry a small webbing belt with mine for use as a cloak. For sleeping, I recommend running a tarp in an A frame setup, with cloak suspended underneath, sleeping pad underneath cloak, and insulation layers inside. I made a video a few months ago with the Jerven showing this setup.
Man, you won me as a subscriber. This was the most useful video today. Many thanks. I'll try out all these pitches.
Awesome! Hope it helps. Cheers
Fiiiilthy tarp. Gets bloody Hot in Auzzi mate, and in the north the heat evaporateds the water • clouds • RAIN! So, extra cool shade + stayin' dry. Oh, and if ya need to make like the birds and flock off... Poncho. Maaate! (I had a laugh watchin' you takin' out the gear in your arse pack. Quite similar to what I use... Common sense really but being given a heads up on what's good to pack is making it easy for folks just starting out 💜👍. I pack snaks too, brick type ration + peanut butter + lollies to keep up moral. And some tea and powdered milk. If I eat once a day and ration it I can go 3 days on what I carry, so its not a lot but gets me outa dodge. It's also good to take on a hunt, not too heavy and gives 3 days to bring home some bacon.) Gotta find out about the "Lash it" cordage... Light, stronge and no stretch - perfect! Cheers buddy. Lookin' forward to the next one from Auzzi, maaate! Universal Sovereign Citizen
Hey Brother! Thanks so much. It was abnormally hot that day. The area we live in is sort of a polar vortex. Big snow, deep cold. I had to make snow shoes the length of my body to float on top of the powder. The last couple year it has changed quite a bit. Natural changes and some nonsense. The storms lately... Big thunder, wind absolutely ripping. Food for myself usually goes packed inside a dry bag in my pack, and then I will run it up a tree at night. We had a bear come into camp one night up here. Bastard bit my ALICE pack 😂 outside out tent. Our dog got into it with him, pushed him away from the camp, but then he found the ration bag which was only about 12 feet up in the air. He got all our food and our coffee. This happened on the first night of a 3 day trip up in the high mountains here. It was a good learning experience. A 3 day hunt sounds amazing. Been super busy taking care of things (small homestead), so a night out once in awhile is about as much as I can do at present. Cheers Brother 🤝
Damn. We are not quite that hot but close. Great demo of a very versatile piece of kit. That askare is pretty nice too. Hope to see a video on that x-reel fishing kit. Looks interesting. Nate
It was definitely out of normal for us. Couldn’t believe it really. I will do something on the X Reel. Really nice little setup. Small, light, compact, fits in my pack like it’s not even there. How’s your wrist doing?
@@EnduranceRoom Getting better thanks. Started back into some lighter KB work
@@journeyman7189 Thats great, man. Glad to hear it. 2 hand swings and goblet squats, plus single leg deadlifts and flat back pullovers (kind of the KB version of skull crushers) would all be good. Relatively low stress on wrist. The skull crushers would probably be most challenging on wrist, but they are really really good. I usually use them at the end of a session if I want to do a little hypertrophy work.
👍🏻👍🏻
🤝
Great review!
Thank you Kris!
Im using it under my hammock so I dont get bitten in my ass. Just throw backpack inside so it doesn't get wet. And it stopp the cold wind from cooling down my... you get the point😅 .Packs small and works damn good as tarp and bivvy. First gear that goes in to the bag
@@markoruotsalainen5480 Right on! Absolutely awesome kit. 💯
THANKS !!!!!!!!!!!
Do you have one with the insulation attached? I wonder how one of those will do in this same sort of test? I have one with the insulation attached - so inquiring minds would like to know
Yes, I do. I have a Hunter model. I think it would work just as well. Absolutely awesome kit.
Thanks brother! 😃 I really like that poncho's dual purposes. I would imagine, if stealth is not a consideration, that it could be worn backwards to keep a body 17° cooler as well 🤗 Praying that you & the family are doing well and are at peace 🕊️ Sending my love from America's heartland ☺️
Thanks sister! It is really interesting kit. I will have to give that a try. We are doing well. Weather has been pretty interesting. Huge storm last night, thunder rolled continuously for about a minute. Pretty sure we had an earthquake preceding it as well. All good though! Peace and blessings to you!
