New Year's Eve 1979. I actually remember where I was that night, and who I was with.
@jedtulman4615 күн бұрын
I also remember being in Central Park and celebrating the decade change by dancing in a circle w strangers and my friends .
Pretty much anything after 1982 was boring, The Way Up Tour the exception, of course. Thanks for the upload, though.

How about all the great classical composers. Their music is still playing now and forever. Great music like the PMG will be loved forever. Not like the garbage of your 'new music' now. All the greatest music has already been written and played. You can enjoy the trash that's currently duping society as talent. Grow up!

Jazz Bootlegs, Thanks so much for posting this live show. I started listening to the PMG in 77', and had attended 20+ shows. First Circle is my all-time favourite piece of music. I first saw them perform it live at the Grand Opera House in Wilmington, Delaware, when it was current. The most exciting piece of music live I have ever scene or heard. At the conclusion, the entire house erupted, and all sprang to their feet. I'd never seen anything quite like it! Pat Metheny is my favourite musician/composer; but there was nothing quite like the Pat Metheny Group 'Live'! Again, thank you for posting this show. As great as the studio recording are; there is nothing like their live performances! RIP Lyle Mays. You will never be forgotten! Jack Hetherton

Setlist: Into the dream Have you heard? A story within a story Follow Me How Insensitive First Circle Imaginary Day Heat of the Day Across the Sky The Roots of Coincidence Too Soon Tomorrow Third Wind (shorter version) Are you going with me? Message to a friend September 15th To the End of the World (they dropped this later during the tour) Encores: Minuano 6/8 (without the intro) Stranger In Town (also dropped later during the tour in favour of Song for Bilbao). Only song not performed was The Awakening which only made itself into the set at the first couple of gigs in a very short 4 minute version and was not really working out to their liking (Pat would actually claim it was never performed live but some recordings exist).
