Do you have to switch betas every time you switch between playing on desktop/vr?
Not at all, if you wanna play desktop just close out of steam VR as the game is launching or you can choose normal mode when launching through the steam library or you can momentarily erase the -openvr or -oculus which doesn't require an install
im using the G2. my game constantly speeds up and slows down. not the frame rate either. the actual game speed. any idea how to fix this?
Sounds like a sufficient GPU but insufficient CPU. I am not too much an expert on that though so may not be it. Could just be an odd glitch or some other form of Lag. Look at your PC operating Stats
@@A_a_ron_4_RC pretty high end hardware. As high end as it gets actually. Only does this in vr. I saw someone ask about the same problem on steam community but it wouldn't load the page so I could read if there was a solution 🤷
AMD or Intel? NVidia or Amd. I would love to help ya but I don't know if you've got a 14900k and 4090 or something else. I know AMD tends to run hot. I myself am running a 4080 and a 13900k which handles this well but the game is not optimized for VR so occasional stutters do happen. May just need to balance out the graphics or there could be some heat issues or something else with the PC. I am not sure. There's a lot it could be, always keep an eye on your PC stats like usage and temps, those tell alot
4090 and 14700k. ive read people saying that they fixed the problem with the config file but none of those fixes helped me any so i dunno what to do
Unfortunately the 40 series cards have had issues but usually it's with frame rates not slowdowns. The 14th gen Intel are really good but I'm not sure what's causing your issue. Sorry.
nice. is there a way to send one's streaming platform's chat to the oculus headset? that way if you're streaming you can chat with your viewers? and has there been any changes to the setup from when you did this tutorial until the new 1.50 update?
Alot has changed but the basics remain the same. To get chat to the headset I use over toolkit. There's several videos on KZread for that.
I'm stuck, under the beta tab on the game the drop down box is empty. I tried opting into Steam VR beta and went back to the beta tab of the game, still empty. Need some help.
They just did a major change to the entire game so it may have changed. I tried playing last night and it was very different. I'll have to look into what needs to be done now to do it.
Yeah this didn’t work past step 1
Unfortunately if that much is going wrong I dont think I will be able to help. Could be literally anything. However if the only step being step one Opening Your Steam Library is all you were able to do then I would have to assume you dont own the game because I think everyone who owns the game can open Properties.
Using Vridge, put the openvr in launch options, started the game then refeshed and still not showing in the config file pls help
So you need to also make sure you go into betas and also select VR beta and latest version. If it still doesn't come up then go to the standard non beta version and switch into the VR OpenVR beta again.
i did everything you said i should do, and in notepad there is no setting for openvr. do i need to restart the pc? am i missing something here?
You either have to enable the beta VR, wait for the update to finish, launch the game once after doing the steps and then go back to it. I don't believe there is any setting called OpenVR in the settings. Unless you are referring to the -openvr in the launch options then in that case you have to type it in. The notepad config settings is under documents, American truck simulator
When i use my splitter on my eaton 18 speed, it opens a steam menu. any ideas?
So i notice that the video is pretty choppy and jerky while youre in VR, is it that bad while you're actually playing it? Or is it like that because of recording?
I was running on a 1650 at the time, now I've upgraded to a 4080 and it's made a big difference. In game was better than the recording but barely. If you have a good GPU 3070 or better it'll be fine. Almost nobody would ever be able to even get this to work on a 1650 so I don't know what magic I pulled.
Cool, do you know how to use reshade in this VR game?
I don't use Reshade at all, is it good?
F11 not f12 work
That's a strange thing that it seems to be different for some people for some reason.
im using valve index it loads up but when i load my save it crashes this makes no sense at all my steam dont even have the option to disable theatre mode when launching the game
That's a completely new one to me. You should have an option to disable theatre mode but I can't remember where it is in the new steam VR menu. Also note too that with this setup steam VR has to be inactive when starting the game. You launch the game and with the special launch option of -openvr it'll then launch Steam VR with ATS or ETS and hook.
@@A_a_ron_4_RC it’s usually shown in the general settings tab when I hit preferences after right clicking on said game but it’s gone and just says delete where it used to be I have never seen this option in steam vr settings

I've always done it right in VR I didn't know the other route was an option. Thanks for letting me know
how can i get rid of the menu of the map, towing, etc?
