    great flowers. You have some very nice ones. I've never seen a variegated catt before. I do see some mite damage on it but you might want to ignore me on that opinion. It's the kind of opinion that got me banned from missorchidgirl's channel for example - she does have a very trigger happy finger. Some people prefer to just not hear about these things. And they are so small it's practically impossible to eliminate them. Then there's the people that would say rubbish, it looks super healthy. So yeah take it all with a pinch of salt, I am super OCD. If you are curious to confirm it, pretty much the only way to spot mites is to inspect the plants in the middle of the night when the lights are off with a flashlight. The mites hate the light and during the day they will hide inside the pots so you will never see them. They are also ridiculously tiny sort of the size of fleas so very very hard to spot them and even if you spot them it takes months to get rid of them so its not a popular thing for people to hear about and would rather just not hear about it. Still as an indoor grower I wish someone had told me early on. So I don't know how you will take it but if you are curious in any way or form, inspect the plant, but particularly the roots in the middle of the night. Shine a flashlight on them and blow on the roots gently to see if you can spot anything moving. It's ironic when outdoor growers say that they are envious of indoor growers cause we don't get pests but indoor plants don't get rained on (and flushed regularly) and indoors the conditions for breeding are ideal leading to big outbreaks I have had to deal with. The subtle signs the plants show - which is why I am mentioning it - are signs nobody ever talks about and act like they are completely normal. But saying any of this never makes me very popular so I shouldn't really be saying it. Still, like I mentioned I wish someone had when I was showing my mite infested plants online and everyone always just said "wonderful" Good luck with the digbyana. Yours looks really good. I've been trying to get mine to flower with no luck yet, definetely harder than an SVO hybrid. Yours looks really good but it also still looks a little small. Mine is much taller and still hasn't flowered for me. By the way you need to get some more angraecums. The rutenbergianum has a really unique fragrance to it. It reminded me of fresh peppers when I first smelt it. Sort of a musky peppery fragrance, like a spice cupboard smell but with an undertone of floral notes too so like a spice cupboard but much more alluring. It's a unique fragrance for sure but really pleasant to smell it. Still waiting to smell my didierii here. No luck on that one yet so can't compare them yet. Looking forward to your july blooms.

    Thank you Tom! I love angraecums! Angraecum aloefolium and Angraecum urchianum are both on my short list! Sometimes I mix it up and use things like a pinch of Epsom salt with a couple drops of seaweed extract or cal-mag. I've heard that new roots are more sensitive to fertilizer so I always spray the top roots with filtered water. My tap has a pretty high ppm (90) even after using a Brita water filter. Just a pinch of water soluble fertilizer can raise the ppm to 300 for 4 cups or 1/4 gallon of water. I've also heard that fertilized water at different PH levels helps orchids absorb different nutrients, but I try not to stress too much about all these things. If I see fertilizer build up in the pot, I flush with plain water until it goes away. I would only foliar feed an orchid if it was outdoors.

  • @OrchidsByBryan
    @OrchidsByBryanАй бұрын

    That’s a great fertilizing routine, Joe! And 90ppm is pretty good for tap water! I would love tap water that clean here! ;) haha yeah, i have a lot more to learn about fertilizing because there are so many effective strategies! I’ve been trying to keep a tally on the fertilizing that my orchids tend to like best and perform well with. I’m starting to get into Lepanthes so I have to be much more cognizant of water quality and fertilizer. They are sensitive little plants! :)
