There is a movie called "Stay Alive' where - when playing a video game - the beginning of it requires the players to cite a incantation. Unbeknownst to them - it starts the ball rolling of mysterious deaths of some of the players.

Information I remember from reading Split Image, a biography of Anthony Perkins, is that Perkins himself pushed away his own queerness and married a woman, "Berry" Berenson, and had children (Elvis Perkins and actor, writer, director Osgood Perkins), though Anthony still had flings with men. A side note I found gives fodder for Anthony Perkins's casting is that he was raised by a lesbian mother who was overbearing.

I appreciate the review of Incantation for the reasons that first, like Karen I am also Taiwanese and this review made me felt closer to you guys and second Incantation was a horror film that has really chilled me to the core in recent years.

Paused the pod and watched Exhuma before yall started talking about it and it was fucking great. Felt like 2 different movies combined but had lots of details that connected it all together nicely. Also about the grandfathers anger towards his descendants, I took it as him suffering the energy of what he was buried on top of for so long & directed it at his family for having buried him there and left it for so long. There was a line where someone says "all that's left is resentment" about why he's mad

Exhuma sounds great. The mention of a snake with a woman's face reminds me of a Nure-Onna. A type of malicious yokai that can prey on infants but also use infants as a way of killing adults as well.

I visited the Oregon Vortex when I was a teenager! It's wild they totally changed the story about it because when I went they told the scientific story, which is the fact that it's a spot where the x and y axes cross, causing visual anomalies! Sounds like they wanted to make it more spooky sounding for marketing hahaha. But it's really actually happening and it's science!

The Oregon Vortex was built in the 30s, a period of time when people were desperate for extra cash. Mystery spots started popping up all throughout the country, with "gravity anomoly" type optical illusions thrilling attendees. The house was likely built where it is now, in a careful manner, so that tour guides could lead the group through a specific path for maximum optical illusion. The Boulets account of the kids lining up tallest to shortest before switching positions and all appearing the same height is a classic Ames room. There are lots of demo videos on youtube. In short, these rooms take advantage of careful architectural angles to make subjects appear larger or smaller. The trick is that you can only perceive this correctly from specific vantage points. I imagine the tour guides didn't want video being taken because cameras tend to "flatten" a scene and can pick up on these warped dimensions easier than our eyes can. If you were Remember, the human brain is constantly reprocessing visual input to fit the narrative that it anticipates.

Hello fiends. If ya'll would like a shark obsessed biologist, & avid horror fan to have a super nerdy conversation/interview with to discuss the science (good and bad/so the movie can happen) and horror of Under Paris, I'd be glad to chat with you. As a graduate student I worked on a field study in the Florida Keys studying the reproductive behavior and conservation genetics of nurse sharks. We can chat about cooperative mating strategies (including males having wing-men), and paternity testing (think Maury Povitch for sharks).
