ENGLISH TRANSLATION Nanase Aikawa: "Today, we visited the Gassan school of swordsmiths, which has a rich history. Let's ask directly, what makes Gassan not just a place but a legendary name in swordsmithing?" Gassan Sadatoshi: "Gassan represents a dream-like lineage rich in history, where each practitioner has unique skills handed down through generations. This tradition has continued for about 800 years, beginning in Europe where foundational skills were honed." NA: "How has this tradition impacted cultural and royal events in Japan?" GS: "Since the late Edo period in Osaka, our craft became notably important, leading to the emergence of human national treasures post-Meiji era. Our swordsmiths have also been involved in creating sacred treasures for places like Ise Shrine, significantly contributing to imperial events." NA: "With such historical significance, how have you faced the challenges, especially post-war?" GS: "The post-war era was incredibly difficult. Many craftsmen were forced to reconsider their paths-some due to business closure or the need for a career change. But despite these challenges, we managed to persevere. Our dedication to preserving this art form has played a crucial role." NA: "What do you attribute this perseverance to?" GS: "Our commitment goes beyond just keeping a tradition alive; it's about honoring a legacy that connects us to something greater than ourselves. The belief that every sword we forge carries a piece of our spirit and a touch of the divine is what drives us." NA: "Can you elaborate on the spiritual and symbolic aspects of the swords?" GS: "Certainly. Each sword we create is not just a weapon; it's a sacred object endowed with protective powers. This belief in the sword's divinity dates back to ancient times and is central to our craft. The story of Susano-o and the Kusanagi sword, for example, highlights these sacred qualities." NA: "It seems like the allure of Gassan swords isn't just about craftsmanship." GS: "Absolutely. The allure isn’t merely about the aesthetic or the craftsmanship; it’s about the soul of the sword. People around the world are drawn to these blades because they sense the divine essence we imbue in each piece." NA: "This deep connection must resonate globally." GS: "Indeed, the beauty and the spiritual belief that each blade is inhabited by divine spirits captivate people worldwide. This belief in the divine presence in all things is a reflection of the Japanese soul itself."

He needs to let her get a word in sideways. He talks way too much. 😂📢
