    Did you have to switch the hub or the wheel to fit that new cassette?

  • @Lab7Projects
    @Lab7Projects15 күн бұрын

    no, you can use nx cassette on most retro wheels/hub, from GX and up is when you need to use the xd hub.

    so you did not need to do 'cold set' to wide from 126mm to 130mm on rear?

  • @Lab7Projects
    @Lab7Projects2 ай бұрын

    I didn't need to cold set as it was already on 130mm, however I had many old bikes that was 126mm and it's fine to spread them to fit 130mm wheels in, it's only 2mm each side. The only time I had to cold set was an old track frame which was 120mm.

    how many sheets of paper can you fit in that clearance :) ? what tire width did you use?

  • @Lab7Projects
    @Lab7Projects5 ай бұрын

    It had Panaracer GravelKing 700x32 tires on it when I took the video. They worked fine with about 2mm clearance on each side of the chainstay. However, after a few rides on some less than perfect roads, I later changed to Pirelli P Zero 700x28 tubeless tires. The 32mm width was just too close for comfort, with stones continually flicking onto the frame. Since it's a frame I don't want any damage on yet, I made the switch.

    It depends on your quill stem really, either 25.4 or 26mm, or you can do what I did in the other video kzread.info/dash/bejne/o52NlayaqNqaqdo.html converting it to a threadless stem then you get a lot more handlebar options.

    Nice finished bike. I liked the way you did not make the rear brake housing too long and it just arches down into the rear brake. The front head tube cable housing protectors to save your paint is what I use as well. Did not see you put on a clear chain stay protector which I would recommend to save your paint there as well. Now all you need is a Celeste Silca pump with a Chrome Campy head for under the top tube since the frame has a pump peg. I have two similar similar older steel framed bikes (Cinelli and Custom Kvale) that that have mint Dura Ace 7400 eight speed and Dura Ace 7800 ten speed groupos. I committed sacrilege by swapping out the Cinelli steel fork and Dura Ace 1" threaded headset and replaced them with a threadless Chris King headset and a Time 1" Featherlight threadless Carbon fork I took off a Litespeed Vortex Titanium frame that cracked bad after many miles. The Cinelli has a beautiful pair of Mavic Red Rimed Helium pre-built wheels while the Kvale has hand built wheels on Dura Ace hubs. I am using a newer bottom bracket on the ten speed setup and a Phil Wood sealed tapered cartridge on the tapered eight speed cranks. They both have top line Cinelli bar and stems all though I upgraded to slightly wider bars than were popular back then and put Speedplay Zero pedals on them. I have numerous newer bikes but still like to take the older ones out every now and then as I put many miles on them in their day......

  • @Lab7Projects
    @Lab7Projects8 ай бұрын

    Cheers! It sounds like you have some really nice bikes. I just love vintage steel frames, steel is real. I've also considered committing sacrilege by swapping out the fork and replacing it with a Columbus minimal 1-inch fork. I'm just not sure how the cockpit will look with the 1-inch to 1 1/8 shim and how safe it's going to be, I might try that later on.

    turn out real good bro i am learning alot from u xd btw im restoring a frame with dent im thinking powdercoating it but it has some dent do u think steel epoxy will not pop/react on heat process on powder coating? its heat resist but i dunno yet any thoughts?

  • @Lab7Projects
    @Lab7Projects8 ай бұрын

    Cheers, with the fillers you need to check the highest temperature it can hold before shifting forms, most powder coat needs 400+ degrees Fahrenheit to cure, to fill small holes you also need to apply the powder coat after the steel is heat up so it sticks better. I doubt any epoxy can withstand that kind of heat. If you have dents why don't you paint it instead? that way you can use normal filler. If you have to go with powder coating then your best bet is to braze on more material to fill the dent then sand back down. It's quite costly if you don't have the tools. BTW I am working on the final part of this build series, it will be out this Friday night, stay tuned.

    You sanded back all around that headset lug to expose that shoreline. Is there chrome under that paint? I’m just hoping you sealed it afterwards to stop water getting under that powder coating otherwise your rust will start there for sure. Looking forward to the rest of your build, I’m a big classic steel Bianchi fan 👌🏼I’d suggest next time to rather go for paint with a 2K clear coat, it will give you a way better finish to your project 👌🏼

  • @Lab7Projects
    @Lab7Projects9 ай бұрын

    Thanks for the feedback. They weren't chromed underneath. I had the same concern initially when I did that on another frame, but five years on, and still no rust on that one. I just rub the lug's shoreline with a bit of Autosol every 6-8 months or so. I didn't have much luck with 2K clear in the past; it just never bonded with the basecoat. I tried different types of paint, but none of them last as long as the powder coats. Whenever there's one rock chip on the 2K clear, I can start peeling the clear coat off around the chip edges. On the other hand, with powder, I hardly get any damages from group rides.
