I have used the Buck omni 12pt (392) for 15 years. I love this knife! I've carried here in Wisconsin Montana Colorado Ontario and in Africa! It has never let me down and is always sharp! Love this knife just wish I had a better sheath!

Nice job. The original retention strap catches on the knife everytime I reholster....I like your mods. Seem to fix this.

I have a schrade 52 and I noticed that the sheath blunt the knife, especially the upper part. Strange because it's plastic. I've polished the inside a bit and it's better. But this is strange.

I like to oil my leather before its dyed. Then another light oiling after the dying is complete. This makes the leather pretty shiny so don't rub on it if you're going to take it into combat hunting or things like that.

Bellies are cheap because it is the worst piece of leather on the hide. It stretches, doesn’t skive well and is very weak when compared the rest of the hide.Having said that they are great for beginners Because if you make a mistake You are not wasting a good piece of leather. Also if you are doing something that requires you to form the leather over something it can work well because it stretches. If you use it for things like sheaths or holsters don’t be surprised when the fit is very loose after a while The reason bellies exist is because industry would rather pay a higher price per square foot and have the tannery or wholesaler remove the bellie instead of doing it themselves and then having to dispose of them. They are fine for a lot of small projects just be aware of its limitations.

Lol, I picked up a schinken Messer just like yours from a thrift store. Sharpened it up on my tormek. Burr was hard to remove as you say. Junk, but I'll give it away to food service charity. They can use it till it dulls, and then garbage it.

Dipping half the cotton ball in candle wax works great ,,, half soaked half dry,,,, even better is cotton balls half dipped in bees wax,, it burns way longer,,,, remember only dip half in so you have dry fibers to work with,,, or you could dip the cotton ball in about 80%, but remember leave the top dry 👍

I kept most of the blade liner from the original sheath, then drew out paper templates to cut out the parts in deep brown ox leather. I made the new leather sheath to be just the length of the knife blade, with the liner tacked in with a couple of nylon stitches. I then used sandpaper on the edges of the leather to smooth it out, and presto! I couldn't rely on the original sheath, I tested it right out of the box and it tore with just my hand strength, on the riverbank that is no good. I double-stitched the leather with boot stitching (super strong nylon thread, 1.5mm) and used a brass latchet button and a slit-hole in the retention strap to secure it. It's been 4 years and my custom sheath still looks mint. I do like that you were able to reinforce your original sheath, but that wasn't an option with mine. But hey, they had to do some cost cutting somewhere, I guess the sheath was the scapegoat. Good mods. 👍

The Buck 119 was the fist knife I purchased while in the Air Force and ended up giving it to my grandfather because he loved it so much. After returning to my base I looked for another one, but they was all sold out, so I got the 120 which had a longer blade and still have it after many years of owning it. I purchased a 119 from the Buck store last December and had my name put on it since I plan to keep it.

Hey DeanO, I'm totally new to knife sharpening and I've got a KME kit on the way along with their full set of lapping films. Firstly, I'd like to thank you for all of the awesome tips you've put out into the world regarding knives and sharpening. You and Rob at the Apostle P channel have helped me out immensely. I haven't yet watched all of your videos but I'm working my way through them. My KME set should be arriving tomorrow and I know I've got more than enough stuff to achieve an amazing edge on my knives. Now, I'm trying to set myself up with whatever I'll need to maintain my edges between sharpenings. As of right now, I plan to do one of two things. Either order two of the KME kangaroo strops along with the 0.5 and 0.1 micron CBN emulsions OR place an order with Stropman Strops for a leather strop and some green, white and possibly red compound. Can I not really go wrong with either option or is there an optimal way to maintain my edges?

I bought a lot from HL and each time I got just what you shown, few good pieces, as I got more into leather work I got smarter and bought from tandy, they are high but it's the way to go if you make lots of projects, if you do buy from HL pull the staples and dig into the bag and see what your buy'n before you pay for it, a couple bags I got way back I got burned and got useless leather good for nothing.. I hope this post here helps someone out as well as your video also

Hey There - its me again lol. I was watching your video again lol and I had a couple of questions. First I was wondering why you chose copper rivets instead of Chicago screws and second is I think I heard you say something about using Loc-tite and was wondering where you used it and why. Thank you again for such a great video. Watching it over again is giving me the confidence to try making a sheath similar to this one. Thanks and have a great day

I may have missed it but did you explain what thicknesses of leather you used ? I noticed some pieces were thicker or thinner than others and am wondering why you chose the way you did. By the way I am totally in awe of your talents and skills. I want to make a custom sheath like this for my son but am clueless as to all the different things that go into it. Any advice you could give would mean the world to me. You see I’m disabled now and my son takes care of me and I want to show him my appreciation. Thank you for such a great video.

He's not on Facebook and the last I heard about Tom is he was learning to walk again. I honestly believe it's going to be some time before we hear (if we do) from Tom again. My understanding is Tom has a long ways to go to recover and needs this time to heal without the influence of Social Media. I hope this helps
