Reel Analysis

Reel Analysis

The goal is to move toward truth, one step at a time, providing clarity on the mysterious symbols in film. What is the point? What is the big picture? What is the large scale structure? Why tell the story? These are ultimately my driving questions. These questions are relevant to storytelling in general so on occasion we will exam classical literature, ancient spiritual texts and myths as needed to elucidate the point and the structure.

    MoS is a good litmus paper test for those who really know the character. Outside typical mainstream media like the TAS, the donner films and other cartoon. When I hear those haters back then whining about how "depressing", "dark" or how "superman never kills", that's a good sign these people never picked any comic book.

    If there is a Grand Design and you can communicate directly with the designer, then should one not ask the designer if they designed such a feature? If they did design such a feature then it may be worthwhile searching for it. If they did not design such a feature then what is the point in searching for the Grand Design?

  • @ReelAnalysis
    @ReelAnalysis Жыл бұрын

    This is no judgement on other's proclivities toward such a thing but I only speak for myself when I say, asking directly feels profane and unnecessary. I'd rather listen to the authority inside my own heart. Why I don't ask is because I already know there is a design, I don't need to ask. I trust my heart and my heart tells me what I need to know. I think most people in general feel this natural tendency. You don't really hear people asking filmmakers or storytellers "what's the secret point and structure of your movie?" Director's and other Artists or storytellers won't and shouldn't answer such a question but should evade it at all costs. I guess that's the practical reason for not asking because I expect them to rightfully evade the question.

    @@ReelAnalysis I am working on a spec script for Wonder Woman (codename "Rebirth") so I constructed Diana's timeline from BvS through to ZSJL; plugging in everything she does and everything that happens in the story world. Based on this basic homework, and when ZS says ZSJL is supposed to take place, I'm convinced that there is no grand design at play. There are just too many things that are wrong. Do the homework yourself if you don't believe me.

    BvS, I believe, is about our idolatry of pop heroes, the Watchmen of the World, anyone with this kind of Godly power that we project ourselves onto. We forget that we all have a responsibility to look out for our brothers to the left and right of us. We're not excluded from that human duty. We see this with sports stars: they wear colorful, iconic logos and we all fill the stands and bow to them as they "entertain" us. When we cheer for them, we're cheering for ourselves. It is like East Coast Hockey fans or European soccer fans. BvS attempts to examine that relationship we have to superheroes in modern culture.

    I believe Snyder's films have a pattern to them, especially so with the knowledge he drew everything before shooting them. I like when you mentioned the shifting of world consciousness because it mirrors how I felt in 2015 after witnessing Snyder's dedication to the universe he was building. I genuinely believe the films Snyder produced would have been a major cultural reset and, like you mention, a shifting of world consciousness that would've triggered another renaissance era comprised of driven and creative people inspired by the messages and iconography in his films.

    Parts one and two of this video, I think, are your strongest, and best support and thesis of Snyder’s DC movies! The way you tie together the themes that are all present, and yet just below the surface for the viewer is immaculate! Your use of Nietzsche, and Jung are so succinct and while I haven’t read much Eliade I’m sure you have tied in his work equally as well! Bravo!

    wow, you gave me a whole new perspective on that original sin, its so simple, its not about the apple, its about distrust in Gods word, until now I was always focused on the apple and knowledge gained from it, but now I see that by choosing to eat the fruit, the man is declaring he knows better - he is idolizing himself, thus the fall - I will try to not idealize you (for both our sakes) and will continue to look for the truth even by myself, but you are an immense help, thank you very much

    The ancient myths have a lot of wisdom. The elites (i.e. those obsessed with wielding profane power) know this. The false flag Operation Ajax (Ajax is one of the Greeks in the trojan war) from wikipedia: According to the CIA's declassified documents and records, some of the most feared mobsters in Tehran were hired by the CIA to stage pro-Shah riots on 19 August. Other men paid by the CIA were brought into Tehran in buses and trucks, and took over the streets of the city. Between 200 and 300 people were killed because of the conflict. Mosaddegh was arrested, tried and convicted of treason by the Shah's military court.

    Wow! I see you don't hold back. Certainly, BvS has a metalanguage that reflects more than ever the current global social and political conflict we are experiencing. About the phallus as the representation of progress, it reminds me of the symbolism that Kubrick used in 2001: A Space Odyssey. There we see the black monolith that the phallus represents as a perspective of the tangible, primitive, extrinsic, solid and impenetrable for our limits, while at the end we see the same black monolith seen from a complementary perspective, a vulva, something that represents a portal , totally intangible (not solid), but essentially and paradoxically penetrable from a nature in which humanity transcends and is reborn, hence the "space" baby that returns to Earth as if it were its mother's womb, to create a paradox in which could be interpreted the first appearance of the black monolith through this. Nolan did something similar with the end of Interstellar, since it made a lot of allusion to Kubrick's film.

  • @ReelAnalysis
    @ReelAnalysis Жыл бұрын

    Nice! Yes! Awesome observation. I can see the juxtapositions between penetrability and impenetrability, phallic and vulvic monolith paradox.In general one might interpret its rotational character as capturing its ever changing nature, a continuous change of perspective from vertical to horizontal and back again. The well known octagonal layers visual can then serve to represent that paradox simultaneously as a monolith in all its perspectives, vertical, horizontal, and both diagonal directions.

    14:11 I never understood the hatred of how Jimmy Olsen was portrayed. Outside of his name, his role has no bearing to his comic counterpart. Only comic fans know of his significance. If you just watched the movie, he's just Lois' replacement partner for one scene who ends up as a casualty. Compare that to, say, Lady Deathstrike in X2, who is nothing but a mute lackey for Stryker, so you say "I wish there was more to her character" (as in there's very little backstory given to her compared to Jimmy in BvS), then you read the comics/do research on the character and you find out how badly they were adapted.
