Welcome to my Garage! This is a KZread channel dedicated to chronicling the journeys of an average joe working on multiple automotive projects in his inner sanctum (a tiny garage). We aren't auto professionals here & certainly don't claim to be... However, we are always learning and are not afraid to jump in and try something new. Hopefully you come away learning something, be it what to do or what not to do - It's all about enjoying God-given creativity & sharing what we've learned & are working on with the community. I have several projects in rotation, first of which is my first car, a lemon twist 1972 Plymouth Satellite Sebring Plus with a few Roadrunner tribute touches. We are also big VW folks here with a few sand rails & buggies in project rotation. Last but not least, is our home-built Subaru Dragster being built for dirt/asphalt drags. Lastly, as a hobby pianist / accompanist (my "Cultured" side), you will likely see the occasional music related post. Enjoy!!

Cool, now the fun begins!
Nice looking machine work.
Great video!!!
Very much looking forward to seeing you again and that car! Now we need another VW for a callout!
Me too! Great news, I just picked up my case and heads from the machine shop yesterday!! Assembly begins this week! I'm all for bringing my current engine to the track to through-in if Ty would like to run his buggy.
@@culturedredneckgarage3784They are fun to R&I, especially without heater boxes in the way.
Dak Dak Alert! 🥝✔️
Great video
Love the rail! What cam is sitting there for the 1904? I’m about to start a build myself to get my other bug back on the road. Should be an interesting one 😎
Thanks Gary! It's a Scat C35 (basically the same as an engle 110).....Not too big or too small. I might've went bigger if I were using big valve heads (down the road maybe), but in the end, I just want it to be mainly a semi-torqy cruiser.
@@culturedredneckgarage3784 that’s a fantastic cam and better ramps than the 110 imo. I ran one in a 1641 years ago with dual IDF 40’s. I’m gathering parts now for Jawbreaker, she’ll be a 1760, 74x87 with stock heads and single HD springs. I’ll do minor port work maybe but all I have is a stock cam or a 110 cam and I want to run a stock 34/3 carb…. Stock cam it is.
@@VWJawbreaker That'll be a lovely little engine! As much as I love dual carbs, you really can't beat the simplicity of a single 34...set it and forget it. I forgot that I also need to open up the exhaust a bit and blend the seats on my heads once they get back from the machine shop - minor work that I hope I can get done in a day if I stay at it.
@@culturedredneckgarage3784 exactly, I feel they run better with dual carbs but this will be something simple my wife and kid can jump into and take off easily. I’d like to see you clean up the ports of you don’t mind putting a video out on it. We can always learn something from each other.
Hey, thats a cool bug! would you like to have a weber carb race? I've got triple 45 dcoe style carbs on my stock block 260Z. With how light the smurf is and that engine you'll probably just pull away from me.
As long as I can get them at least halfway tuned and running right...Absolutely! These carbs were COMPLETELY torn down and rebuilt - Lord willing, they'll run again ok, but you never know.
@@culturedredneckgarage3784 I'm pushing like heck to get my car to the first test session tonight so my car is unproven as well. This is my first experience with itbs and def don't have the special Weber tuning formula down.
@@SeanOBryanZZ I hear ya dude. I desperately want to get this thing to a test and tune at my home track before I get to Sikeston - that way I'm less likely to embarrass myself. lol. I've only dragged on dirt, so asphalt will be a HUGE learning curve....hence, I REALLY need the practice.
Great video sir!! It will be a fun time!!👍👍👊👊
Looking forward to it!!
A time saving idea indeed! Awesome! Blessings and respect!
Nice!👍👍

Great video!!!
Thinking outside the box…. Nice!
Sometimes we have to do that to get by!
@@culturedredneckgarage3784 absolutely, I rather enjoy it lol