Excellent work. I can’t believe how much the Jerven tarp drops the temperature 🤔 I had this idea in the past but never had the temperature to experience with. Thanks for sharing this experiment 👍🏻
@@The-Highlands Thank you very much. Yes, it was quite interesting to see. The temperature was definitely out of the ordinary for here, but I guess that worked out for the test. Cheers
🙏❤️ Another Great Video ❤️🙏
Thank you very much! 🤝
How would it be with the insulated one??…
I think it would work in a similar fashion. The Hunter model is amazing.
*I spent 6 months with the 864th Engineer Battalion, during the summer months, stationed at the Yakima Firing Center in central Washington state when I was a medic in the Army. That country is considered to be semi-arid desert, and it regularly topped 110 degrees that summer of 1978. I measured the ground temperatures one day both in the shade and out in the sun next to a broken-down road grader where I had positioned myself halfway between where the gravel was being mined and the dump trucks, graders, and excavators were improving the fire roads. The ground soil temperature measured over 140 degrees Fahrenheit out in the direct sun, and in the shade of the busted grader the soil temperature read over 125 degrees Fahrenheit. On top of the flat roof of the O.D. Green painted road grader's cab where I occasionally sunbathed, the steel cab measured in excess of 175 degrees Fahrenheit. The reflective properties of a Jerven Fjellduken or Sarma TST Thermal Cloak would have been GRACIOUSLY WELCOMED!!*
you should have taken the old Army casualty blanket aka the Grabber space blanket. same effect for 20 bucks ;-) back in the 70/80s they were still in use with the army
Awesome video my man! That Savotta pack is legit! Very well designed! I can’t believe the Jerven cooled behind 17F! I wonder what the Jerven Primaloft would do? 🤔 🧪 👨🔬 😂 keep it up brother! Another great video, keep it up!
Thanks brother! Absolutely awesome gear. 💯 💪 I will have to give the insulated version a try at this. It should work similarly. 🤝
Thanks for the video. Now, all that I need to do is decide what piece of Savotta gear is next on my purchase list, the Askare Hip Pack or the 15-liter Kahakka pack? I'm probably going to purchase the Askare first as it will seamlessly blend into my uses with my 12-liter Hatka Day pack. A question for the viewers of *"Endurance Room?"* I just recently received my Pathfinder Canteen Cooking Kit and the new Pathfinder Canteen/Canteen Cup with Batwing Handles Set; and I am looking for a pair of canteen pouches with P.A.L.S. webbing attachment straps that are large enough to accommodate the Pathfinder canteens nested inside of their canteen cups. I probably won't choose to carry the slip-on nesting stove with the U.S.G.I.-style canteen cup, and probably will only choose to carry the 2 canteen cups and the canteen cup lid in addition to the 2 canteens themselves. That being said, my Varusteleka Sarma TST XL General Purpose pouch is sufficiently large to easily accommodate both canteens nested inside of their canteen cups when they are placed side-by-side into the pouch with the concave faces of the canteens facing one another. I really wish that Self Reliance Outfitters would offer just the 39oz. wide-mouth stainless steel canteens for sale by themselves. In hot weather where water sources are scarce, I could see carrying 4 of the Pathfinder canteens, with 2 of them on my waist, and the back-up canteens without canteen cups in the Sarma TST XL pouch with a piece of leather/thick fabric between the 2 canteens to keep them from rattling against one another. Anyway, thanks to anyone who can point me in the direction of a manufacturer selling a Cordura pouch large enough to accept a Pathfinder canteen nesting inside of its matching canteen cup.