Unless it's been remapped F2 should be the route advisor window and F3 should be toggle mirrors and F1 is to pause and esc is of course the menu
i have been trying this on the quest 3 and for some reason the passthrough turns on so any white spots in the game i can see my screens and its really annoying
If going through oculus you may have to turn off a setting. I don't know for sure where or what it is exactly but I bet it's defaulting to it. Steam shouldn't do this at all I wouldn't think. Give me more info and I'll try looking into this
@@A_a_ron_4_RC i figured it out it was a setting on virtual desktop to allow passthrough i just never noticed it
Oh, ok good to know. Didn't know virtual desktop update to allow that now. That's kinda cool and I bet it's useful in some things
make sure you launch the game after you put “-openvr” and let it refresh if you aren’t seeing the open vr options in the config file. then close the game open the config file and it should be there
It should initiate a game update with the proper files installed when you select beta options. The Launch options just tells it which program you want to run the game in and has no effect on game files. -openvr just simply launches Steam VR while -oculus will launch Oculus VR when you launch the game.
setting up now again i did this probally a year ago but got annoyed with how far away i was from the steering wheel could never get it going properly thanks for video will try again here..
Got me going in VR in an easy to follow and straightforward way which I prefer. Only thing that threw me for a second I found the solution in the description.
The whole -openvr and -oculus thing, yeah I forgot to mention that in the video but the whole thing happened so well I decided to leave it out but turns out a lot of people actually use oculus still which kinda surprises me since it's much more limited compared to what you can do with steam.
Okay I'm done all the right things but I don't know how you opened that box and then after that when I was trying to hit f11 earlier it didn't do anything.
Open what box?
No thanks vr looks like it would give me a headache looking at two screens
It's not for everyone. This is for those who want to
@A_a_ron_4_RC ok but why do you have to look at two identical screens
VR is like binoculars, you don’t perceive two images. It’s a single image in the headset.
They aren't identical, slightly different. This is because our eyes are spaced apart so when we see things it's at 2 slightly different angles which is how we can see 3D and perceive distance. VR emulated this very well, it makes the game more immersive for those who enjoy VR and some people can't handle it like you said with the headaches some people also get motion sick or dizzy. I play in VR alot because for me the head tracking is very useful.
@nickforst7816 lmfao.. smh 🤣🤣🤣
i know this video is a little old but been the most detailed ive seen. im again attempting this. but the game isnt launching in vr mode. what do i need open on my headset for this to work? i have virtual desktop open but it just displays the game in a regular desktop veiw in the headset
I recently had an odd issue with this and may need to make a new video. I don't have time currently to do so but, Are you getting the Steam VR Client opening? When I played the other day it would put me into the Steam VR Client and it would go into theatre mode for the game. I have to manually close theatre mode before the game fully launches. I have not found a fix for this yet. Using Virtual Desktop you want to make sure to run in OpenVR mode, under launch options you want to type " -openvr " no spaces, no caps just the dash and openvr this will tell the game to run in the Steam VR mode, it should automatically open Steam VR with the game. If it doesn't try opening steam VR first and then launching the game. If the game doesn't sync with the VR you have to press one of the function keys, I can't remember but I think it was F11 but it may have been F10 or F12. None of them do anything damaging but one takes a screenshot, another is the mirror modes and then the one you want is toggling or refreshing the syncing with VR or Desktop mode for the game.
@A_a_ron_4_RC I finally got it going, just need to close steam vr because it says it crashed. So that worked. Just trying to get the settings dialed in so I'm not getting choppy game play when going into cities
I ran this game in VR on a 1030GT and had a solid 24FPS at well below HD I don't know what res I was running but I felt accomplished when I did that years ago. The lag in a city was bad. Non VR I would play 720p 30FPS and it was smooth. I then got a Logitech Wheel and shortly after got pedals. Then instead of a phone and riftcat I got a quest 1 and virtual desktop. Then I upgraded my GPU to a 2070super and had a lot of issues with it so I got a refund, seller didn't want the card back and I got a 1650, I don't know why but that ran fantastic with VR for a few years and then as the game updated it didn't. It's not VR ready but it can do it. Now I have a 4080RTX 13900k a whole slew of VR headsets from HTC to Quest to Rift and a fully equipped racing rig STILL equipped with the same Logitech G920 I got years ago and that has way more miles than my 15 year old POS GMC Envoy
Wasn't expecting to see myself already here, nice. (At 3:27 I appeared)
I didn't know it was you. Glad you like it
Im waiting on switch version
Thanks for sharing these tips, ill be trying this out soon. Im excited to run vr for ats
I hope it works for ya
i get all sorts of issues with openvr, works when it wants to, crashes steam vr when it wants to, fun
Sounds like either a weird bug that requires a reinstall of steam vr or you should be using oculus or maybe apc spec issue.
