I have the exact same combination. Sometime I swap out the 3800 pre with a Marantz 1150D integrated amp which looks identical to the 3800 pre-amp. It has the same pre in & main out jacks except the 3800 has two where the 1150D has only one. No "speaker pop" on turn on with the 1150D and it has the whiter lettering on the inside faceplate which is easier for me to see as I'm a little vision challenged. I keep looking for a parts 3800 that has the whiter lettering which is indicative of the later production runs. Mine is from an earlier run. I really like the 300Dc, so much that I bought a second one and recently had my original one re-capped and it sounds terrific. I'm just going to alternate them every three months. I had the 250M and 510M which are the cosmetic matches to the 3800/1150DC but both became problematic so I stick with the 300DCs. Plus those 300DC meters are pure eye candy to me whether the unit is turned on or off.

I had this amp and the 3650 at one point pushing D9s. Amazing sound and clarity

Brad, I had the 3650 as well but the switches were very problematic which tended to cut out one channel so I gave it to one of my best friends who is a former bench tech from back in the day and a terrific vintage Marantz hobbyist. He has it all apart right now and I told him he could keep it because I got lucky and found a Marantz 3250B (with original box and manual) which is the step down from the 3650 but has most all of the same features and it works superbly. I have two 300DC based systems, one system uses the 3800 pre-amp the other now uses the 3250B. Love both systems.
