It is easy to rip DVD onto the using hand brake, and you can use movies off of iTunes as long as you have it set to download the files in SD format.

Opening and cleaning it will help as will fresh thermal paste and installing the maximum amount of ram., and an ssd., Linux Mint Mate version should work well, as would Linux Mint Debian Edition 6 /LMDE 6.

There is a specific type of ram, what you need is ddr3 ram. If you want to be sure you got the right ram, I have seen specific listing for macbook Pro 2012 ram but you can also buy any ddr3 laptop ram modules.keep in mind that the max ram for this machine is 16gb

I ran Ubuntu for 14 years, but I found Debian a better fit for 2010 imac. It supported devices and wake from Suspend a bit better. I do want a core 2 imac to run my jukebox software, but they are too often priced like a collector's item. It's just an old system that won't do much, or it wouldn't be on ebay.

Any distro with a lightweight UI, like xfce or lmde... Even better if it is based on debian, like MX Linux (xfce version). It is a desktop-oriented distro perfect for low-resource computers. Right now I'm writing to you on an i5-2500 (from 2011) under MX Linux... and it flies. You can also customize the UI to your liking. It looks like a new computer. If you have any problems with the sound or hardware, try to change the Kernel to the Systemd one (not default). I think Mint also a xfce verison, but is not based in debian but on ubuntu. A little less optimized for low resources.

I’m having a problem with mine, I’ve synced my movies onto it but they all only play audio except for the one that’s in 480p. I know these are capable of 720p and im not sure what’s the problem. I think my files might be encoded wrong? I’m really not sure.

Handbrake 1.3.3 should work, from what I remember you have to use the ipod 5 quality and use the setting for the Apple tv.

When I turned the laptop back on it didn’t recognise the SSD so I put the hard drive back in and it worked again and the ram is working fine. What should I do about the SSD upgrade?

The old days when Samsung Flagships delivered an SD card slot, a Removable Battery, and a Audio Jack, also you can still get the latest android in the galaxy S III, just search it on YT, sure the phone will hit a limit when you'll upgrade it ( I mean it will be slow), but its still usable in 2023/24, and if you would like a mix with performance and compatibility then you can even install an old android in it, eg: Android Q (10), etc, so at least for me, I would say that its still usable in 2024, and "maybe" it will still be usable in 2034

As far as I know, this came on the scene before the apps were really big on iPhone/Android. I looked up videos on this on KZread. You can find a later model MacBook Air, but make sure that it is a year that is compatible with apps. You should be ok with a 2020 or newer model, possibly as far back as 2017... but research this first before purchasing the model.
