    I've never seen Scholes do any of this ...Work rate of the gods , can score from any range , can tackle , can pass ...Only problem was his supporting cast weren't even Championship level ...That forward line was beyond garbage and the defence with Jamie😢 ...

    He was so far ahead of everyone in that team. Mad he chose to stay when he was surrounded by shit like 90% of the time.

    *The tragedy of Michael Owen is, he only knew one way to play: Race at defenders with supersonic speed, completely leave them flat footed or lying in the dust; the goalkeeper mesmerized, while he rounds them all and slams the ball into the net.* The crowds went wild and his Liverpool, Real Madrid (initially at least) and England managers loved it too. They kept encouraging him to play that way and unfortunately they never trained him in other aspects such as, one-two passes, crossing, heading, fake runs etc, nor did he learn himself. Speed running was the only way he knew. Unfortunately, doing this day in and day out blew his hamstrings and he was never the same and could not regain that speed. He therefore slowly devolved to mediocrity since he knew no other way to play, unlike other speed demons in their prime like Arjen Robben and Cristiano Ronaldo. Other speedy players knew other styles besides racing at defenders and leaving them in the dust and scoring, while poor Michael Owen only knew that one way. Poor guy even hired speed trainers, but his legs never allowed it again. I blame Liverpool and also Real Madrid for not fully developing him and overusing him in his youth and completely blowing his legs out. He could have been a legend and a world-class player, talked about for generations to come, if only he had better managers, in his formative phase. 😪

    That decision to take Gerrard off was the ending of the golden generation. With Scholes retiring from international football and Owen being on decline England never had the quality afterwards.

    Comment on this if you like everyone, but I would advise not to feed the trolls. Everyone that knows footy has praised Stevie G again and again and again. From Zidane to Jose Morinho to Thierry Henry. Paul Scholes when asked recently to speak about Gerrard he said he didnt think he could do what Gerrard did. So dont get too upset about a random person on the internet. Hopefully one day they will see the light and educate themselves so that they attain so more footy knowledge.

    The fact that this guy contested and won the Ballon Dor makes me disbelieve in the seriousness of these awards😂

  • @5593doug
    @5593doug4 ай бұрын

    Ballon d'Or wasn't the biggest award at this time, it was FIFA World Player of the Year. Then in 2010 the two merged and Ballon d'Or became the top award. So in 2001 Michael Owen won the Ballon d'Or, but Luis Figo won the FIFA World Player of the year. Also in fairness Michael Owen was a goalscoring machine in the first 6 or 7 years of his career. So it's not unreasonable for him to be recognised for it. That year with Liverpool he also won the FA Cup, Football League Cup, FA Charity Shield, UEFA Cup and UEFA Super Cup.

  • @alecwaddy

    Scored twice away to Roma in the UEFA Cup - Roma won the league that year; single handedly won the FA Cup in a game Arsenal dominated; was in devastating form during Liverpool’s run in and scored a hat-trick in Germany’s back yard when England weren’t a particularly great side. He was definitely the best player in the world that season. I’d argue that winning the European Footballer of the Year was more meritocratic; not just a popularity contest.

    When he had mascherano behind him he was able to play the number 10 role without worrying too much about the players behind him. I still think he was best as a box to box but this video is a great example of what he could do as a 10.
