Planet of Spiders is one of my least favourite serials not because it is particularly bad, but because it's just so damn sad. Jon's bitter pill of leaving bleeds into the performance, & because Jon is such an emotional person, his portrayal carries much despondency throughout. I rarely get it out.

It's a shame some argument with Tom Baker kept his Doctor sidelined in a time lop. This should have been "The 4 doctors with guest appearance by a fifth."

Guess Tegan didn't try to contact Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart to tell him that she had enough of travelling with the Doctor after she saw good people getting killed in this adventure against the Daleks. He would've understood.

The teleport was in the trailer WTTW showed prior to the airing and on first hearing the line I thought The Doctor said, "Sorry, mustache." which naturally made no sense.

It's probably Colin Baker's best story(next to "Revelation of the Daleks"). The commentary on reality TV and also TV violence is even more relevant today. It got criticised, but I think very unfairly - and the critics were missing the point. It also introduced the character of Sil. Philip Martin did a great job - it's just a shame that he only got to write one more Dr. Who story.

As a child of 1969 I got Pertwee and Baker; I'll always consider Baker MY doctor but I do have huge affection for Pertwee, especially as I loved Worzel Gummidge 😊
