    Here I bi-amped my vintage high sensitivity JBL drivers. Used the Coolbreeze for the highs and the LM for mid and low. Yours are not high sensitive but no problem for the Line Magnetic. The Coolbreeze rates 10W max., which could work in a smaller room. But maybe a higher sensitivity is needed.

    The "Dirac On" certainly is a good guidance, in which direction to go with the passive crossover. The drivers you are using are all widebanders and relatively easy to tame with a passive network. 👍 Once you are running out of ideas what to improve on the passive x-over, then it is the right time for the Dirac fine-tuning.

    Great video, thanks! Some questions: Do the smaller drivers (Fast 8 or 10?) sound smooth and balanced without a notch filter? With a crossover are the F18's used as bass drivers? Without a crossover is it not a disadvantage that you do not have a single point source any more?

  • @PietjePuk181
    @PietjePuk1813 ай бұрын

    They do for me. The f8&F18 are used in parallel, full range; for greater soundstage so to speak.The f8's are placed more backwards in the board compared to the F18. Only L-padcontrol for tweeter and f8. Have used W15's for the low end but a sub in my setting turned out to be better. It was after splitting the left and right powerleads in the amp during several upgrades that I found a very clear and defined sweetspot coming from the centre of both speakers like I was used to with my enclosed speakers. So in my system open baffle does not lack in details/3D imaging of instruments and voices compared to the conventional speaker. If any it is more open. But what's in a word :-) And naturally room correction is quite essential.

    I’d like to suggest you to try 6L6 or 6V6, cause they sound like a more crisp EL34. And of course every time someone swaps tubes he must tune an amplifier to use a proper working point. Like an optimal current, plate and the second grid voltages. A second grid voltage for instance can add more 2nd or 3rd harmonics depending on a tube and a value. A working point location itself defines a total distortions level (as well as an output power). So, that’s a pretty long road to an ideal sound )

    cool system! I have a prima luna integrated amp. Into which I have tube rolled 6L6GC power valves and in fact today have just ordered two 5751 driver valves. My problem is that I can use a term like "driver" or "rectifier " but I really don't understand the different roles they play . My next experiment will be the rectifier valves ( currently 12AU7's) once I have run the new 12AX7 replacements' for a while. can you give an idiots guid to explain their sequence/functions? also any 12AU7's you recommend. I have a carefully chosen system capable of giving me what I want so my search is for the texture of sound not necessarily to improve it, but as you might guess from the valves I have chosen already I am looking for mid to top clarity First time viewer, just subscribed . PS if you feel knowing my system is helpful before you can give advice I can list it.

  • @PietjePuk181
    @PietjePuk1814 ай бұрын

    I am no tube expert nor an electrician. Just a hobbyist. I can tell you rectifiers are used to convert ac to dc so as such can do 'something;' to the sound. They are not placed directly in the signalpath so therefor have less influence? Again I am no pro. As fas as the 12au7 goes. I now like The Psvane art series but have heard good things about the gold Lions.

    I have had my Lii F15s in my living room, on a 2x3 foot mdf, 0.75, for a month now. The F 15s seem to be a speaker that many of us had hoped might show up. I am wondering if the addition of the Fast8 disturbed the Holographic nature of the the F15 by itself. I have seen yourself do the combo with these two drivers, and Hifi Cave has done it, also. He seemed to love it also. I am using am up firing tweeter on each panel, and this definitely helps introduce more highs into the mix. Thanks for your videos.😄

    Good point. I just did but that was okay. Have orderded new Belton tube sockets, springs in the stock ones I do not trust. The factory by the way knows of the risk of burnout resistors of the occasional socket from earlier experience when I got a faulty one.

  • @DonnieMulligan
    @DonnieMulligan5 ай бұрын

    @@PietjePuk181 The only reason I mentioned it was because in your other video, you said you ran the woofers in parallel which knocks them down to 4 ohms and it looks like you added a tweeter. You might be averaging below a 4 ohm load now. Some 4ohm amps don't really handle 4ohm well and things start going wrong. Your demos do sound nice!

  • @PietjePuk181
    @PietjePuk1815 ай бұрын

    @@DonnieMulligan Still nice of you to mention it. I am aware of the resistordip here. So yes, could be an issue there but only with the tweeter. Both main drivers are 8 ohm, connected to the 4 ohm output on the amp. I never drive them on high volume so normally with tweeter with an Lpad added it should be okay. But what is normal nowadays ;-)
