came here from tims video, got a new sub from me. im curious why you keep referring to BG3 engine? are you talking about the cancelled BG3?

I am! Project Jefferson (which gave the Jefferson engine its name) was Black Isles version of a Baldur’s Gate 3. I’m actually working on a video about it right now so watch this space!

I remember when I was twelve years old and I played this gem. I thought it was cool that for once in a “Rockstar” game (I put quotations because it’s not really a rockstar game) you get to play as an actual legit good guy and fight against crime. I was also genuinely surprised by the writing and how every character seemed real and not black and white. I wish there was a sequel, but maybe it’s best that this remains the only game so that others hopefully see this game and play it for themselves. I think it’s timeless, and it’s quite the experience. I felt so engaged with the protagonist that the ending hit like a truck when it was all said and done.

IMO a Troika FO3 would likely turn out very similairly to FNV in quality (same issues with technical jank, same excellent writing). Maybe a bit worse gameplay wise (considering the poor quality of combat in VtMB). Troika I doubt would've lasted even with the Fallout license.

Like many who will probably be commenting today, I found this video because Tim Cain linked it in his video about the part he played in Van Buren's cancellation. I have to say, I'm really impressed with your writing, research and production values here. It's a crime you have so few subs as you do when you're putting out quality stuff like this. But you've got at least one more now! 😉 Keep up the great work!

It is sad that Van Buren didn't come out but thanks to its cancellation we ended up with the amazing Fallout NV. Remember that Titus Interactive the French publisher that bought Interplay was the same one that release Superman 64. Titus completely mismanaged Interplay and ruined what was left.

One thing Bethesda said they didn’t want was another “dead money ending” because old world blues was gonna have an evil ending where it ends the game as a whole and shows the legion got shot into space and a bunch of other wild weird shit that would’ve been great

To me, the ideal HALO movie is REACH. It’s a visceral war movie, and you can trim down the script to feature-length fairly easily. It’s just a great story, regardless of medium.

Bethesda made Fallout 3 one of my favorite games ever but years after I played that game I got my hands on Fallout 1 and 2 and realized that Bethesda completely missed what Fallout was all about. Fallout 3 and 4 are literally Elder Scrolls Oblivion just with a Fallout look and story, all mechanics are Oblivion ones. Reason why everyone loves Fallout NV over 3 is because NV has so many mechanics from the original games.

I really wish that when projects like this get cancelled, the assets would get released to the public. One of my personal favorite projects that was cancelled was Prey 2. I would have loved to at least see or get to play some sort of build, even if it was rough. So much hard work done by these developers just disappears because of the suits.
