Shipwrecks and Sea Dogs tells the stories of the most tragic and infamous maritime accidents in our history, and of the captains, mariners, and people who shaped that history.

There were already auto-generated captions (Click on CC on the KZread player) but they were not very accurate. I went through and typed them out manually for the radio transmissions at the beginning of the episode. There were a couple of spots I couldn't quite make out.

Everything about this accident is eerie. Everything.

Driving over the north span, looking at the broken south span, was super creepy. I was still a kid but I remember being in the car, looking over at the broken bridge and being terrified.

Best explanation to date. I did hear that their is some toxic material on the ship and a sheen has been found coming from the boat. No idea if this is true, so take my statement with a grain of salt.

I believe you are correct. Since this was published, more information came out that perhaps "something" is leaking from the ship. There are definitely hazardous materials on board. Time will tell the real environmental impact.

Just listened, sorry it took so long. I think he really hit the nail on the head. This story is really interesting but you don't see movies or whatever because it went down so fast there simply wasn't TIME for (sorry if this sounds disrespectful, I don't mean it in that way) the drama and theatrics of say Titanic. I also think the fact that it was Titanic's maiden voyage vs Empress' 96th made for catchier headlines (that's just my thought anyway) Anyway, thanks for this! It's not so talked about and to me that makes it all the more interesting

It was also overshadowed by the outbreak of World War 1. But you're right, it is one of the worst maritime disasters of all time, and almost never discussed.

Great channel, great stories. However, this guest has the irritating modern habit of saying “kind of” as a preface to everything he says. Because of this, couldn’t listen anymore. Will keep checking out more videos on this channel.

given that the ship was mostly made of wood, is there going to be much/anything of the ship itself to find? I know other artefacts may remain, I'm talking purely about the ship itself
@shipwreckspod2 ай бұрын
Shipworms likely have decimated the wood of the ship. But the wreck hasn't been found so we really don't know.
