Great explanation! What I do not understand is the transistor configuration. From my perspective the npn transistor is reverse connected. Emitter shall be towards ground. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Hello, I know that a lot of time has passed, but the content you have prepared is still very useful. Thank you ! I wonder why BJT's emitter is connected to -5v? In this case it sounds like the BJT will always be transmitting? It seems like it would be more appropriate if we connected it to ground potential instead of -5v. I probably didn't fully understand the principle of its operation. Can you help me with some keywords for a deep research?

Very informative. I've just asked an ebay seller to refund me as what I purchased is obviously the fake one. Pity I never saw this video first.

Hey! How are you holding up? I think one of the best uses for this one would be combining it with the milliohm meter and adding high impedance front end.

Hello, looks like youve mixed up internals, while reassembling. Fake unit is not able to calibrate. Theres no calibration option at all. My is exactly the same as your fake one, witnout "Skyarc" logo. Fortunately voltage reading difference is -0,1V so it stops charging LiPo at 4,1V not overcharged it so no damge. Thanks for your coprehensive video. I was truly disapointed to know, i ve bought fake.

7 years later, I feel like I'm late to the party. Thank you for this excellent series! I'm learning so much. I have a question on the UF5408 diode place in parallel with the 0.1 ohm sense resistor. According to a datasheet I found, this diode is an ultrafast RECOVERY rectifier diode and there are specs for the reverse recover time in nanoseconds. However, in this project, it's the forward voltage that counts when there is an over-voltage. So wouldn't a standard fast-switching diode be more appropriate? What about common diodes like 1N4007? Can those be used or are they not fast enough?

Any chance of buying one of these as a parts kit? I can do all the soldering and assembly. OSHPark requires a minimum order of 3 PCB boards. An MK2 kit (Video #44) would be of interest as well. Thank you. I really enjoyed the project.

Very nice video. More than adequate for the hobbyist. For more serious applications, reference aging, drift, and temperature/humidity effects need to be considered. Also, you need to have friends with calibration equipment to really get those ppms :) Thanks for taking the time to post this video.

This project is worth doing in my opinion. I still have an old signal generator audio and am bands that cost me over £200 back in 70’s so for £15-20 this is well worth it I think! Fraser

Nice project BUT... a huge BUT. Almost all of the parts there used. The Opamps the reference and so on. Are VERY hard to get to. Especially this CADDOCK 1778-C681 is almost impossible to get and it is super expensive. A great project and well designed. But it is almost impossible to build it for a normal price as the parts are too difficult to get.

A well paced lecture on how a project is developed: from the start block diagrams and their relationships, Then a purposed schematic to iron out some obvious kinks and electrical issues, to a breadboard to test the theories calculated prior, make adjustments or changes to anything outside desired specifications, fine tune, final testing, prototype and test, all with jelly bean parts...marvelous. Spot on.😊

You mentioned the smaller power supply, but one thing you didn't mention is that it also has a lower power rating. It you try to charge at the full 80 watts the power supply will eventually cook .

I put a heat sink on the bottom side of the PCB where the device transfers the heat. Some ppl adhere it to the top of the chip which makes no sense to me.
