    Thank you so much for this. Do you have exercises for infants? My 9 month old has had excessive drooling since 2 months old. We have to swap out a new bib every half hour, and I’m getting concerned.

    Great idea to use the "food/mouth" idea... love it! I also position the jacket on their lap or a table so that the top of the jacket is closest to their body and the bottom, where the joining mechanism piece is further away but still within reaching distance. This still allows it to be easier since they aren't wearing the jacket, but it also allows them to see the same visual orientation and to have the same hand placement that they would if they were wearing it. Parents can also look at a thrift store for a kid's jacket or raincoat that has a very large zipper (I have a kid's life jacket with a huge zipper!) which will be easier to handle for kids with fine motor difficulties!

    Thank you for sharing, Dana. This activity is amazing! Do you still have the slides please? The link in the description box doesn't work for me. I tried several times by directly clicking and copy paste it, but it says that the file doesn't exist. Could you please help update the link? Many thanks.

    I'm 23 and autistic. I've been walking on my toes my whole life & didn't really notice it when I was very young. As I grew it didn't change anything at the time when running it made me feel like I ran faster. When watching this video, I at first thought I was the only one who walks like this I didn't know there were people out there who walks similar to me. I've never met another toe walker but it's good to hear. Glad I got to watch this video & learn more about it. Though sometimes being out in public can be tough especially nowadays. But still like to learn more about it.

    My daughter has been going to OT sessions but still seems quite opposing to any idea the OT suggests us to review or practice during the week. I’m interested to send her your a sensory integration practice in our area but can’t find one. Would there be other search terms that I should use, or would you have any comments?

    Thank you so much for creating this video on distinguishing between SPD and ADHD diagnosis. Could SPD cause a child to score low on test look into a child’s attention and cognitive abilities and therefore cause the provider err on their final diagnosis? Or, could we say scoring low on such tests definitely is an indication of ADHD being present? Thanks again!!

    Great ideas! What are your suggestions for little boys who don't care about following the rules of the games? For instance, they would keep running for red light/green light and not go back to the start, they won't stop dancing for freeze dance, or don't care if they move to every instruction for Simon Says. Thanks for any advice you have. I teach a group of 20-30 kids and have a handful of boys that exhibit very little impulse control!

    Hi, won’t they associate housework with money when they’re older?

  • @TheOTGuide
    @TheOTGuide2 ай бұрын

    Hi! That's a great question. I think it's important to balance the allowance system so that kids understand the difference between responsibilities and rewards. One thing you could do is distinguish between chores and responsibilities - so explain to your kids that some tasks are simply part of being a family member (like cleaning their room or setting the table) and aren't tied to money. The allowance can be for additional tasks that go beyond their regular responsibilities. You could also use non-monetary rewards, such as extra screen time, a special outing, or choosing a family activity, rather than money for when they complete their chores. Thank you so much for watching! -Dana

    Thanks for sharing your expertise! I like the strategy #1 schedule, it just lays out a high level picture for the kids. It just helps my 9 year olds navigate the day. When it comes to no schedule days, they pick their own activities and when it’s time for transition, they have a hard time doing it. This video gave me an idea to create a schedule for such days. What is the right age to use pencil grip?

  • @TheOTGuide
    @TheOTGuide2 ай бұрын

    Hey there! Thank you so much for watching and visiting my channel! There is no "right age" per se, but I always recommend trying different pencil grips if your youngster isn't having success without one. Before you have them use a grip, make sure to explicitly teach them to hold a pencil, and let them practice without one for a while. I made a video on how to teach kids to hold a pencil a while back, here it is- kzread.info/dash/bejne/l6Vlys6bmdfdddY.html

    As an autistic adult, I will say: Just don't! I wish I was diagnosed in childhood, so I wouldn't listen to people telling me to make eye contact while talking. This plus various other things people told me to do, to - as I now know - pretend to be allistic is harmful and disrespectful of our disability. Eye contact makes me unable to focus on what people are telling me, feels way to intimate and drains my energy in no time!

  • @TheOTGuide
    @TheOTGuide2 ай бұрын

    It sounds like you've had a challenging experience, and I'm sorry to hear that. Your perspective as an autistic adult is incredibly valuable and sheds light on the importance of understanding and respecting individual differences in communication and sensory processing. It's essential for society to move towards accepting and accommodating these differences rather than expecting everyone to conform to a narrow set of norms. Your voice is powerful in advocating for greater understanding and acceptance of autism. Thank you for sharing your experience. -Dana