I think you would be very happy with the ASKARE + HATKA combination. As for the canteen, the MOLLE USGI canteen pouch should work. The SAVOTTA zip GP pouches would also work well. You could check their dimensions at Varusteleka to be sure.
@brucemattes5015… You may have already considered this option- but the Pathfinder Canteen Cup Set does fit inside a standard USGI canteen pouch. And that’s how I carry mine. In fact, the entire set fits well, including the stove and a fish mouth spreader. I just put the pot lid on the bottom and tuck the pouch’s top flap behind the canteen before strapping it all down. When I tried this configuration, I was amazed at how well it all fit together. And the surplus pouches are so inexpensive and easy to source. Might even be worth trying in the short term until you find something else you like better.
Great test!! If the weather cooperates, I’m going to test this myself this week. I’d like to see the temperature difference between the shade from the Jervan and shade from a tree in real time.
@@MichaelTravis12c27 Thanks! That sounds great 👍 Let me know how it goes. 🤝
I am also curious I expect the tree shadow to have a better cooling effect
Hi Jess . This is an awesome video .I still do not own a cammo tarp . Savotta is a nice set up .
Hey Rod! Thanks very much. Savotta makes some of the best gear I have ever used. Incredibly tough and very versatile.
nice video dude, 40 degrees is no joke. As an Australian its really cool to see how the Jerven can help in warmer climates. I wonder if the Hunter would do the same thing or the insulation would stop it from reflecting as much.
Hey Dave! Yeah, it was a hot one for sure. I think the Hunter would perform similarly. It would hold some heat, but the shade should be cool. I will give it a go if I get the opportunity to test it. Cheers
Hehe, I had it quite similar. 5 days after I got the pack, I injured my shoulder. Isn't it a bit (or very) hot under the thermal blanked in the summer? Do you usual carry it with you in summer?
105 degrees all the way up there? DAMN lol Awesome video!
@@froginthewaves8450 Thanks! Yeah, brother, it was roasting hot for up here.
Filming and posting mine within the next 18 hours or so, crazy summer schedule over here
Another great video Jess! That's bright enough for a rescue signal that the poor cameraman that was left on the moon could spot it LOL! Thanks for the props Buddy your the best! : )
No problem! That worked really well. “Left on the moon” LOL “We would love to go back in a nano second, but we lost the technology”
Good sense of humor here! :) May be the Indians can tell NASA how to do it. ;)
Jervens are back in stock! Several models available now. betterbushcraft.com/products/jerven-fjellduken-original-mountain-camo?_pos=2&_sid=0e104b6e8&_ss=r VARUSTELEKA is expecting more ASKARE in a couple weeks. You can order them direct from www.savotta.fi if you are in the EU

I instantly ordered this Beauty in a heartbeat! It’s my 4th Savotta Backpack, and I love the 3 I own already to death! I can’t wait to get the Kahakka 25l in my grabby hands! 😊
Can't really compare the 2. One is just a filter the other is a purifier You pay for what you get
@@chefgav1 They’re really not that different. But hey, use what you like.
@@EnduranceRoom Are you unaware of the differences between a filter and a purifier? Also Grayl have an English website with published results bachgold have no English website or any published results.Grayl even have a 1 way valve which can take mixes. Bachgold is not even in same league

@@Stracker308 Thank you!
replace ya woobie with a snugpak insulated poncho liner.. you ll thank me later :)
@@RootsLion Nice. Heard good things about Snugpak, but Jerven Fjelduken Hunter is the way.
Does it remove viruses?
@@johnmbrown6627 I don’t think so... But FWiW, I don’t think the Grayl does either. They’re just making money off claiming that it does.
@@EnduranceRoom Luckily we don't have a lot of those is this country . is the new filter available here yet?
@@johnmbrown6627 I don’t know. I haven’t been in touch with them in awhile.
I love mine, but I'm having a hell of a time getting the sleeve out when I need to fill it. I know it needs to be snug, but wow
@@tracyrenfro8619 Yes, it is definitely snug. Try rotating the sleeve. It seems to work better than pulling straight.