Not sure if something changed recently but I'm not finding any lines in the current config.cfg file that have openvr in them or even a line with interleaved in it. I'm trying to get the game to show in vr. on an Quest 2. I can get it to show in theater mode but if I make it go to vr my scren stays in the SteamVR room but I can only hear ATS running on the headset while it shows on my computer as a regular screen, not split. HELP!!
I know one of the major things is when restarting the game you have to remember to close out of steam VR. For some reason the game won't sync with the VR if steam VR is already running. Another is if you are using airlink or oculus link you need to use -oculus as your launch in properties instead of openvr. The other thing is if you use virtual desktop you need to have it set to -openvr for your launch options. I hope this helps
Do I need the oculus controller or can I use just a regular game Controller
What's nice about ATS is you can map any input device you want to into the game. So if you use a controller you can still use a controller while in VR however my favorite way if it is within your budget is to use a whole sim rig.
@@A_a_ron_4_RC thats truly another huge tutorial also to setup i got steering wheel everything 2 years ago it was one major major pain to setup in ats
Yeah, someday when I have some spare time I'm going to do a wheel and pedal setup tutorial
My friend, you skipped like a whole chunk of important stuff like Graphic settings in the game lol. And SteamVR settings.
SteamVR settings are something most people will set up themselves for the VR use. Also there are tons of videos on that, not specifically for ATS but that's going to depend on your headset. The in game settings are going to be depending on your PC Hardware and what it can and can't run. So there is no universal settings for everything on these two things. This video is simply how to set it up for functioning VR and everything else is dependant on your own rig.
@@A_a_ron_4_RC gotcha
Is a rtx 3060 ti strong enough to run a quest 2 in ats?
I have in the past been able to run (barely but still was able) ats in VR at 30fps on a quest 2 and a 4590 CPU and 1650GTX 4GB and 16GB of DDR3 on an H87 motherboard. So if I can do that on a desktop built from scraps, I feel like if you wanted to put the work in you could do it. Also laptop vs desktop makes a big difference. The laptop cards don't have the same bandwidth as a desktop card. The 3060 desktop would run it but I have seen issues on a 3070 laptop. All comes down to what you wanna make it do.
@A_a_ron_4_RC yeah my complete setup is a ryzen 3600, rtx3060 ti, and 32 gigs of 3600 ram. 3200 or 3600 I can't remember off the top of my head. Also a b550 asus motherboard
Kinda midline which isn't bad at all, you don't need a super computer to run this game so I would say you're good.
@A_a_ron_4_RC awesome thank you for your help. As sson as i get my quest im gonna follow your video to the t .Keep up the great work.
@@1972lesteryan i have same rig setup as you it runs decent but the ultimate vr and steam games would be having that wopping 4090 lol ya .. 3060ti can do allot but often gotta lower are settings for vr
Damn cant believe they filmed me without my permission 😭
XD that's funny
is there anyway to do this with a cracked version of the game
That I would not have an answer for as I have a legitimate copy from the steam store. Since you've figured out how to obtain the game in such a way and know how steam will do an install of the VR version, you may have to find the other version (VR version) in a similar place where you got the 2D one from but I do not recommend pirating the game by any means. I have also heard of people using the term cracked version as a nodded version and in that case if you got it off the steam store and just modded it the process should be the same as described here.
haw do i recenter im in the passenger seat??? i have htc vive
Hi, I'd recommend changing some of these settings. Especially for a G2 headset. In the config you have the repro set at 0. It should be 1. Then to get that to work, you then need to start the game with option two... The one that mentions DirectX 11. Then it works great. Looks smoother and cuts down on the jagged lines on Overhead power lines etc. Hope this helps
Hey thanks a lot for these tips, I learn new stuff on this all the time.
