The name God is like the name dad. This also applies to the name Lord. So one has to be specific as to the God they are talking about. Some people do this by talking about the God of the Bible. In the Old Testament He is sometimes referred to as the God (Elohim) of the Israelites. The word god means a deity that is worshipped. Some Christians often refer "god" with capital G i.e. God is the One of the Bible. It's much better to refer to Him by His name. The challenge is that Christians also refer to Him by various names. I think the problem started due to 2 reasons. 1/ In ancient Israel, the public were not supposed to mention the name of Yah (using the short form here which many agree on) in order to avoid using it in an unholy manner. Only the priests were allowed to mention His name. 2/ When Israel went into captivity, their captors prohibited them from mentioning the name of their God (Yah). So in the process of time people forgot how to pronounce the name YHWH since it didn't have vowels. The pronunciation used to be passed on from generation to generation by the priesthood.

The Bible says that there is no name, other than Jesus, on which we are saved (Matthew 1:21 & Acts 4:12), so we shouldn't be calling The Father "YHWH." "Jehovah's Witnesses" turned the Hebrew letters, "יהוה" ("YUD HEH VAV HEH"), into English-letter equivalents, "JHVH." They then added made-up vowel sounds & came up with "Jehovah." They don't deny Jesus, but they've moved their emphasis away from him & onto the word, "Jehovah." "YHWH" is not supposed to be considered as the name of God (The Father). In the old testament they had faith in obeying the law, today it is faith in Jesus. In hebrews 10:26 today a presumptuous sin is not the same as willfull sin spoken there. Wilfill sin is to go back to the law and reject grace on purpose.