@EnduranceRoom That does make it easier. I guess I'll be building my hand strength some more 💪
I had friends who would sleep 2-6am until 2pm and hangout through the night while I worked 9-5 so I’d end up passing out while we’re hanging out. They’d mess with me while I was asleep a lot so I just got to the point where I gave up on caring and would just start a full fist fight if they wake me and I’d just start kicking their asses… not my favorite version of myself but oh well
Thanks dude!
what is the military number on your bug net model? some models come with different tie configurations
throw back Jess, thanks for putting this on the front page, wouldn't have found it otherwise. Leaving the moustache at home was clever, gotta keep things ultralight.
@@davef5916 Thanks Dave. It was a fun trip. Ah, the mustache 😂
When did you get a cool enough day?
@@Gungnir762 It’s been bipolar here. Averaging in 70-80s, up to 100+, but also dropping into the 50-60s. This was maybe 3 or 4 weeks ago.
jakari is a whore in Finnish. It's pronounced with 3 A's from the word "cat". Therefore Jääkäri becomes Jaakari
Great video though!
Is that the uninsulated version?
@@johnmbrown6627 Yes. Works a little better as a tarp than the insulated models. But, the insulated models are better for condensation. The zippers need vented periodically to freshen the air up, but in general, these things are great. Just add a sleeping bag or a woobie.
@@EnduranceRoom I like the reflective part, it's in my list now
And as usual, they are out of stock. Welcome to my everyday life
@@johnmbrown6627 Checkout the Jerven Original at www.betterbushcraft.com I just did a video on it. Great kit. Similar, but different size. They should have more in stock within next week or so.
Very nice set up, as for blending in to the background . . . stood out like a sore thumb to me because I'm colourblind! Seems they used people like me in WW2 to spot camouflaged installations - it's about the only thing it's any good for!
@@jeffreycrawley1216 Thanks! That is interesting indeed. I had not heard that before.
Great job! Simple. No distracting music.
Im hard pressed. About the hunter and the extreme. It got really cold over here in Eastern oregon where me breathing almost froze my lungs. I cannot imagine being in the nights in the mountains with just a hunter.
@@gospelninja2.016 Either would be valuable. The Hunter more versatile, as you can use it in milder weather by itself or simply add insulation inside it for extreme cold. The setup I showed here with it under the tarp and suspended is extremely powerful, an insulated thermal bivvy tent. In warm weather, you don’t need a sleeping bag. In colder weather (30F and below), add one. I have had this thing for about 6 years now and have never regretted it. It is not the only solution, but man, is it a good one.
what a crappy way to sleep outdoors lol
You’ve completely missed the point.
At first glance I thought this title was “overnight jerkin off in a tent in heavy rains with Norwegian special forces”. Lmao
Thank you Jess for your content. You seem like such a layed back dude and you've inspired me. Tonight I received 2 Romanian Plash Palatka's so please keep showing Paltkas vids. You have also posted forest people experiences, KEEP EM COMING! You are on the cutting edge of both subjects. Your friend in NC, Jimmy
Thank you, Jimmy. That’s great to hear you got some plash palatkas. I will make more content with them. As for the forest people, I have had good and bad experiences (extreme on both ends of the spectrum). Mostly positive these days, and out of respect, I don’t go into it on here. Most important thing I could offer though, is we are an open book. They see and feel everything. Have good intentions and show respect, things can become very interesting. I would recommend checking out Sunbow True Brother. He has a website, some books, and done a few podcasts. Well worth checking out. Cheers, Jess
Totally agree about the Forest People after seeing one I don't really want to have anything to do with them. I tell them that and not to scare me, now they pretty much leave me alone but always let me know they are around often with comical results. Stay safe out there.
@@jimmydunlap74 Yeah, I felt that way for awhile, too. I started speaking to them after they tried scaring me. It’s been pretty interesting since then. Be safe too, brother. Cheers
