    Why shouldn't you use bonding coat in a bathroom? What should I use instead? I've got holes I need to fill where base layers crumbled in places. Bought bonding coat as doing chasing in other rooms

  • @macplastering
    @macplastering2 күн бұрын

    Any where there is damp bonding is not good as it has fermacalite in it and that holds the water really well so if re doing a bath room kitchen it's best to try use sand cement or possibly hard wall might be better alternative but sand n cement be the best long term again sometimes bonding is only option on jobs hope this helps some

    Any tips for rendering the reveal at the top overhead a window. Is there a different mix needed to the side reveals. It can be hard to get the render to stick overhead. How can stickiness be improved

  • @macplastering
    @macplastering2 күн бұрын

    I use same mixes as mentioned again you could use a rule / Batton nailed on and build down in layers the timber will help it stay there as its an edge to help hold until the render is set hard .... you can add more sbr or a little more mortar mix but it isn't necessary , also something like a hp 12 can be a little more sticky again can all be be done with these mixes in video

    @@macplastering thanks for reply. Windows being rendered to a bead. I might experiment with SBR. Trying to build down a scratch coat first. I have had some success with a 4-1-1 mix. I rendered overhead about 250mm - 300mm from each side or as much as it would support itself. I then filled in the middle part today and it held. However the finish coat will need to be done in one go, but will not be as heavy. Overhead Gravity is a challenge HP12 looks a good product on paper at least. Might try that.

    You videos are credit to you! I have worked on building sites for 20 years and would class my self a all round skilled labour, even as a site manager. As someone who is now plastered my garden walls. Large Georgian Pillars, I did use SBR in my scratch coat but had some serious filling out todo to get pillars plumbed and squared. I didn't use beds rather used straight edge/rules stop ends. I have really enjoyed the plastering experience, shocked at the levels of propriety work needed. 2/3rds of the work. Applying plaster is the 1/3 of the job! Setting up > mixing plaster > plastering

Thanks for the mix ratio guide, always hear mixed views on that but we do 3/1 4/1 like you’ve said. I think the thing we haven’t done is used a poly carb float, we use a trowel then a sponge but when it’s painted you see the undulations. Thanks again Matty

    @@macplastering Always tape up dolphin orange tape great tape. Thin plastic. Windy could be a pain so easier poss with heavy visqueen. Glass protector pain in the ass and dust or wet so end up tape it anyways. Sheet plastic just covering glass 2inch wide right round covering the frame most pvc at times still has plastic film left on frames. Window sills the orange tape across them all nice and snug. Find pretty quick to tape them plastic on sills more snagging trowel or that or a rough loose bit plastic. Don’t do much wet dash mostly just dry dash and k rend mono here and there. Wet dash back to question fuck yes am bricky to trade don’t have the wet dash down to a t yet wouldn’t be as accurate as your self most definitely. lol. Plastic tape window done correctly never nothing to clean 1 second to whip off. A get what your saying if bit tape to far into frame pull can end pulling a bit off. That’s why a tend covering myself as too letting the labourer do it lol. Never use the k rend pre mixed wet dash mate ? What best general ratio wet dash 4 stone 2 sand 1. Cement ?

    The wire lath and and pvc beads are what are used here in Florida over wood frame areas of houses, most of the homes are bungalows block So only gables and small areas get the wire, great job mate 👍
