This song is beautiful and timeless....it entered my heart as a child and will never leave it. Every time I listen to it again, even in this modern version, my mind travels back in time and reaches my childhood bringing back memories, images and perfumes from the 70s. If every life has a soundtrack... Mine certainly has this song ❤️

Make it work Make it easy Make it clever, craft it into pieces Make it sweet Crimp the edges We'll make it sour and serve with lemon wedges Even doubt Can be delicious And it washes off of all the dirty dishes When it's done I can smile It's on someone else's plate for a while I'll place it on display And then I'll slice and serve my worries away I can fix this I can twist it into sugar, butter covered pieces Never mind what's underneath it I have done it before I'll bake me a door to help me get through I learned that from you Mama, it's amazing what baking can do Make it up And surprise them Tell them all my secrets but disguise them So they dance on the tongues Of the very people that they're secrets from Make it soon Make it better Though, better never lasts forever I'll make it small so it fits Even this Even now Even as the walls come tumbling down Even as I can't stop remembering how Every door we ever made, we never once walked out Something I never got the chance to ask her about So with flour on my hands I'll show them all how Goddamn happy I am Sugar, butter, flour Don't let me down Let's see the next amazing thing baking does now

My dearest, Sara You are the most thoughtful, unstoppable female force with power and insight who always flawlessly paints pictures through your masterful lyrics and tender but, transformative arrangements to represent all the colors of this beautiful world. Oh, to be the brush in your hand or the canvas you paint upon. You are a remarkable human who makes us all feel your true heart with each note, each breath, each song. Thank you for not ever being afraid to stand up for what is kind and just, for showing empathy and spreading love and acceptance.

Beautiful song. Her vocal is angelic - feels like being rocked in her arms. This song was produced before 2005, so she would have been just a few years out of college. This is a perfect example of how Sara’s expression of the lyrics, which she puts a lot of thought into, elevates a song that could have been blah if sung by someone else. That is, the song’s main melody is not very dynamic, so it comes down to vocal expression to give the song life. The accompaniment is also very well done, which is unusual for a demo. We found a tender love it blossomed wild and free. Pure proof was in your arms when you were kissing me. I was an open book, you were an ocean breeze; rustling through pages I never should have let you see. Never should have let you see. Was I so wrong being such an open book? Trusting so soon, losing all the tender time it took to love you, just to crawl away with broken wings and the pieces of my heart still splintering. The pieces of my heart still splintering. Friend's asking where you are, say I misunderstood. I say he's gone away, but he's not gone for good. Speak of romantic plans we're looking forward to. Meanwhile, imagining you end up with someone new. Was I so wrong being such an open book? Trusting so soon, losing all the tender time it took to love you, just to crawl away with broken wings and the pieces of my heart still splintering. The pieces of my heart still splintering. It's surely over now, but how I ache inside. This ocean full of tears that I'm about to cry. You're sorry for this pain, yeah, that's not what you meant. I'm sorry too but my feelings more permanent. Was I so wrong being such an open book? Trusting so soon, losing all the tender time it took to love you, just to crawl away with broken wings and the pieces of my heart still splintering. The pieces of my heart still splintering. The pieces of my heart still splintering. The pieces of my heart still, pieces of my heart. source: www.lyricsondemand.com/s/sarabareilleslyrics/splinteringlyrics.html

I was thinking this sounded like a James Bond theme song - then I read these comments. Sara always nails it, so her intention is usually quite clear from the end product.

I love this song so much that I've ran down a rabbit hole of covers. This captivated me with the way you not only did the staggerd guitar of the vocal on the chorus, but your voice and those soft but controlled runs trills. Great job and thank you.

She actually just sang it for another songwriter, and you’re right it doesn’t quite sound like a SaraB song. Still beautiful, her voice can make any song lovely. It originated in MySpace from the songwriter’s profile.

Didn't know of this song until I heard the official version, so sad the full version wasn't release! I still hope it will be released as a bonus track or something, along with all the songs of Little voice serie sung by Sara herself. I somehow miss the word 'that' in the "It's just my little voice THAT I've been missing" sentence but anyway, it's a shame the bridge was lost :(
