Just changed my 4.6L intake manifold Saturday...found out this morning about this problem, luckily only a few miles from home...crazy they build this part with such a massive defect built in. I'll try this repair method and get back on the road, thanks!

I have a question after doing my TB30R, I noticed after it all went back together that the lower drive belt rubs against the transmission in gear 3 or below. I swore I must have routed it wrong, but it looks identical to yours. I can see @59:03 your lower belt is pressed against the transmission as well. Do you have any issues with it rubbing at lower gear? I've bent that wire bracket over to push it away as it will surely eat right through the aluminum. Any tips would be appreciated! Thanks for the video it helped me replace my belts. And I used MTD belts

Thanks for sharing your fix for this. Someone’s brain waves flatlined when they designed this. Generally epoxies and plastics don’t mix do using some epoxy that’s meant for plastic might be better and scuffing with an abrasive and cleaning with acetone might help the epoxy adhere.

I purchased a 320CCA, AGM battery UL1 through Amazon for $69.99 as it should start the mower better and faster and last longer than the standard 200CCA, Non AGM UL1 that cost about $50. I'm hoping to get double the life which would be 5 or 6 years. I remove it off season (winter) and put it on a Battery Tender trickle charger for maintenance while it is out of the mower.

Great video again. Thank you! I learned from doing the other belts) and your video) that this one would not require removing the deck. Anyway, the one thing I noticed that was different on my Tractor, was the spring placement. You went from the top in and down. Mark 8:25 My Tactor had that reversed and was fed up, which came from the manufacture this way and maybe does make better productive functioning sense based on the mechanism function in itself, that would hold better.

  • @Phillydispatcher

Okay, I'm on board with a shout out to you for this video!! You really straightened me out. I wasted a day trying not to do things, that you showed me had to be done. I finally, dropped the main pully and saw how I must loosen the other 2 pulleys. After this video, I was 100 % positive my belts, were the correct ones and also on the correct pulley. So, when I was all completed, and my mower wouldn't start (Acting like dead battery) I was convinced nothing, you and I did was off. So further troubleshooting (Battery fuse okay) on my part found that the switch sensor on the bed I dropped and cleaned, was not installed correctly. Again, thank you I was sure it was something like this. The rest of the story goes like this. She backed out of the Driveway, went into gear, and worked better than ever! Yes, I had to use a makeshift crowbar, and man handle the impact bolt, but once it broke free, it was easy after that thanks to you and your very detailed and well explained video. I appreciate you having taken the time. I only hope my reinstalling the same bolt with the RFT method holds good for awhile. :)

Based on years of off road motorcycle experience, putting "grease" on something exposed to a dirty environment causes the formation of a grinding compound, which will wear the parts faster than if they were left unlubricated. So when you replace this next time try leaving it dry & pls report back with another video.

  • @petedymond

The black plastic sheet was cut to shape using a jigsaw and sanded to make the edges smooth. Then I drilled through the plastic into the metal tube frame and pop riveted it on. I only drilled through the top of the tube, not all the way through if that makes sense.

the issue is the design of the units steering. it's complete garbage. the motor is good, blade is nice.. it's real comfy, but there are several kill switches built into it for some reason. the lower red plastic piece above the piece you took off has a kill switch in it for some reason. ive used my tb30r for a few years and the only significant design flaw that stands out is the entire steering solution. i was interested in the kit until i saw you turn the wheel after you installed it. same massive play in the steering, it's loose even after the upgrade kit.. a completely new steering solution is needed regrettably. good video.

@@petedymond I ordered the kit which cost 16.95 usd and it arrived the next day, installed it in 15-20 minutes taking my time cleaning up the front end area. Kit is a direct replacement and bolts on without any modifications. No need to be concerned with lining up the steering wheel to indicator, as you can adjust the steering wheel post install precisely. My troy-bilt tb30r handles completely differently now. The stock steering cost me a fence post and 2 mower blades. The kit steering is a vast improvement and makes the mower feel like it's got Cadillac steering now.
