I purchased a 717 new in 1978. Had it with me the rest of my life until it failed. I recently moved and instead of looking into the value of these i assumed they weren't worth much anymore. Didn't know there were restoration services out there at the time! Through it in the dumpster. Now i am crying!

Great review. These speakers use Dayton Parts Express drivers worth under 200 usd for a pair , if they did offer a knock down cabinet with 40usd worth of crossover parts these could be buildable for around 450usd !

Hi Tee Jay. Thanks for your review on this amplifier. I live in the Caribbean so I cannot demo audio gear and I think you are the only reviewer who can assist since you own both amplifiers. I was looking at the galion TSA 75 vs dual mono schiit vidar2. I know you mentioned in the video the galion is a step above the vidar2, but how does it compare to dual vidar2? Thanks again

@staceymangham class AB circuit has not changed much in 50 years ' Sansui does have a very very complicated circuit and it's a DC amp meaning direct circuit no opamps or caps nor intgrated circuts in the signal path was rated the highest freq response in 1978 from 0 Hz to 250khz !! That's unheard of today !!

@@tee-jaythestereo-bargainph2120 That's some amazing history I believe you can hear the lack of op amps, integrated circuit's and caps in the signal path in the Sansui. I'm still using a modified pioneer A400 series 1 that was designed with short signal paths, Ultra linear circuit, no tone controls, split Alps volume control, big beefy power supply, they even picked the metal material on the inputs and outputs for sound quality, apparently gold was inferior. I ran two of these in a bi amped setup but always thought the A400 was bloomy and a little loose in the bass, and it turns out it was in the power amp section not the pre amp so I use the tape loop output, as the pre amp in it is so good, bar the phono stage which is acceptable but a far cry from an outboard stage through a line inpu that I use. I use a big heavy, powerful Technics integrated with 2 very big fancy frame transformers wound with oxygen free copper, and a direct power amp input that bypasses the pre amp, it has a balanced input but I use the single ended RCA, this is a fantastic combination and has given me many many years of enjoyment. The Sanusi sounds a lot like this in the high frequencies, I'm not sure about the bass through U tube, and wouldn't expect it to match the bi amped combo. But the A400 is very transparent and crisp, i can't tell through the Tube if the transparency is there but the tonal balance is very similar so I like the Sansui a lot

IMHO Polk 703 destroys my Kefls50meta ' that's subjective though ' but 703 is a beast can't wait to finish crossover upgrade from GR research ' half way done big job !!!! But look how it measures on Danny's channel ! His 1st video of 703 competes with his extream series !

Bro I have it dialed in stage blew my friends away yesterday 703 one of my Favs ' When I sent to GR research I put a note in the box telling Danny that I don't have 100k in measuring equipment but these will be one of the best he has measured I already knew spectral decay was going to surprise him and sure enough it did 'these speakers can disappear in the room !! Cabneit is so well made not even the new R-Series nor Legend series measure like LSIM Master Polk audio ' wish Polk would bring them back it was there one shot of going high level and they flew under the radar 😔 😔 But the LS50meta didn't!! And 703 levels above ls50meta not even close Just being str8up ! 703 sound like a Tower Speaker

I love the full black finish of the Sansui. I know that era air amps in popular bc of the silver finish ( Yamaha ) or the champagne color too. But the smooth perfect all black is sooo nice. One day I’d live a Yamaha AS-2100…..black. Love seeing the Sansui.

YEAH I WOULDNT MIND HAVING A SILVER ONE LOL THE As-2200 was actually retuned preamp section to be more for the European market shocked when I found this out ' the 2100 actually has the El transformer that's know to be warming sounding over Toridal on the As2200 food for thought 😆
