Naust Eco Station

We are lucky to own a homestead deep inside the huge and unique Naliboki Forest in Belarus, where we live and simply do our studies on large carnivore species. We are putting camera traps throughout the forest to reveal some special moments from the secret life of wolves, lynxes and brown bears.

Why don’t people just leave the wildlife alone. They do fine without human interference.

Wolves don't care. They'll find another den and make more pupies. They have nothing to do anyway.

Most wild animals die a horrific death. 90 plus percent either starve during winter or are eaten alive by another animal. I seriously doubt human scent led the bear to the den. Bears are very keen. It’s likely the bear heard the pups or smelled them from quite a way off.

We all know bears are always looking for a chance to dig up any other creatures or will resort to cannibalism and eat another bear's offspring given the opportunity. Also, let's not forget the bear sniffer also smells six times or more better than a human's. So let's not try and put the blame on the folks who set up a Camera and filmed the outside of the den.

The human activity in the area, didn't lead the Bear too the Den. Cuz as they say it was already aware of that Den and the others in the Area. To Me this sequence of Video footage, is Excellent evidence of how the Animals interact with each other. The resulting death of the Wolf 🐺🐺 Cubs was tragic & Sad. Whether they were eaten by the Bear or they Died from Suffocating under the Dens Dirt Structure. The fact's are that, that's the Cruel Side of Nature being played Out, and We have too Witness it's Brutality on Film 📽️. Thanks for Sharing it with US.

Its not a nice thing to see, but its how nature works. Those wolves have done the same thing to other animals young, and will continue to. The bear was just doing what it has to to survive, find the easiest food to aquire and take it. For those lost pups there are others who make it and the cycle continues.

It’s kinda crazy how the wolves seemed to know what happened and that’s why they seem timid about the situation. I think they knew what was there and was now nearby.

You People have no idea what you are Doing. You Left a Scent Trail straight towards the Den. Bears have a Smell Ratio 4 times better than Wolves, so you Practically gave the Den Away when you not only Came upon it, but decided to Stop and Film for as long as you did. The Breeze carried your Scent Miles Away possibly to a Bear who then found the Den. Please don't be this Ignorant again.

I am a Zoologist and Animal Behaviorist. Not to mention I am Native American. It is possible that the bear was following your scent. Predators often follow the scent of humans in an environment where humans do not frequent. In Europe, especially, wolves go nocturnal when humans are around. Bears can see in the dark as well as the day, so in this equation the smell of humans is what made the wolves go nocturnal. The smell of humans lingers for many days afterward. I have done research on nesting Canada geese, just to come back a week later to find that I had led the coyotes directly to the nests of the geese I was studying. So, the most important "takeaway" from this video is that we allow for the possibility that we played a part in what happened and to not let it happen again. This is how we learn that we are ALSO a part of the Environment :) Thank you for the instructional video.
