coulda easily happened!
The Creeper Returns is one of my favorite blues instrumentals (and I don't play harmonica!). I also like Mark Hummel's cover and I even managed to figure out the guitar solo played by Charles Wheal. As always, great lesson and excellent choice of material!
thanks a lot! yes Mark plays it great and always has a great band
very nice playing, Johnny!

Hi Johnny, your weekly lessons have been a joy since I came across your channel beginning of this year. I really do look forward to each new episode every Monday ☺️do you have any idea where I might find the „Lost american bluesmen“ album you were referring to? Can’t find it on Discogs or any of the streaming platforms… 🥴Many thanks, Frederik

Very nice. Love the recording space too.
Thanks Robonzo!
That Hayes Ware album is one of my al time favorites. Billy Branch plays so deep 👏
His tone and choices of parts to play knocks me out!
@@JohnnyBurginBlues Totally agree. Best i've ever heard him play.
I've been working on this song for over a month, messing around, wondering why certain notes work, or don't work. why does the C work, for example (it's the flat 3rd of the tonic, the flat 7 of the 4 chord) when going from 4 to 1? That's Mixolydian resoluton from 4 mqj pent to 1 major pent (the C resolves to C #) Also, what about the F? The F that punctuates the 4 chord in the melody as it descends from the 5 works as a secondary dominant device, perhaps. It's a flat 9? I was also wondering why 6 to flat 7 seems to resolve some progressions. That'll be 13th's maybe, somehow serving a secondary dominant role in resolving the progression? I still don't understand it, but the penny is starting to drop. I know understanding these secondary dominant resolutions (understanding how to mix major and minor pentatonic forms), is the key to opening up my improv. This is my mission; I've had enough of guessing the color tones when I improvise, guessing notes to try and spice up the pentatonic framework, and failing. I think I'm going to make it lol. It's coming. Thank 's for this lesson; it has been a gateway. I love the teaching style of show not tell. The song itself (the linked version) is absolute genius from Lightening. He had total control for this take. I'm not going to stop till I get this tune down. Peace to all!
@@lingao5271 wow! Keep persevering!
Wow
Thanks man!
Really loved this lesson. Lots to learn. Form the rhythm to the lead. You make it so clear when you point out the shapes/blue notes. Thanks man!
