How do you judge if your grip/release is correct? I mean aside from the obvious of it flying right, like how do I know that I'm throwing and releasing correctly on discs with different flight numbers? It's just been sort of a feel, and I'm getting the basics of stability, overstability and understability, turn and fade are pretty simple, glide is straight forward, but finding the right throw for the different combos of numbers is definitely an adventure. Please tell me there's an easy test method. I'm thinking of just going to an open field and throwing different discs to see how they fly on different speeds and grips
@EricJenkinsDiscGolf3 күн бұрын
For all my power shots I try to throw at 70-80% power. You want the disc to rip out of your hand for every shot that isn't a short approach shot. Field work is your best bet, throw everything in your bag flat, on hyzer and on Anhyzer. This will let you see how the discs are flying for your armspeed. If you are "grip locking" the disc flys crazy right and off line then that is caused from rounding and not necessary your grip. Grip should be firm but not too tight. I over grip and then relax my muscles in my arm to find my optimal grip.

I feel like the reason FH hurts shoulders and elbow is because a) their form is bad or b) they should disc down. You could throw a comet or leopard and just underthrow it. A turnover doesn't replace a forehand shot. They end the same way but they're not the same shot.
@EricJenkinsDiscGolf12 күн бұрын
My shoulder hurts from years of playing disc golf. Will schusterick hurt his from years of disc golf and throwing forehands. He's had to learn to putt left handed because of it. This might not replace a forehand one for one but it will allow me to play for many years to come. There have been countless pros injured from throwing forehand so I'd rather stick to throwing rollers and Anhyzers 🤘 Thanks for commenting, I get what you are saying but this is my reasoning to why I throw these shots.
@worc218712 күн бұрын
Totally get it. I'm a huge baseball fan and the same thing is happening in baseball. I think as you try to push distance and velocity with a forehand you are more at risk of injuring yourself. The same has been true of pitching in baseball. A problem exacerbated in disc golf because there's so many guys out there throwing OS forehands. For many, starting with understables now, and learning a good turnover BH, will definitely help prevent a lot of injuries. Sorry if I sounded overly critical. The roller tutorial is something I'm going to take to the field with me.
@EricJenkinsDiscGolf12 күн бұрын

Definitely not a replacement but I used to play lefty 4 hand and hurt my left shoulder with over use of throwing and with work. So I switched to righty back hand and use the lefty 4hand for touchy shots now. I don’t have a righty 4 hand so turnover is a necessity to me
@EricJenkinsDiscGolf5 күн бұрын
@BirdManAdventures I played left handed for a few months while my right arm was hurt. If I could get it 70 percent it would be a forehand replacement for me for sure. I've had pretty decent luck with the shots in this video though too.