Return of the King!
Nice 👍
hi...how i can get the bearing fag 530282
Thank you brother
Great information
Thank you for posting these videos. Like you, I am in the process of rebuilding a set of "new to me" Italian Weber 44 IDF 71's, so your videos were very helpful. If you don't mind saying, who did you use for a parts supplier? I have looked at Pierce Manifolds and Redline Weber. Just curious who you used. Enjoyed you piano videos also, you are a talented man!
Thank you so much for the compliment! I'm certainly no expert on these or anything else for that matter (as it's my first time doing so) but it hasn't been too bad thus far. I'm not sure that my videos really showed just how rough these things were to begin with, but they just about needed EVERYTHING that I could get out of a kit - with that said, I choose a kit from a carb supplier off of ebay. www.ebay.com/itm/272187155327 Overall I was pleased with the kit, especially with the fact that he was easy to work with and re-sent me a replacement part that had a defect. The only thing you might have to do is perhaps do a little bit of clearancing on some of the throttle levers with a dremel so that they fit....I had to do that, but it's likely because of the way the metal is stamped - no biggie. I ended up replacing my venturis and jets to fit my build, but I bought those from CB Performance. Best of luck with your build!
Thank you for your response. Sorry I am slow responding, but another project sucked up more time that I expected. I had not thought about looking on ebay, will dig around there, also. The Webers I was given were disassembled with parts in a bag. I am missing jets and have some parts I cannot identify on any parts diagram, so it has been a bit of a treasure hunt! LOL! Again, thanks for your response.
Again, I really appreciated your rebuild video. I ended up using Pierce Manifolds for my parts and they were super helpful and had everything needed. The carbs are back together and performing nicely on a 2-liter dual port air cooled VW.
@@andy6711 That's Great! I'm just waiting for my case and heads to get back from machine shop, and then I'm going to put it back together....fingers crossed on my carbs!
Great video! Where did you purchase the bearing retainer plate? Thanks.
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it! I want to say that I bought that plate from Weddle Industries the same time I bought the chromoly pinion nut. the part# is 9371 from weddle....but you can buy them from lots of other VW vendors as well.
I had a 3-arm pressure plate on the 1835cc engine in my 1970, and to swap that engine into my 1971 back in 2005 I removed the center ring from that, works great. Of course, I also could've just used the pressure plate on the 1971's engine.
Yep, we have a 3-arm or two laying around somewhere, and I’ve heard that you can definitely use it on both versions as well. I’m glad you confirmed that for me! Thanks for watching!
😂😂😂I got the stab sir!!I have some shoe goo if you need it!!!
I run a jet DR in my 44 on my baja. It hasn't clogged sense and i live in high desert and I drive it into the mountains every week.
Yep, I'm pretty positive that I will be installing them at some point in the near future - as well as a float bowl extension, so that fuel doesn't slosh out (been burned by that with dual single bbls before). Thanks for sharing your experience! It's nice to know that there's some success to be had with them.
🤣😆🤣😆🤣 Man when you said shoe goo I about lost it!!!😂 Great video as always brother. Keep up the good work!🤘😎🤘
😂I was hoping one of you would catch that - mission accomplished!! Thanks dude!
WE’RE BACK BOYS!!!
Very nice video very helpful thanks 👌👌👌

That’s the side of this cultured redneck that I really appreciate!! Thanks for sharing buddy!!!
That’s a sound that never gets old !!! Very nice. Thank you 👍👍👍
Thanks Tim! I love the jazz chords in that arrangement... it just makes for a happy-go-lucky feel.
Very cool sir!🎼🎵🎶👍
Thanks brother!
Great playing. I love listening to wonderful music like that. Thank you for sharing your talent with us 👍
Thank you sir! It wasn’t my best recording, but oh well, I’m not trying to impress anybody 😀. I’ll probably start dusting off some more to record here and there. Thanks for watching!
That was AWESOME MAN!!! I thoroughly enjoyed that!
Thanks brother! I pushed record on another song, and I’ll probably upload it as well.
On the old style pressure plate with the sleeve, should it have any play in it.
If you mean the "ring" on the old diaphragm pressure plate, I don't believe if should have too much if any. most that I've had feel tight with no real noticeable play, but I've had one that was a little loose. With that particular one, I once asked a professional VW guy the same question and he said that it's not supposed to have any play, but he'd run it if he had to. In other words it would probably ride on the throw-out bearing fine once pressure was applied.
great video, helped me considerably
Glad I could help! Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for this video. I did a t2 conversion on my 72 beetle. All went well but I had a definite rubbing/grind noise once I started. It. It would go away once I pressed the clutch pedal. I suspected it had something to do with the throw out bearing. I had taken off the guide collar from the transmission because the pressure plate would not fit over it. I also suspected the center ring would come out but didn’t want to screw anything up. The “ hack you showed confirmed what I was thinking that center collar can come out. Thanks so much. BTW bus motor in bug is nice.
Glad it was helpful! I was taught that hack sometime ago. While I feel that it's technically better to have a Kennedy or OEM style pressure plate that has a slightly more open diameter (meaning diaphragm fingers are more centered on the T.O. bearing), this will work in "most" cases so long as the diaphragm fingers ride on the T.O. bearing correctly. Good luck with it!
Been fkn with this issue for a year, and you just explained Have old style TB with Kennedy PP and exact problem You’re amazing now I can correct this. Do you suggest the sachs upgrade, who sells part number. Tks so much💯💯💯
Thank you, I appreciate it! I'm so glad that the info has helped you like it has. I currently have a couple of "late-style" TB applications and one buggy that has the "early-style" TB - I have yet to do the upgrade myself to my swing axle buggy (with early style TB). I might lean towards that if/when I do any transaxle work in the future to it. If it were me, I'd say that if your transmission is working fine, no input shaft seal leaks, and if you have a good early-style TB...I'd probably leave it alone for now and just run the early "ringed" pressure plate with it and have fun! There's nothing wrong with them as is, I just like the late-style center guide a tad more - but I've run them both ways with fine results. Kustom1warehouse sells the upgrade kit - but just let me tell ya, this kit comes with a new cross-shaft, and those things can be a pain to remove, especially if you want to keep your old clutch lever. www.kustom1warehouse.net/Throw_out_bearing_conversion_kit_p/113141165bconv.htm
Just going through this on my model. Cheaped out and got a $70 part, month later a PO172 popped up which is running rich. Bit the bullet and got the OEM Hitachi coming hopefully that solves it
👍👍👍
👍👍👍
Hope that bearing on the crank didn’t cause too much machining. $$$ The rest of it looks workable without major bucks . Good job !
I don’t think it did…or at least I hope. I’ve got to bolt the case back together today to verify that though.
Nice tear down. Good project … 👍
Very cool man.
Nice!!!
