A 2011 documentary film about Lehigh Acres, one of America's original postwar boom towns that became one of the hardest-hit communities of the economic crisis of 2008.
I built a house in lehigh for 100k in 2005. Sold it for 250k in 2006. Got lucky.

15:10 This shows the serious problem many owners have during a bust...trying to get yesterday's value today. They list for a price a little too high, wait for a buyer as values continue to fall until their listed price is so obviously high even they see it. They then reduce to the price down to today's value, but values continue to fall so their house is instantly listed too high. They ride that strategy all the way to the bottom. Then when the market turns back up their house sells for less than the market value. Sure way to sell at the bottom.

3:20 "Nobody predicted a crash." There were many who saw a problem, but almost no one listened. Which is why a bubble formed and got so large. A bubble can only form when most people refuse to see a bubble. Which is why today a bubble can't form because many people think there is a bubble and a crash will happen any day now. A paradox most refuse to see, which is good because that refusal stops the bubble. Human behavior. Twisted. 14:06 Boy oh boy this dude loves to say "everybody". A sure sign of moronic thinking. We came to Florida on vacation from the Chicago area in 1977. We were in Tampa in the motel and my father got a phone call to come down to a place and check it out for a free night in the hotel dinner of course. Well, the sucker bus took us to Lehigh Acres and they bought a 1 acre lot for $7,000 that was probably worth $500 at the time. Long story short we moved down here in 1980, it was a boring but decent place to live. We came on those sucker buses you were talking about. First homes and Fort Myers closing down the projects killed Lehigh Acres. I moved out and 17 because I didn't feel like shooting somebody because they try to mug me or Rob the place I was shopping at. With all that stuff going on rents were skyrocketing from 1300 to possibly 3,000 a month for the same home we are in since 2017. Moved to Lake Placid Florida, what a nice place to live

I used to live in Florida, and was there when the housing bust happened. Fortunately, I was able to sell the house for a loss but recouped my loss by moving to Arizona. Since 2012 when I moved from Florida, the house I live in now has doubled in price. Lets hope we don't see this sort of loss by people in the future. If you cannot afford a home don't buy one and then take out money from it to buy stuff. This is how so many people had their credit ruined by not managing their money and assuming their house value would continue to go up. The agents talked about a stable market and things will get better. Now years later, housing is getting scary again.

The difference in this market versus the market in 2008 was people got loans that should have never gotten one. For me I bought 10 years ago, not this year. The prices have dropped some but not much so far. So many people in California are continuing to come to Arizona as California has gotten way more expensive than AZ. IF AZ is in a bubble and tanks, the whole country will tank if the housing market is like 2008.
