    I loved the concept of this book, time traveling body hopping mystery solving sounds great! But my god, the execution

    I enjoyed this book, but I do agree there were some issues with it. I love it when you dislike a book I like and I get to see the other side of the argument!

    Hi rachael have a question for you. What would a book need to have for you to rate a 4 or 5 stars? What are you lookong for when reading a book amd how to do you go about choosing the books you read?

  • @ReadswithRachel
    @ReadswithRachel53 минут бұрын

    How I choose depends. My patrons often choose what I read. What I’m looking for within each book depends on the books genre and which age the book is intended for. As far as what a book needs to have for me to rate a 4 or 5, i have a whole playlist about books I like on my channel here: kzread.info/head/PL8iTZglTD3CWI8XGMCnc32it6h3q_ZDJr&si=uHUve5wHkNnHYpvP And the majority (12/20) of my most recent 20 videos are ones where I talk about books I like, 3.5-5 star reads.

    A Christian with schizophrenia here. I'm glad i chose the medical rather than the charismatic route. I lost count of those "loving" Christians who told me i had a demon. Now i have no truck with charismatics. I'm a happy Baptist. About those "loving" Christians, I forgave them but keep a big distance between me and them.

    Christian novelist here. The reason why so much Christian fiction/art is so bad is because too many Christian artists confuse for example writing a novel with preaching a sermon. All too often the story is shoehorned into a sermonette with predictably unsatisfactory results. Also i find too much Christian art is vanilla and anodyne and lacks the requisite levels of grit most adult readers look for. Grit may be hard and uncomfortable but it's necessary for the pearl to form.

    Atwood was pretty famous before the adaptation. She was respected in more general/ literary fiction circles and not pigeon holed as genre. And sadly, in the 80s and 90s that still mattered a lot.

    I feel like one thing that always bothers me when hearing excerpts from these books is how giving full paragraphs describing the LI every single time they're on page completely decimates any possibility for romantic tension imo. idk there's something about the slow reveal of details as characters get emotionally closer that rly sells it in a way but having to hear about how hot and sexy someone is literally constantly just takes me OUT

    Dexter is a book series also! I read the first book a very long time ago, and the author is almost scarily good about portraying the mind of a serial killer.

    A voice in the wind was the Francine Rivers book I found as a teen Christian. I was really into historical romance at the time. I don't want to read it again but at the time I read the whole series. I'd be interested in a review from you to see if you think it's less harmful than redeeming love or the same or more so.

    I think a part of the reason why you thought the characters in the Little mushroom were flat , it’s because the differences caused by translation,I have read both the Chinese and English versions of this book,It is undeniable that the English version did not reflect the vividness of the characters in the Chinese version. So if possible, I hope you could read the Chinese version someday and you will get a different view on this book(of course it’s impossible). But I still want to correct your misunderstanding on this book, also I agreed a part of your opinion on this book.

    My friend loves colleen hoover books and its reading that 4 horsemen of the apocalypse series. Iv read a few and i just gotta ask. Why are we glorifying relationships of sexual violence in young adult books? Iv been in abusive relationships and these books have made me need to contact my therapist. They arent romantic their genuinely concerning that young girls ars glorifying this kind of "romance" i would be crushed to ever see my friend treated like the women in these books. Its not kitch. Its not romantic. Its not fantasy. Its abuse. Its messed up. And it absolutely should not be something these authors are allowed to glorify to young girls that dont know better

  • @ReadswithRachel
    @ReadswithRachel12 сағат бұрын

    I guess I would need you to be more specific on which books you specifically talking about. This book that I’m reviewing here doesn’t have any sexual violence in it. And I’ve only read two of Colleen Hoover adult books none of her young adult books. But as far as glorification goes, the issue with that is that most of us cannot agree on what constitute glorification versus presentation. I am very hesitant to use the term glorification because I know that the book banners in my county go out of their way to call everything glorification when it is simply being presented

    28:29 I definitely read it as Mor being bisexual, but not biromantic. I have this bad thing where if I start a series, I have to finish the series. This was probably the series I struggled the most with when it came to that. I had to take so many breaks and several times had to call my friend to vent about the books.
