I am a sped teacher too (self contained) . I am so envious of the size of all the sped classrooms. Mine is so tiny and I think is part of my behavior problems.
Space and layout can have such an effect on behavior! Do you have access to any dividers at all?
I feel you! 9th year teacher and decided this would be my first year to teach summer school. We’re wrapping up our finals week. I was not prepared for a more then 4 grade levels below performer on my case load. There were days we were grasping at straws, but we made it work!
Bless you for sticking with it! Always adjusting to make it work! Enjoy the rest of your summer before the school year starts back up 🫶🏼
I really enjoyed this video. I’m a 19th year Pre-K Special Edu teacher and this is my first year teaching ESY. (I always taught the typical summer school for rising kindergarten students). It's alot with the different students from all over our district. I have 9 students with 2 teacher assistants and the students are with us from 8:00-12:30. 'I agree with you that it gets better every day but I think this will be my last year. I think I need to teach something different than what I do during the school year. The 18th is our last day….
Thanks for watching! Do you have all the students the entire time? I agree that it can be a lot after a full year of teaching! I’ll have an infant next summer so I probably won’t teach ESY next summer either but I’m learning a lot right now! I teach BD during the school year so some of the students with different needs I’m working with for ESY are definitely helping me to learn more.
I love that you start with a daily devotion 💖 That must really help get your in the right mindframe.
Yes it does for sure! ❤️
How long are your kids at ESY each day?
The kids come in 1 hour increments
6:09 Looks practice for prewriting strokes
Ahhhh I’ll have to go back and see if that’s what it’s for!
definitely do more timelapses :)
Much respect to you! I did that job for a year and learned so much! I have the utmost respect for behavior teachers ❤❤❤
Awww thank you! What do you teach now? ❤️
Good luck on Monday! Where do you get the Velcro big rolls from?
Thank you! And and I wish I had a for sure answer for you but I think Amazon? Our SpEd department provided them for us at the beginning of the year.
Tip- try to get all the materials or verify that they have been received by the campus hosting ESY for students on your roster before the end of the school year. Sometimes you don’t get anything other than their goals.
I was able to do that for the progress monitoring procedures thankfully! This is my first year doing ESY though so I just assumed teacher would send the needed materials…I was wrong! Lol
Awesome thought process. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching! Let me know if there’s anything else you’d like me to cover! ❤️
I loved teaching ESY, I was always allowed to teach in my own classroom. That made it so much easier!
Jealous! Yes that would make it much easier. Unfortunately it’s held at a different building than where I teach at. I’ll be setting up my own classroom here soon too! lol
Similar journey. 🎉
❤❤ i had the worst pregnancy brain when I taught kindergarten 11 years ago! Hard to believe the time has flown. Love your vlog! New sub here! Best wishes for an amazing year from a 4th grade teacher from TX!! ❤❤
Awwww thank you! 🫶🏼 So glad you’re here! Have a great year as well! ❤️
This was very helpful!!! I love to watch teacher videos just to kinda know if this is the career path I truly want to follow. I hope to go to school for teaching and early childhood education when I graduate high school. ❤

Hi!! Just found you! I'm excited to watch another sped teacher! I'm originally from SD, but a Dordt grad from Iowa!!! So fun that you're from Iowa! I teach k-8 in Indiana now!
Hi!! So glad you found my channel and connected with me here! I am actually originally from SD too 🤗 I graduated from USF- not too far from Dordt! Love connecting with other sped teachers (especially SD and Midwest ones!) ❤️

We’re in this together!
We need more Sped videos!!!❤
That’s why I started my channel- totally agree!
I’m a special ed teacher and just now found your videos!! Love it!🤗
Yay! Thank you! I can’t wait to post more for you 🤗
You look great! I know it’s easier said than done but try not to be so hard on yourself! Also with your line of work, plus adoption and a new baby. I will be praying for you. It will be a lot but whatever you decide it will be ok.
Thank you, Joy! ❤️ It’s been hectic for sure but we are so thankful for all of it ❤️
loved the vlog! thank you for fostering and congrats on your pregnancy!!
Thank you!! 😊
We use fastbridge and just rely on everything digitally going into Educlimber. No scanning here thank goodness, and that included check in check out behavior data. Does your district have Educlimber?
I love your channel I was in special ed when I was in school
Thank you for being here! 🫶🏼
Congratulations! 🎉❤
Thank you!! ❤️
I am SO glad I found your channel!! I used to be a para, but have been in the medical field for several years & miss the classroom!! This is super helpful & I’m looking forward to binge-watching your videos 😅💕✌️I’m considering going back to school for sped education but nervous.. thank you for all you do!!
Awwww thank you for your comment!! I’m so glad you’re here! ❤️❤️ Let me know if you have any specific questions about being in the classroom- I’d love to help make that transition easier for you if you’re going to pursue it! 🤍
Congratulations on your baby girl!!!!I'm really happy for you!!!!!Thank you for your sharing. Wishing you good health and smooth childbirth. I'm here to accept your good luck. 😇😇
Thank you so much! ❤️❤️
Congrats!!! So exciting!
Thank you, Joy! ❤️
Congrats to all of you
Thank you! 😊
@@ElainaxStrongerSpEd you are very welcome
Congradulations on your baby girl!!! You look so happy and wishing you the best. Alicia from CT
Thank you, Alicia!! ❤️
Praying that all goes well. I had fibroids as well (twice)so I feel your pain. I eventually did the embolization because I did not want to do surgery again. Lifting you up in prayer 🙏🏾
Thank you! The prayers are so appreciated ❤️
Congratulations! How exciting. I feel you on the exhaustion - it is like no other. Rest when you can!
