Great lesson! I do not understand why the Lydian scale in 'C' would include a sharp 11 (F# Sharp 4) I was thinking Lydian is the 4th interval, so if you are in 'C' the 4th interval is 'F' and not F#... so what am I missing? (Other than common sense)
@@kennethschweighardt4920 the Lydian scale or mode is actually derived from G MAJOR. Hence the F#. It’s the 4th mode of G major.
@@rufusbass Thank-you! Makes sense

thanks for sharing Rufus
Just got your five video bundle... keeping me inspired to practise my man
@@Basstandsforbasic Right on! 💥💥👍
Fantastic lesson, thank you Rufus! Lydian is such a beautiful mode to work with. ❤
What a fantastic video from my favorite youtuber have a wonderful day Rufus also i cut my wrist when my family was sleeping with a knife after an argument with my mom ❤😢😊
Often times I find that my knowledge level is not up to comprehending fully what you're teaching. This lesson was different, however. For some reason when you were explaining and demonstrating the Bm pentatonic intervals over the CM7 loop, it seemed to click and fall comfortably into place. I'm going to hunt down a CM7 drone somewhere on the net and then work on some lines based around the Bm intervals idea. Thank you.
Great lesson! Thanks 🙏
the wal song ;-)
I love the sound of Wal basses... they sound.. FULL.. That's the best way I can describe it
This is gorgeous
what a beauty!!!
Jaco Pastorius
Puts me in mind of Percy Jones of Brand X
Ooh lovely, unmistakably Wal ❤️
Absolutely fantastic have a wonderful weekend rufus also I cut my wrist when my family was sleeping in the morning ❤😊

Thanks
Thanks for supporting the channel duncan1386!
good , thank you very much !
I need a Spy vs Spy tshirt now 🎸
CAn you share your method of amp, fx setup for this kind of sound on fretless?
The thousands of times I thought to myself “man Jaco would’ve sounded great on this tune or with this band!”
Great to see the voicing, some of which I had not thought of. Excellent , Rufus. 😊
I love this tune and how you break it down with modal playing...I have to really think about this stuff hard initially. But its worth it.
That bass has such a sassy growl
I bought that VHS and the book with it. I have to admit that it went Waay over my head ... Whoosh! 🌬🧠
On an improv context, I've found through the years that linking the arpegios with enclosures and or passing notes, is a far stronger tool than just going at it on a mere scalar fashion. It is a part of the work that as improvisers and given our instrument and its main function, we rarely get to use these things, and they do take a ton of work, because it's in the depths of these minor modes (harmonic minor also), that we get to unveil a fk ton of language and secrets to the fretboard, and everything in general. But, good news is that all that nerdy effort pays well and pays a lot, and relatively fast too. Great lesson, watched it all just for the sake of checking your method out, real cool and interesting. Cheers
So gooooooooddd!!!!
Thanks Rufus 🎵🎶🎸☕

Man that shit was beautiful you are a great player I would love for you to redo the Lydian thing from journey to love and slow down those licks and call out those notes the jazz bass was singing I’m glad I discovered your video

You're a scientist
Great lesson here, thx
Always loved this album and of course "Modern Man". Sure wish I had the opening chord changes to the tune following "Song to John pt.2" "Concerto for JaZz Rock Orchestra". Not sure but I seem to recall the late George Duke or Stanley himself on piano. This post was very informative. Thx 🙏
been waiting for the album "rite of strings' to pop up on spotify but it never happens... great version of the song on that album. jean-luc ponty on violin.