@@A_a_ron_4_RC We're all learning new bits all the time. I've a 4090 card and ATS in VR still struggles in areas. It wasn't really designed for it from the start. Still, great fun
Part of that isn't the GPU performance but the game itself struggles with the VR. It's some sort of syncing problem that occurs. It's much worse in multiplayer, both Truckers MP and Convoy mode. I've seen some really weird glitches happen when there is nothing there. Like a train stuck in the middle of the highway with no tracks around and my friends said they've never saw it.
What is repro? I don’t see that in the config?
That's screen reproject most likely. It should be there but I recommend leaving it at 0 unless you are have specific issues that lead to that. Every headset could be different with that.
Do you play using Virtual desktop? Could you give me your settings for that? Quality, bitrate, hz, aws enabled or disabled? And if on link if you could give me those settings? Also, you have your buffer scale to 1.5? Trying to play on my rtx 4080 and struggling with lag for some reason. Thanks!
Ok so recently something changed where 1.5 does lag alot. I had used 1.5 on my 1650 without issue and now they've changed something. However there is now an in game setting for scaling and I find that works better. The game has changed and will continue to. Leave the config at 1.0 and then use the in game and see what you think. As far as settings for my Virtual Desktop app which I do use. Some of those are dependant on your GPU and some on your Router. If you have a 4080 like me you can do the highest graphic related settings in VD but you'll find that it stutters a bit even with a great router. I put my settings up to the max and then brought them back just a bit on the things I wanted to sacrifice a bit of quality on. As for the connection settings VD has made it so you cannot exceed your routers capabilities and you can max that out if you want. However the sacrifice of doing that comes with your battery life and potential for increased stutters and latency so I basically put my bitrates at 3/4 of what my router can handle to allow for a buffer there. However if you don't live alone then you might wanna go even lower because of more devices or you can learn how to use a PC hotspot designated for your headset. I am currently trying to learn that and it works so well except it keeps lagging alot every 15 seconds and then is perfectly clear. Latency is almost nothing but those occasional frequent stutters are killing my gaming experience.
Hello, when i play ets in vr i get a lot of moving edges when i drive the truck. What i have to do to make it smooth? And another question: What setting do you recomend to play ets on quest 2? 1:in oculus app , the display at max and in game 100% resolution? 2:smaller display in oculus and bigger resolution ingame? i play on a rtx 4090 on cable and 120hz. I ask because i play with some mods and i have in between 60 and 40 fps with the first option. and if i dont brother you can you make a tutorial with how to make the game look good and without losing fps?like changing some options on oculus app or an application to optimize the game?
I do not know as I do not play ETS or ETS2 and this tutorial is for ATS specifically, However from what I can tell the process is very similar and if it was ATS I recommend leaving your settings where they are. I dont know what you mean by edges moving but I am guessing its like signs bouncing back and forth between 2 spots which happens for some reason and youll just learn to ignore it. I barely notice it now. Its something to do with reprojection but its mainly something with the game itself and likely wont be fixed unless they focus more on the VR aspect which they might if more people get into VR for this game.
try to turn off Asynchronous Spacewarp on Oculus debug tool
Didn’t work for me for the new update I can’t figure it out
I will check this out, they usually have ways of messing up stuff just right. I haven't had an issue with it yet but I do have it set up already. Any details you can give will be great.
How do you toggle that map in the beginning?
I have it mapped on my wheel it's a setting in the key bindings
It just displays "waiting " on my headset:/
That would more than likely be a pc that can't run VR well. For this you should have at least a 3060 to run on lower graphics. If you can run other VR games fluently this could be wrong but it seems as though it should launch but your pc may not be up to spec. Otherwise you may be overlooking the F10 toggle to display in the headset.
@A_a_ron_4_RC it was a mix of both. Apparently it will launch on my monitor then i have to toggle f10! Ty so much for this video. The vr really makes this game shine brilliantly!!

@@A_a_ron_4_RC I have issues, I have a 1080. But I can run the new microsoft flight sim well. A little glitchy with realistic graphics lol
You likely just need to turn some graphics settings down. For a 1080 I recommend medium on a lot of reflection and quality settings and high on other things.