Thank you! And yes the exhaustion is unexplainable 😅
Congratulations! Prayers for you and your growing family!
Thank you! ❤️
Thanks be to God! What a miracle. I had infertility where my Napro doctor removed fibroids and endometriosis. After that I successfully got pregnant but had two miscarriages due to low progesterone. My Napro doctor increased it though so we will see what happens.
Sending you all the love and prayers! It’s not an easy journey! ❤️
Congrats to all of you
Thank you! ❤️
I love your sweater! It's great that your son loves his new bike. Have a great school break!
Looks like you had fun! Mom win!!
You are very authentic. Life is unpredictable! I was a bit jelly of your Subway lunch. They actually have Subway here but I never tried it. I am sure they do not have bacon. I will have to see what they have- I am so curious now. You had a busy week with trainings. Yay for your weather. You inspired me to tackle my mountain of laundry waiting to be folded/ hung and put away. Have a great week!
You’ll have to try it! My little hometown growing up only has Subway and Pizza Ranch for chain restaurants so I love both of them! Let me know what you think! Have a great week 😊
Welcome back! I agree with your hot takes. I will share what happens here for us in Turkey 🇹🇷 Every school holiday my kids get homework. They get a book ranging from 30ish to 110 pages to complete during break. I hate it! The 100 ones are for summer break. I feel it causes so much trouble in the house- I have to ask, encourage, nag them to do it. I have asked my husband to talk to the school about it ( I can't because of the language barrier & I am WAY too passionate to not lose my cool 🤦🏼♀️ ). I remember doing summer reading and a book report- I hated it as a kid but I'm ok with that even as a parent. Not all schools have the homework packets here- but many do. I'm all for kids who want extra stuff- it can be provided and they can do it if they want or not (although that is more work for the teacher to prep). This is so relevant to my life right now- the kids went back to school today from 2 weeks off. Love your videos. Have a great week.
Always appreciate hearing from you, Christine! I just always want to ask people where their research is to support the homework thing. It doesn’t exist!
@@ElainaxStrongerSpEd I like to comment to support your channel. You do a great job! Keep it up!
I agree with you about homework and not taking gym away when they misbehave. Children need more than 1 hour of recess.
Agreed!!
Been in the classroom since 2004. First as a high school English teacher and then as a SPED teacher. I think a lot of the times, special educators have different views regarding some of the topics you touch upon. We have to take a lot more classes on behavior than most gen ed students (in my experience). You aren't wrong about anything you discussed. Keep teaching!
Thank you!! It’s a shame that we don’t ALL take these classes in behavior and have that training. Truth be told, most of my kids spend more time with their Gen Ed teachers than they do with me, so they definitely need to have the training and be equipped to make that a successful experience for ALL their students.
Hello! I hope and pray that your back starts to feel better. In the meantime just rest😊
Thank you! It has been a rough few days 🥴
Yikes! Back pain is the worst! Hope you can feel better soon. Seeing a chiropractor is a great move!
Thank you!! These last few days have been a struggle 🥴
I started out as a middle school special education teacher and am on my 8th year (it’s my second career after retiring from the military). I love my job (except for the soul crushing paperwork such as ARDs, data collection, progress reports, and documentation) but I will stay SPED till I’m dead! I feel like I make the most difference here.
I love that!! It truly is such a rewarding job ❤️
I love that!! It truly is such a rewarding job ❤️
I applaud you for your efforts to simplify. FYI. Your music is loud and your voice is low. Maybe there is a balance somewhere in-between?
Thank you! I’ll have to figure out why that is because it doesn’t sound that way when I edit it but I will look into that. Thank you!
Bravo! Happy New Year 🎆 A thing I do is I roll my yoga pants and my pj sets (they are like long tubes). I’m not sure if it gives me more room. I do that with sheets and towels too.
Do you keep them in drawers then? I tried rolling my leggings but they were too thick for the organizers I had. Maybe I just need organizers with bigger sections in them. The ones I bought were a great size for socks and underwear but nothing bigger than that.
@@ElainaxStrongerSpEd I have cubby sections in my closet- they go far back.
I put hangers in “backwards”’if I haven’t worn it in a year - I think do I need this…. I usually keep my stuff because shopping overseas can be tricky. I always have to stock up on my preferred jeans, bras, socks, and underwear when I go back to America for a visit. Great job! I hope you can relax on school break too!! Happy New Year!
I’ve used that hanger tricker before- works so well!! I’ll show you my closet in the next video but I don’t have many hangers left in it from the way I most recently tried to organize it. It’ll make more sense once you see it. Happy New Year! 🎉
@@ElainaxStrongerSpEd I asked my daughter if she wanted to go through her stuff toys etc. She agreed- so I had to strike while the iron was hot! We got 4 huge bags of stuff out to recycle to friends with younger grandkids. We will continue a bit today. Thanks for the inspiration. I knew it needed to be done but I am always putting it off.
@@christineaslan7101 Awwww yay!! Way to go!! I’m impressed. My son agreed to get rid of like 4 toys 🤣 Way to go!
The “I feel so passionate about what I'm doing but also emotionally and mentally exhausted and tapped out” is so real.
🥹 It was hard for me to accept that I could feel all those things at the same time. I always thought that if I was feeling burnt out then that meant I didn’t love my job anymore but I’ve come to realize that we can hold all those emotions at the same time and that doesn’t make us any less passionate or good at teaching. Hang in there! Sending you love ❤️🫶🏼
Sending positive vibes your way! Have a great week. PS I always love the music you have in your videos.
Thank you!! 🙏🫶🏼
Ed just realized I forgot to put that in there
