    Absolute clown take on India, because of course it doesn't mention the part before Britain shows up. I would have loved to hear Friedman evaluate the Moghul Empire.

    I disagree with Mr Friedman,slavery in Britain existed before the Roman occupation until the 11th century, clearly this dude was protecting the system because he highly benefited from it.....

    He could have noted that the slave South was less economically industrious and wealthy than the North. Tocqueville noted that there was less energy in the salve states. He observed the difference between Ohio and Kentucky. The Brits were savage in colonial India. It deserves no apology.

    The United States is nothing but colonialism. It has forgotten what land it stands on and how much wealth it possesses. Does it need more than nine and a half million! Unfortunately, it is necessary and therefore the world suffers

    I think since blacks are a minority in the US, it doesn't make sense that a 10% minority, enslaved by the 90% others, accounts for the 2x or 3x per-capita GDP of the US. Slavery of a 10% minority can account for ~10% difference in GDP. That's before we get into what those slaves actually produced (agricultural products) vs what brought wealth (the industrial revolution).

    About people migrating from so-called socialism to capitalism: GDR had to build the wall to stop the hemorrhaging population into West Germany.BTW Lenin called the Soviet economy "state capitalism"; only Stalin started to call it "Socialism".

    Misleading information. Britain had slavery in all its colonies especially in Africa and India whose free labour enriched it. So is Japan which enslaved the Chinese to enrich itself. The Western World has enriched itself out of both slavery and resources stolen from other countries of the world!

    I disagree that no colonial power benefited more economically than it cost them to maintain their colonies that is such bullshit and any honest historian knows that

  • @ashe1996
    @ashe199621 күн бұрын

    Yeah it was clear he was being dishonest. 1. why would anyone build a colonial empire if it cost more to maintain? 2. How could an empire afford to grow if you already have colonies? 3. Just because he throws the word "free market" into the interaction between Britain and it's subject states, doesn't mean it was a free market. And it doesn't mean the colonies didn't lose that trade deal. This dude is straight selling a religion.

  • @ztonthebeat

    @@ashe1996 I rejected this type of religious invisible hand bullshit when I was studying economics in college for the fantasy it is... It is a rationalization for the current system of exploitation and we only allow it when it benefits us, see agricultural subsidies in NAFTA or our new tariffs on China to compete with their higher production or lower costs

    The wealth accumulated by Britain was created by the most oppressive slavocracy in the western world - in the Caribbean. Not until 1838 were slaves freed in Jamaica, and only then because the enslaved population was so difficult to control. Unbelievable as it may seem, the British government paid REPARATIONS to those British citizens whose slaves (property) were freed into the mid 1940's.

    Hitler was inspired by British colonization of India and repeatedly cited it as a paradigm and a model to be emulated. He was also inspired by the European colonization of Americas ans the Native American genocide. For example, Hitler once said that the Spanish have erected work camps in Cuba and British in South Africa and that he wishes to build work camps "for all sorts of parasites".

    What is Milton talking about Britain didn't have slaves? Britain bought and sold humans into slavery over a century (1660s-1800s) and even continued the practice in the colonies until decades later (1830s). That's not including their subjugation of other peoples like in South Asia.
